VI.A.2. Elementary Arts and Foreign Language Integration Grant
Rationale

The Kentucky Department of Education has issued a request for applications for “Elementary Arts and Foreign Language Integration” grants. Old Kentucky Home Intermediate School and Foster Heights Elementary School would like to partner for one of these grants. This grant is meant to promote the regular instruction in the four arts and a nationally designated “critical” foreign language. The goal is to integrate the arts and the intense study of a foreign language throughout a school and across the curriculum.
Foster Heights and OKHI would like to expand and build on the study of Chinese, which is already taking place in those schools, as well as elsewhere in the district. KDE plans to fund 10 two-year grants for $91,960, awarding $45,980 for each of the two-year grant period. This grant will help fund an on-going Chinese program and also lend support to regular instruction in the four specified arts disciplines of dance, drama, music and visual arts.
