Tara Rakesh 2026-2027 Student School Board Representative
Tara Rakesh from Cooper High School was elected by her peers as the Student School Board Representative for the new 2026-2027 school year. Miss Rakesh will be the 25th student representative elected to the Boone County School Board by student delegates of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC). The SSAC was established as a venue for authentic student voice in 2002. The Student Board Representative is a non-voting member of the Board of Education representing all students. Miss Rakesh begins presiding over the SSAC this month. Boone County Judge JR Schrand will issue the Proclamation.

Break The Mold Recipient Sandy Nash
Congratulations to Ballyshannon Middle School Cafeteria Manager Sandy Nash. She is breaking the mold in service of feeding students. Her passion is the overall wellbeing of students. She sees her work as a tangible, loving act of her service.

2026 Kentucky Jump$tart Financial Literacy Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Cooper High School Teacher Travis Rasso who has been named the 2026 Kentucky Jump$tart Teacher of the Year. Travis is making a lasting impact through innovative financial literacy education that empowers students to make smart financial decisions for their futures.

Career & Technical Education Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Ryle High School Teacher Susan Dews who has been named Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year in Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher. Ms. Dews was featured in a district Career and Technical Education video that we aired here at the school board meeting last school year.

Honoring 911 with a Memorial Stair Climb
Tomorrow on the 25th anniversary of 911 many of our schools will hold events or teach subjects in remembrance. At Ballyshannon Middle School tomorrow, we have been invited to be a part of the Memorial Stair Climb, an activity created by history teacher Kevin Dailey. Mr. Dailey is here to explain this annual event at Ballyshannon.
