Congratulations to 2nd grade teacher Yvonne Hempfling Edwards of Goodridge Elementary school.  Tonight you get to meet a teacher who has taught four generations of students; Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z, and now Gen Alpha.

IV.B. 2025 Harry J Cowherd Center for Excellence Award - Jalen Clark, Family Resource Center Coordinator at RA Jones Middle School
Rationale

Jones Middle School FRYSC Coordinator Jalen Clark has won the 2025 Harry J. Cowherd Award for Center Excellence! The Cowherd award is the FRYSC Division’s most prestigious award honoring a center which excels in the crucial role of serving kids and families.  Named after the late Harry J. Cowherd who was a former secretary of the Cabinet for Human Resources, Cowherd was a staunch advocate for the Family Resource and Youth Service Centers’ concept. Mr. Clark was recognized and celebrated last week in Lexington.

IV.C. Continuing Series on Career and Technical Education in Boone County Schools

Tonight’s focus is on Family Consumer Science. FCS teaches valuable life skills that promote health, well-being and informed decision-making, all lessons that have a ripple effect from the student to the family and the community. 

IV.D. Boone County School reaches Gold PBIS status
Rationale

Congratulations to Longbranch Elementary for receiving the Gold recognition for it’s high-quality and faithful implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. (PBIS) is an evidence-based framework for improving school climate and student behavior. The gold award signifies that a school has achieved a high level of success in creating clear expectations, teaching and practicing positive behaviors, using a variety of strategies to support students.

IV.E. Conner Middle School Makes Top Rankings for 2026
Rationale

Quick congratulations to Conner Middle School!  According to U.S. News & World Report, Conner Middle ranks in the top 10 of Kentucky’s best Middle Schools. For background, the ranking is based on students’ proficiency in math and reading and incorporates test results in the context of socioeconomic backgrounds.

IV.F. Transportation Employee, Marsha Kelly, Recognized by Kentucky Parks and Recreation
Rationale

Congratulations to Marsha Kelly of the Boone County Schools Transportation Department.  She was recognized yesterday with a Special Citation Award through the Kentucky Recreation and Parks Society. The Special Citation Award recognizes outstanding efforts, collaborations, or unique enhancements to the community.

Every year Marsha organizes transportation and drivers for summer field trip transport for the Boone County Parks programs held at several Boone County Schools.
