V. RECOGNITION OF GUESTS AND OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
V.A. Students of the Month
Rationale

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL                      LUKE MOORE

The EHS student of the month for April is Luke Moore. Luke, a senior, has a heart of gold and a strong

passion to help others. While at EHS, Luke has been a member of the Earth Club where he has helped

Greenspace with trail cleanup and a member of the Young Democrats Club where he helped put

together Easter baskets for Silverleaf and also helped at a bake sale to raise awareness for wage

inequality. During Luke’s junior year, he was a tutor at the TK Stone after school Homework Help

program and this year, Luke is a 3rd grade assistant at Panther Place and also works in Mr. Grossman’s

PLTW classes for Principles of Teaching (2 hours during the school day).

Here are some comments from his teachers:

Mrs. Walters (Librarian who supervises Luke’s WKU online courses): Luke Moore is a very conscientious

student. He is always very respectful of anyone, student or faculty, that he is interacting with. He is just

an all around pleasant young man and I know he will do well in his next endeavor in college.

Mr. Grossman (POT Teacher): It has been a pleasure having Luke in my 2nd-period class throughout this

year. He's become an invaluable resource for my students and me during class. At the beginning of the

year, Luke made a special effort to connect with the students in the class and that allowed him to be a

go-to person for several of my students who needed some extra support or encouragement.

Kathy Francis (Panther Place Program Director): Luke has been working at Panther Place as a teacher’s

assistant in the third grade classroom during the 2017-2018 school year. He has a great work ethic and

has been very reliable. He is engaged with students every minute that he is at Panther Place and holds

each one to a high standard. Mrs. Compton, our third grade teacher had the following to say about

Luke, “Luke is my assistant at Panther Place. He is so helpful to me in the classroom helping with

homework and activities. I enjoy having him in my classroom. He is a excellent role model for the

students. He has a good attitude about life. He is very respectful and well-mannered. He teaches

students to have those same characteristics. Whatever his goal is in life, he will be very successful.”

Mrs. Brangers (Principles of Teaching): I have had the pleasure of having Luke for four years, and he has

taken virtually every class in the Family and Consumer Science department - including being my Teacher

Aid this year. I simply cannot tell you how great this young man is. He is smart and organized and

always submits exemplary work. He has also accepted every challenge I have thrown at him with

courage and a strong work ethic - like when he worked with Preschool and Kindergarten students every

day and now working with 8th grade Science students (even though he wasn't sure if Science was his

favorite subject).

The traits that stand out to me the most about Luke; however, are his kindness, open-mindedness, and

ability to really listen to others. He truly seems interested in the lives of the people around him and has

an innate compassion that will take him far with his students someday, if he continues his current path

of teaching. All this, and did I mention he can speak sign language fluently? This young man, who

shows our young panthers a great role model every day, has become a role model to me as well.

EHS is proud to recognize Luke Moore as the April Student of the Month.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL     BRIANA LEWIS

Briana is an 8th grader at TKS with straight A’s.  From Brianna’s perspective anything below an A is unacceptable so she works hard to ensure that she maintains her high standards.  She doesn’t have a favorite class because all of them are her favorite.  In her spare time she enjoys reading and writing poetry.  Another hobby is to re-read her textbooks and make additional notes from them.  She enjoys walking, looking at trees, and watching the change of seasons.  Her favorite food is a combination of green beans and spaghetti. She values the time she spends with her friends and always enjoys listening to them and giving advice.

Mrs. Perry had this to say:

Briana is a very intelligent and carrying young lady.  She is a quick learner and goes above what is required of her in her assignments.  She brought candy and gifts for everyone in our Social Studies class for Halloween.  She will do well in all her future endeavors.

Kim Evans

Briana is an exceptional young lady and student.  She plays trumpet and is a current member of the TKS Symphonic Band.  As her band director, I’ve been impressed by her diligence and work ethic.  She always maintains a refreshingly positive attitude and  is a true joy to work with.  I’m very much looking forward to watching Briana continue to improve and grow as a musician and student.

Brianna’s future plans include maintaining a 4.0 GPA and become valedictorian at EHS.  She is a interested in attending WKU and possibly going into information technology field. Brianna has a terrific future in front of her.  It is a pleasure to recognize Brianna Lewis as our April 2018 TKS student of the month.

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS                 NATE WHITMER

Nate the Great Whitmer

By: Mrs. Hepner’s Class

Have you ever been in class with someone who is responsible, a role model and friendly? Well, we have and this amazing person is Nate Whitmer. We, his classmates, are writing this article to inform you why Nate is the April student of the month for Helmwood Heights.

Responsible Nate

I bet you are wondering why we said Nate is responsible. Let us explain. He turns in his work completed and on time. If he doesn’t for some reason, he doesn’t give any excuses for it and he accepts the consequence. Nate also shows responsibility by listening to the teachers. He follows directions the first time they are told. Another way Nate shows responsibility is by being dependable.  If he is asked to do something, he does it without moaning, questioning or complaining.

The Greatest Role Model

If you are thinking Nate is only responsible, then you are wrong. He is also a wonderful role model.  One way Nate shows the trait of being a good role model is by his choices. For example, during group time he chooses to work with classmates who stay focused and on task. That way he won’t be tempted to get off task himself. Another way Nate is a role model is in the hallways. He follows hallway procedures such as no talking and staying on the blue line. When Nate follows the hallway procedures, he is being a good example for the little kids. Nate also has a lot of integrity. He does the right thing all of the time, even when adults aren’t around to see.

A Friend to All

As well as being responsible and a good role model, Nate is also friendly. He is friendly for many reasons and one of those reasons is because he invites people to play at recess. He doesn’t ever leave kids out of games, but instead he asks kids what they want to play. Another great way to show Nate is friendly is every morning when he enters the classroom, he tells the teacher and his classmates hello with a smile on his face! What a great way to start the day! The best way Nate shows his friendly trait is by using his manners. He never talks back to anybody.  At lunch, he cleans up his mess, and others, and he always says please and thank you to people.

Now there should be no confusion about why Nate is the April student of the month for Helmwood. He is responsible, a great role model and very friendly to all. Congratulations to our classmate, Nate Whitmer!

One of Nate’s other teachers Mrs. Leslie Bainbridge also wrote that Nate is a tremendous student!  Not only is he a role model for my classroom, but he encourages the other students to treat me with respect and to work hard in my class.  He never gives up no matter how hard the work can be.  When I give Nate feedback and corrections on work, he always listens graciously and tries to improve his work.  I have been working with Nate since he was in 3rd grade and his attitude towards school has always been the same.  He loves school and he works hard at everything he does.  He has a smile on his face every day and when he comes to the classroom, he brightens my day.  I’m so proud to call him my student!

Nate is the kind of student every P.E. teacher would love. Nate always gives his best effort even when the activity may not be one of his favorites. He is kind to all classmates and always offers a  helping hand to any of his classmates who may be having a bad day. Nate consistently demonstrates these great qualities and he always demonstrates great sportsmanship while winning and losing.

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY   CIARA PEELER

It is Morningside Elementary’s honor to recognize Ciara Peeler as Student of the Month for April 2017.  Ciara is in Mrs. Line’s fifth grade class, but is well-loved and admired by all of her fifth grade teachers.

Ciara is a wonderful student to highlight because of the way that she carries herself, cares for her classmates, and her work ethic in and out of the classroom. She is very deserving of this award.  She comes to school with a smile on her face ready to get to work each and every day. She always puts forth her best effort and is without a doubt polite and respectful to teachers, other adults, and fellow students.

Ciara is a very kind and helpful friend to her classmates.  She is always willing to help others succeed in the classroom by offering her guidance.  Her kind and patient demeanor helps set the tone in her class for learning.

Ciara is well rounded in many areas.  According to her Mrs. Key, Ciara is an excellent student in reading class.  She is a great reader, reading almost 2 years above grade level.  She always puts forth her best effort and is a wonderful role model for the other students.  The best qualities of Ciara are her endearing personality and impeccable manners.  She truly is a joy to have in class! According to Ms. Rowland, Ciara consistently strives to excel in social studies.  She has a positive attitude every day and is an absolute pleasure to have in class.  According to Mrs. Oldham, Ciara is kind, helpful, and dedicated to her education.  She always gives her best effort. Finally, Mrs. Line is so thankful to have Ciara in her homeroom.  She constantly strives to persevere and do her best in class.  She is an excellent writer who displays hard work and determination daily. Seeing her achieve goals and be so successful brings joy to each and every day in class.

Ciara has a kind heart, an eagerness to learn, and the persistence to always produce her best work.  We are proud to call her a Morningside Panther. It is with great pleasure to present Ciara Peeler with this award.

PANTHER ACADEMY                    ADALINE GRANT

Adaline Grant was chosen for student of the month based on her love of learning and life!  Adaline is like a ray of sunshine coming into the classroom every day!  She is always smiling and happy to see all of her teachers and her classmates.  Adaline is so smart and loves to learn.  She always asks questions and is a deep thinker.  She shares with us daily about something new she has learned.  We were talking one day in class about pineapples and whether or not they grow on trees.  The next day Adaline came in and said, “Guess what?  My daddy and I looked up pineapples on the computer.  They don’t grow on trees.  They grow on little plants like bushes on the ground!”  She was so excited to share what she had learned with the class!  She knows almost all of the alphabet letters, numbers, colors and shapes we have been learning this year in preschool!  She listens during large group and is always ready to answer any question I ask.  Adaline is pure joy and such a pleasure to have in class!  She is kind and helpful to all of the other children in the class.  Adaline likes to help her friends.  She was observed in the gym teaching another child how to pray.  She said, “You fold your hands this way and close your eyes.”  It was so sweet!  She also loves to sing.  Adaline learned a song at home about the days of the week.  She will sing the song to us whenever we ask.  Adaline is a wonderful student and will absolutely love being in kindergarten next year!

PANTHER PLACE                    CAYLEE PAYTON

Caylee Payton is Panther Place’s student of the month for April.  Caylee starting coming to Panther Place as a first grader and is now a third grader in Ms. Watts class at Helmwood Heights Elementary.  Caylee demonstrates all the Panther characters for success each and every day.

Her Panther Place teacher, Mrs. Compton, said this about Caylee: “It has been such a joy having Caylee in my class.  She has good manners and is very polite to everyone.  She is always ready to help, be it helping other students with their homework, teaching a new game or cleaning the room at the end of the day. Caylee loves to play school with her being the teacher and reading to her students.

Caylee said that her favorite subjects in school are math and reading.  She likes coming to Panther Place to see her teacher and spend time with her friends.   Getting help with her homework is important to Caylee because it allows her to spend more time with her family.  She likes activity time at Panther Place and said that she has learned a lot of new games.

When not at school or Panther Place, Caylee likes playing soccer with her brother, Damian.  She said that they want to be on the same team so; they won’t have to play against each other.  She also helps take care of her baby sister and does other chores at home.  Lastly, Caylee shared that going to church and learning about God was important to her.  These are all examples of outward displays of Caylee’s kind heart.  It is with great pleasure that I name Caylee Payton Panther Place’s April student of the month.
