9.E. Director of Finance Job Description Revision
Rationale

When our current Finance Director, Kay Bryant, was hired, a high school diploma or GED certificate were the only educational requirements for the position.  That prerequisite has since changed, requiring all new hires after July 1, 2015 to now have a Bachelor’s degree and one of the following:  12 hours of accounting class hours or four years professional experience in a business office setting or at least two years’ experience school finance.  Additionally, new hires must also go through the internship process as stated in 702 KAR 3: 320.

These changes are reflected in the revised Director of Finance Job Description.  Copies of the current job description along with the proposed one are attached for your review.

9.G. Full-time Substitute Custodian Position
Rationale

As a result of having several custodians on leave and not having a pool of qualified sub custodians to fill in, it is becoming increasingly challenging to provide clean and safe learning environments for our students.  We are hoping that by creating a full-time substitue custodian position, we will be able to find a quality candidate willing to fill that role until an opening occurs.

Recommended Motion

The approval the creation of one Full-time Substitute Custodian position at 0 years experience with benefits

9.H. Laptop Fees
Rationale

When we first started the laptop initiative, the company was allowing us to requests free parts as often as we needed for accidental damages. This was the case in both round 1 and round 2 of laptops. Last year, DELL made a change that we can only request 1 replacement part per 12 months per computer. If we have to request more than 1 in a 12 month period then we have to pay for that part. This is based on accidental damage. We believe companies have learned that students can be very hard on these devices and that is what has prompted them to change their practices.

The LCHS SBDM reviewed our current laptop fees for repairs and have approved the changes seen on the attached form. This adjustment is reflected in our student handbook. The estimated values have increased by $5.00 to $10.00 from what the board approved at the May meeting. In addition, we have found that more students have reported laptops lost or stolen (possibly to prevent them from claiming they have damage to their computer and therefore being fined). In previous years we have not charged for a lost or stolen laptop. We are proposing that there be a lost/stolen laptop fee. (see attached)

LAPTOP RESTITUTION

Accidental Damages

If the first occurrence of damage is deemed accidental by the school, the student will be charged $20 for the damages. Any subsequent damages in any single school year will be deemed negligent and the student will be charged based on the Damage Hardware Restitution chart.

Negligent/Intentional Damages

Neglect is considered the lack of proper care of the laptop. This can include but is not limited to: Leaving the computer unattended in the classroom or any other location, letting others use or misuse your computer, not storing it in a safe place, not using your laptop case when transporting.

Intentional is considered anything done deliberately. Examples can include but are not limited to: hitting or throwing your laptop, taking it apart, pulling parts and stickers off of the laptop, marking the laptop with ink, paint, pencil, or carving the laptop.

Lost/Stolen Laptops

Students who have lost their laptop should make every effort to locate it by retracing their steps and communicating with their teachers, parents, and fellow students.  If the laptop is not found, the student should report the laptop as lost to school administration.  Any found laptops are turned in to the front office and students should report to the assistant principal to recover their device.

If a laptop is missing for more than 3 days or is known to have been stolen/destroyed, it will be the responsibility of the student to file it with either the police department or their insurance company (if an insurance claim is being placed).  Any documentation including the police report or insurance claim should be provided to school administration.

In the event of a missing, stolen, or destroyed laptop, it is the responsibility of the student to provide restitution based on the prorated chart below.
