Discussion

Yvette Triplett spoke and said that the community was concerned about the safety of the in person graduation, but when the plan was released and the guests were limited to 6 with social distancing, that alleviated much of the concern.

III. Student Achievement Report
Jason Booher
Discussion

Mr. Booher outlined the plans for the upcoming high school graduation that had been approved by the Pike County Health Department.  It will be held on the football field on July 25.  Masks and social distancing required.  Students may have 6 family members attend as guests.

Discussion

Mr. Booher explained that we will have soon the exact amount of rollover to add to the budge for 20-21.  The proposal is to spend it on the student desks that we need in order to be able to properly social distance during lunch.

Discussion

A few changes are proposed to the student handbook:

1. change consquences for fighting.

2. change to wording about taking/posting videos taken at school to social media.

3. no hats/head coverings until further notice due to the mask requirement and being able to identify students quickly or on video.

Discussion

Meeting time for the SBDM Council meetings for the 20-21 school year will be the 2nd Monday of the month at 4:30 in the High School Library.

VI.b. Principal's Report
Discussion

Mr. Booher reviewed the school opening plan of the green/yellow/red/blue schedules and the biggest obstacle of having school in person with all of the students will be lunchtime since student's cannot wear masks while eating lunch.

 

KHSAA will give guidance on reopening sports on Aug. 3.


Mrs. King had a list of items she wanted to bring to the council's attention for discussion:

1. Would we be paying for Covid-19 testing for the staff?  Mr. Booher said that was a board issue.

2.  Did the administration discuss synchronous learning?  Mr. Booher said that it was too problematic to try and set up and Ms. Stewart said that there were too many potential issues with student confidentiality.

3. Can teachers wear scrubs while teacher?  Mr. Booher said that he would think about it and get back to the teachers with his answer.

4.  How would entering the building be set up?  Mr. Booher said there would be different entrances for different grade levels with temperature checks at each entrance

5.  What will happen if there is a positive test?  Mr. Booher said the health department would start contact tracing and we would follow their guidance on which students/staff needed to be quarantined or close school in an extreme  case.
