We are excited to share some incredible news about the Elizabethtown High School Senior Beta Club’s recent success at the National Beta Convention held June 22–26 in Orlando, Florida.

Our students competed among more than 15,000 Beta members from across the country—and this year, they made history. The Elizabethtown Senior Beta Club set a new school record with 14 national placements, showcasing not only academic excellence but also creativity, collaboration, and leadership.

Here are our national results:

  • 1st Place, Language Arts (9th Grade): Grace Zheng – National Champion
  • 1st Place, Math (9th Grade): Kelsey Wayne – National Champion
  • 2nd Place, Science (9th Grade): Gabriella Frank
  • 2nd Place, Biomedical Science (12th Grade): Maddie Hill
  • 3rd Place, Psychology (9th Grade): Emma Rains
  • 3rd Place, Psychology (12th Grade): Michelle Zheng
  • 3rd Place, Biology (9th Grade): Jocelyn Armstrong
  • 5th Place Math (11th Grade): Kevin Tse

We are incredibly proud of the dedication and teamwork demonstrated by our students throughout the year and at the national level. Their achievements are a testament to the hard work of our club members, sponsors, and the strong support from our district and community.

Mr. Shawn Sizemore introduced a couple of the students who competed and won at the National Beta Convention. Mr. Sizemore noted that many students were at various activities and sports this evening. Mr. Sizemore noted that after 8 years, this was his last year with the EHS Beta Club. Mr. Mullins thanked Shawn for his service on behalf of the Board.

V.N. Approve Emergency Certifications

Mrs. Derisa Hindle is requesting approval for an Emergency Teaching Certification for a Middle School Science Teacher and a Reading/Math Interventionist and two Elementary Teachers. Postings to attract and employ teachers in these positions were placed on the Kentucky Employment Placement Service (KEPS) and on the district's application software (TalentEd), and on vacancy announcements throughout the district. The best candidate for the middle school science position is an applicant who served as a long-term substitute in middle Science last year and is seeking admission into a Masters' of Art in Teaching program in this content area. The best candidate for the Reading/Math Interventionist is an applicant who served in this role during the past school year and has positive relationships with the students and staff. He is currently working to complete his certification. The one candidate for the Elementary Teacher position has served in this role during the past two years and just completed his masters' degree but is awaiting exam results for his full certification. The other candidate has served in this role during the past two years and just completed her masters' degree but is awaiting exam results for her full certification

V.O. Approve Mission/Vision for Elizabethtown Independent Schools

A survey of 2 potential mission statements and 3 potential vision statements was sent to all staff in June. The same survey was sent to the community (via social media) in July. The results are attached. Based on this feedback, we would like to submit the attached mission/vision statement for approval.

Mr. Dan Lockwood and Ms. Wesley Hatfield presented to the Board about Teacher Clarity for the 2025-2026 school year. 

Mr. Lockwood and Ms. Hatfield offered to answer questions from the Board. Ms. Iman asked about the effect size percentages that were spoke about early in the presentation. Mr. Lockwood said that was a measure of the impact they could have. Ms. Iman asked where we are at currently and where do we hope to get. Mr. Lockwood said he will look into it and follow up with her. 


IX. Superintendent's Comments

Mr. Mullins said it's been a good start to the school year. Mr. Mullins thanked all the principals and the leadership team to help get the buildings and students ready for the first day, especially Hope Janes and Heather Goodman for their leadership. He wants to thank Alpha and Omega for their work to clean the buildings to get ready for the first day. He wants to thank Chuck Jones for his work on Social Media. He wants to thank Travis Gay and Kim Jones for stepping up in the Transportation Department. He wants to thank Derisa Hindle for their work in Human Resources. He wants to thank his secretary, Nora Gocking for her help. He wants to thank Dr. Fletcher for coming to speak to staff on Opening Day. He also wants to thank Cain Alvey, Director of Special Programs for helping to make the beginning of the school year a success. He wants to also thank Dan Lockwood and Wesley Hatfield for their instructional leadership to start the year.
