5.d.3. CO#22, OMES Construction Project - Mullion
Bret Highley
Rationale

Change Order #22 is for $1,186.80 to add a removable mullion at door 001.1 at the gym entrance in order to properly lock the door. This changes the construction contingency balance from $634,384.01 to $633,135.50 for CO# 22 for $1,186.80 and $61.71 for architect fees.

Attachments
5.d.4. CO#23, OMES Construction Project - Additional Wall Construction
Bret Highley
Rationale

Change Order #23 is for $3,444.25 for additional wall construction to obscure geothermal piping that could not be routed inside the provided chase due to space limitations. These pipes are exposed in a highly visible area. This changes the Construction Contingency balance from $633,135.50 to $629,512.15, after $3,444.25 and $179.10 for architect fees.

Attachments
5.d.5. CO#24, OMES Construction Project - Water Booster Pump
Bret Highley
Rationale

Change Order #24 is for $45,385.44 (and $2,360.04 for architect fees), to add a domestic water booster pump to the plumbing system at the school. During the course of construction, the mechanical/plumbing contractor noted a water pressure concern. Flow tests were conducted two times during the design phase and the pressure was adequate to address design loads. Due to the ongoing development in the area of the water tower serving the school, it is likely the water pressure will be an on-going issue until the infrastructure improvements are addressed by the City of Mt. Washington. This changes the Construction Contingency fund balance from $629,512.15 to $581,766.67.

Attachments
5.f.4. Google Workspace for Education Plus
Kevin Fugate
Rationale

A few years ago the district signed an introductory agreement with Amplified IT/CDWG for Google Workspace for Education Plus at the low cost of $18,000 per year. Now that this agreement has expired, another agreement is necessary with the reseller to retain certain benefits of having this level of Google Education. The cost has increased significantly. The district could pay roughly $64,000 per year or enter an agreement with Amplified to get this level at $54,081.25 per year (about $5 per student per year). If the district chooses a reduced version of this software, it risks losing the ability to have unlimited storage for everyone, advanced security and analytic tools, enhanced Google Classroom capabilities, and the ability to use investigative tools when there is an open records request, just to name a few of the very valuable tools utilized often. Requested is approval of this 3-year agreement to reduce the cost to continue the standard of operation with Google Workspace for Education Plus.

Brandy Howard
Rationale

As of July 25, 2022, the Superintendent will oversee all curriculum, textbooks, instructional materials, and student support services per changes in Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS 160.345). The curriculum in each school shall be designed to achieve student capacities established by KRS 158.645 and the school goals established by KRS 158.6451. The curriculum shall comply with all applicable state and federal statutes and regulations. In an y school administered under the provisions of KRS 160.345, the Superintendent shall determine which curriculum, textbooks, instructional materials, and student support services shall be provided in the school after consulting with the Board, the Principal, and the school council and after a reasonable public review and response period for all stakeholders. A spreadsheet is provided with that information for the request submitted by Mt. Washington Middle School and North Bullitt High School for approval of curriculum and/or instructional resources.

6. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Rationale

6.a. 2nd Reading - Policies 03.11 & 03.21 - Hiring
Althea Hurt
Rationale

Requested is a policy revision to Hiring Policy 03.11 (Certified) and 03.21 (Classified). The request is to delete the words “and in the Central Office” and “shall refer interested persons to the Central Office job register for additional information” from under the Vacancies Posted subheading.  This update is necessary to reflect the current, updated process for posting vacancies for the district. Vacancies for both certified and classified positions are posted and advertised electronically through the TalentEd Recruit and Hire system.  This system is available for the public to access and view 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Proposed revision: Under procedures developed by the Superintendent, a listing of all District job openings shall be posted online for public viewing. Posting of vacancies may be made with other agencies, as appropriate.

6.b. Proposed 2023-2024 School Calendar
Steve Smallwood
Rationale

In order to meet state requirements and accommodate the recommendations from the survey results, the Committee had a tight window to work with in developing this school calendar. With Christmas falling on a Monday, it made it tough to develop a traditional two-week Christmas Break and still get out of school by May 17th. The goal is to have the high school graduations the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend. It was also the goal not to extend the school year beyond Memorial Day Weekend into June, and that was a big obstacle as well.

As per KRS 158.070 (2)(b)(c)(d), the School Calendar Committee, after seeking feedback from school district employees, parents, and community members, presents a school calendar option to the Board. The calendar option complies with state laws and regulations and considers the economic impact of the school calendar on the community and state.

7. NEW BUSINESS
Rationale

7.a. 2022-2023 Nutrition & Physical Activity Report and AHG Report / Public Hearing
Todd Crumbacker
Rationale

In December 2016, Bullitt County Public Schools partnered with The Alliance for a Healthier Generation (AHG) as part of a Wellness Initiative to help create and sustain healthier school environments. In addition, the AHG is using an additional index called the RISE Index to help measure the effectiveness of creating such environments. The RISE Index is the Resilience in School Environments (RISE) Initiative, which empowers schools to create safe and supportive learning environments by developing policies and practices that improve the social-emotional health of all students and staff. With the 2022-23 school year, the AHG generated another assessment called The Thriving Schools Integrated Assessment which is an evidence-based self-assessment tool to support districts and schools in identifying strengths and opportunities for improvement regarding policies and practices that promote student achievement and the well-being of students, staff, and teachers. A key benefit in this collaboration is the opportunity to use the Alliance's assessment tools as an addition to the Nutrition and Physical Activity Report in the evaluation and recommendations related to KRS 158.856 and to the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010.

Presented are the preliminary reports from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation for the 2022-2023 Nutrition & Physical Activity Report. This report is for review and must be posted for public comment.
