IV.F. Request to Surplus Chairs
Rationale

The Berea MS/HS Athletic Department would like to request permission to sell old black padded chairs used for team benches at the upcoming Berea Athletic Hall of Fame and forthcoming days thereafter. These chairs were replaced this summer and have been in use since 1999, so they are about 27 years old. Many of them are still in fairly good condition and Mr. Bingham, the athletic director, has had several requests for purchase. There are approximately 45 chairs, and Mr. Bingham would like to sell them for $20 each. If there is overwhelming interest, the last 10 to 15 chairs may go up for auction. All funds will go into the General Athletic Fund for equipment and team needs.

Requested by Mr. Bingham, Athletic Director, and recommended by Dr. Neaves, Superintendent.

V.B. Salary Schedule Revisions 2026-2027
Rationale

Background:
Item 1: The KAAC (Kentucky Association for Academic Competition) Board took steps
to sever its affiliation with the FPSI (Future Problem Solving International) organization.
As a result, FPSI has requested that KAAC and member schools end its use of all terms
associated with FPS.

Item 2: Extended School Services (ESS) – In past years each school has chosen a
building level ESS coordinator to be paid an hourly rate from the salary schedule for
coordination services. This has resulted in inconsistencies between schools and across
years relating to pay for ESS coordination. In response, the district is requesting the
addition of a defined ESS Building Coordinator Stipend to the salary schedule. The
requested stipend is for one individual, paid from state ESS funds. The building
coordinator would be chosen by the district ESS coordinator in conjunction with the
school principals, to coordinate ESS services across all three schools.

Item 3: Substitute coverage is an ongoing issue. While the district is actively recruiting
new substitutes weekly, coverage gaps still exist. In response, the district would like to
offer an equivalent payment amount to teachers who volunteer to give up their planning
period to provide coverage. Because the pay amount is equivalent to the certified
substitute pay rate, there is no additional cost associated versus securing substitute
coverage.

Recommendation:
Approve the salary schedule revisions to:
Item 1: Rename Future Problem Solving (FPS) to Strategic Problem Solving (SPS)
Item 2: Define a $3,000 annual stipend for a district wide ESS building coordinator
Item 3: Add stipend amount of $23 per class period for certified teachers who agree to
give up their planning period to provide coverage for unfilled teacher absences

Requested by Mr. Nathan Sweet, Director of Operations, and recommended by Dr. Neaves, Superintendent.
