Ms. Pat Hall – Board Chair: Ms. Taylor, Ms. Wilson and I were able to attend the Winter Symposium. It was very good and we got to hear the head of the division on charter schools during our luncheon. I have his card and have his commitment that he will come to Campbellsville and talk to us personally. I think that is a good thing.

We are going to draft our board meeting calendar next month. I have some tentative dates and we’ll discuss with Mr. Smith.

Mr. Kirby Smith – Superintendent:

On November 14th we hosted a statewide Independent school District forum in the media center at CHS.  The purpose of this meeting was for Superintendents to given the opportunity to speak with Representative Bam Carney.  The meeting was well attended with around 35 Superintendents participating.

Students at CMS and CHS will begin taking semester finals next week.

CONGRESSMAN COMER ANNOUNCES CONGRESSIONAL APP CHALLENGE WINNERS

WASHINGTON – Congressman James Comer (KY-01) recognizes Christian Berry and Austin Fitzgerald for winning the First District 2017 Congressional App challenge.

Berry and Austin are students at Campbellsville High School. Their winning app called, “Balls vs. Aliens and Spikes,” will be displayed in the Capitol for a year.

“It’s great to see such imaginative students in the First Congressional District. Christian and Austin are a great example of the ingenuity and brilliance of many students across the district. I congratulate these two on creating an app that requires such creativity and precise coding. Technology is vital to this district, state and country, and competitions like these are important for our country in the future,” said Congressman Comer.

“Christian and Austin have shown substantial growth in not just coding skills, but also in problem solving and critical thinking and have learned how to work collaboratively with their peers.  These real-life skills will ensure their success in the future and possibly a career in Computer Science where many jobs are currently going unfilled.  Thanks to the organizers of the Congressional App Challenge for recognizing and encouraging our students,” said Sonya Kessler, teacher at Campbellsville Independent Schools.

The Congressional App Challenge was created to help promote interest in STEM skills, abilities that are imminently important to the future of the United States. The competition is open to high school students across the first district. For more information on the 2018 competition, you can visit comer.house.gov.

Once again, I want to thank you for the opportunity I have been given.  I love this District, I love coming to work every day and the employees of this District are second to none.

As I reflect back on my first 5.5 to 6 months on the job I can’t remember a time since I have been an Eagle when things were any better.

Test Scores are good and we continue to improve at each school every year.  CES – Top 3 and CHS with highest ACT ever and a record number of students passing AP exams!

This year has been the most successful fall sports season with many teams winning regional titles and competing at the state level.

Our band had another successful season – finishing 3rd at Mid-states in OH.

Facilities are in great shape with new projects (restrooms, concession stand and ticket booth at the Durham campus and new fencing at CHS with a ticket booth and landscaping at CHS baseball/football stadium) slated to be completed in the spring.   CES has a larger playground with new mulch.  This soccer and middle school football season was the first chance to try out the new bleachers.

We survived “Solar Eclipse Day” – great learning opportunity for our students and staff with everyone in the District given a pair of viewing glasses.

Eagle family night was once again a huge success!

Hosted the KSBA regional meeting in September.

I have attended Chamber, Rotary and Kiwanis meetings.  Spoke at Rotary and Kiwanis.

I have spent a lot of time on the road between attending Superintendent meetings at GRREC and trainings in Frankfort.

We had Senator Wise speak to the employees concerning the pension crisis.  I have done my best to keep all employees informed as I have received information.

Hosted a KCA night – very well received by all that attended.

Hosted an Independent School District legislative session with Representative Bam Carney.

I have enjoyed the opportunity I have had to visit all our schools. We have some amazing folks doing great things with our students.  I appreciate how hard both our teachers and students work on a daily basis and I value the partnership we have with our parents and community partners.

Looking ahead to 2018, I am excited about the endless opportunities we have to continue to move this District forward.
