Bloomfield Elementary began Patriot Time on Tuesday, September 15th to be intentional with instruction. All first though fifth grade students will be working in small groups with a teacher or they will alternate weeks doing Lexia or Reading Plus and Junior Great Books. We are very excited about this block of time during the day to focus on specific skills with students.
Bloomfield Middle celebrated Patriot’s Day by honoring local First Responders with breakfast and a program in their honor. Representatives from local Law Enforcement, Fire and Rescue, and Emergency Medical Services were on hand to view a program put together by the staff and students of Bloomfield Middle. The first responders were very pleased with the maturity and respect shown by the students of BMS.
Boston 8th grader, Sierra Meza, competed in her first high school varsity cross country race this Saturday at the very competitive St. Xavier Tiger Run and was the number one runner for Thomas Nelson High School. Congratulations Sierra!
Fifth graders created a Native American museum which included several displays and presentations for the entire school as well as community and family visitors.
Cox’s Creek Elementary received 61 Chrome Books and students are using them regularly with Lexia & V-Math.
Our school has six new murals which display the culture & history of Cox's Creek and the community.
The Early Learning Center hosted "Grandparents Day" on Friday September 12. There were 143 grandparents and other family members in attendance. The grandparents engaged in an outside "I Spy" activity with their grandchild which was followed by the children sharing story books and popcorn with their guests.
Nelson County High School has 76 Seniors out of a class of 191 that are currently College and Career Ready.
New Haven welcomed Grandparents to come eat Breakfast or Lunch at the school this week to celebrate Grandparents Day. Students were excited to have the special visitors join them in the cafeteria. This event had a great turnout and we hope to continue this next year!
Old Kentucky Home student leadership council members, Malorie Letner and Hannah Wright, had the opportunity to attend the Youth Leadership Symposium at General Butler State Park in June.
Hannah and Malorie were sponsored and chaperoned by Family Resource & Youth Services Center.
OKH Lady Wildcats took a day off from practice to devote time to community service at Windsor Garden's Nursing Home. Players gave residents hand massages & manicures, played garage can basketball, corn hole, and 6th grade student, Kelsey Mattingly sang a song to residents and played the piano.
Congratulations to Thomas Nelson High School senior Payton Carter who was selected as one of Lincoln Trail’s Youth Leaders of the Year. Payton will represent the Lincoln Trail Youth Salute district at the National Council on Youth Leadership “Town Meeting on Tomorrow” in October held in St. Louis.

United Way Grant Application
Tom Dekle
The four Nelson County FRYSC units each wish to apply individually for grant funding through United Way of Nelson County. Team Up! FRYSC, representing Cox's Creek, Foster Heights and Old Kentucky Home; Fusion YSC, representing NCHS, Thomas Nelson and Horizons Academy; The NESTT FRYSC representing both Bloomfield schools, and The Village FRYSC, representing Boston, New Haven and the Early Learning Center, wish to apply for funding totaling at least $8,250 together, in support of specific initiatives for each FRYSC center. Grant funding like this helps each center to provide services programs that go beyond the funding capacity typically expected through regular channels. No matching funds are required for these requests.
Motion Passed: Approval for Team Up! FRYSC, the NESTT FRYSC, The Village FRYSC, and Fusion YSC to apply for grant funding through United Way of Nelson County. passed with a motion by Mr. Nicky Rapier and a second by Mr. Larry Pate.
