Change Order # 22: Vocational School
To provide a more pleasing finish to the front corner of the Vocational School and to tie in more appropriately with existing brick, the brick in question was replaced. PCM Construction will provide all labor and materials for a cost of $600.00.

Change Order # 24: Nelson County High School
The Kentucky Building Code requires three hour fire rated doors for the multi-purpose room. With fire rated doors the glass panel was eliminated resulting in a credit of $181.00 from W R Cole & Associates.

When patching the tile floor in the main hall women’s rest room the existing tile could not be matched appropriately with any of the new tile colors. Rather than patch it was decided to overlay the entire floor. CFF can supply all ceramic tile for a cost of $873.60.

Revised Calendar
A revised school calendar must be submitted to the Kentucky Department of Education, after Board approval, before June 30. On Jan. 22, Feb.12, and Feb.13, school was canceled due to snow. Make up days were Feb.1, Feb.15, and Feb.18.

Horizons School Progress Report
The NCBE will be presented with a summary report of the Horizons program for the 2007-08 school year. This report will include the instructional program, In School Alternative to Suspension Program (ISAP), and immediate plans for the 2008-09 school year.

Middle Schools Literacy Plan
A committee of middle school teachers, principals, CRCs and district staff met during the 2007-2008 school year to develop a Middle School Literacy plan. This plan is made up of 6 components and is modeled after the primary literacy plan. The plan provides goals and guidelines for literacy instruction at the middle school level.

IN ORDER TO BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL STATUTE OF IDEA THE OLD PROCEDURES DATED DECEMBER 2006 NEED TO BE RESCINDED AND THE NEW ONES ADOPTED IN ITS PLACE DATED JUNE 2008.

COPS Grant: OKHMS/Horizons/Transportation
The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services has issued a request for applications for “COPS Secure Our Schools” grants. This program provides funding for law enforcement agencies to assist with the development of school safety resources and provide improved security at schools and on school grounds. A similar grant awarded in prior years has helped fund the placement of a sheriff’s deputy in Nelson County High School. This opportunity technology requests, including in-school video monitoring systems. The Sheriff’s Department has asked Nelson County Schools to partner with them is a request to fund an expansion of the video surveillance system in Nelson County High School, installation of systems in Old Kentucky Home Middle School and Horizons Academy, and the upgrade of video monitoring systems in several school buses. The program is a 50 percent matching grant opportunity. The total request is $50,651, of which half would be funded through Nelson County Schools .
