Recognition of Five JCPS Schools that Earned National Magnet School Certification by Magnet Schools of America
Five JCPS schools recently earned National Magnet School Certification by Magnet Schools of America (MSA).
Achieving national certification requires a full year of rigorous self-evaluation, evidence collection, and review against national standards of educational excellence, diversity, and innovative instruction.
Please join us in recognizing the staff and students from:
-
Dr. Grace M. James Academy of Excellence
-
duPont Manual High School

Greathouse/Shryock Traditional Elementary School
-
Meyzeek Middle School MST
-
Western High School, The STEM Magnet

Recognition of Four Academy @ Shawnee Aviation Pathway Students who Recently Completed Solo Flights
Four senior students from the Academy @ Shawnee’s Aviation Pathway achieved a monumental milestone in their career and technical education: completing their first solo flight. This accomplishment represents the highest number of district students to complete solo flights in a single school year in more than 15 years.
To earn the privilege of flying solo, these students completed a rigorous series of requirements. Each passed a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) medical examination, cleared the FAA written ground school exam, and logged more than 20 hours of hands-on flight training under the supervision of a certified flight instructor. Completing a solo flight demonstrates exceptional technical knowledge, skill, and decision-making confidence as these students work toward their Private Pilot Certificates.
Congratulations to:
