Mr. David Trimble, Pikeville Independent Superintendent, joined the meeting to speak to guidance on students using facilities which are leased through the city of Pikeville. Mr. Trimble noted that the expectation is if a student is present in a school facility, there should be a school employee or volunteer present as well. Conversations regarding policy with the city of Pikeville will be had when a new city manager is employed regarding how facilities leased through the city will be governed. Mr. Trimble’s insight was prompted by a parental concern about lack of access to some facilities.

Mrs. Pam Ryan sought answers to the athletic eligibility process for students who transfer into the school from another district. Mr. Blackburn and Mr. Trimble explained the KHSAA bylaws for athletic eligibility and the process involved and attempted to clear up some potential misconceptions about a change in the law related to athletic eligibility for transfer students.

Mrs. Ryan also informed the council of some concern on the part of freshmen parents and the dates for joining school clubs and organizations. Mr. Blackburn communicated that there is plan for an organized release of that information in the near future to keep everyone on the same page.
