II. Adoption of a Resolution Committing to Support the Future State of Education for Jefferson County Public Schools
Rationale

The Board has established a bold vision for the Future State of Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), which seeks to transform our students, our schools, and our city through strategic investment in the critical elements needed for all JCPS students to fulfill their academic, creative, and social potential.

The Future State will have vastly more JCPS students who are academically proficient at grade level and differences in outcomes between racial and economic groups of JCPS students substantially eliminated. This will be achieved through increased instructional time; comprehensive academic, social, and mental health supports; expanded school choice; and the construction of new 21st Century schools.

Through this resolution, the Board, with the support of key community partners, expresses its intent that the District will budget and spend revenues from the voter-approved tax increase of approximately $54 million in fiscal year 2021-22, and for each of the subsequent four years, according to the JCPS Future State Plan. The Future State Plan includes significant investment in: 21st century facilities that engage students and faculty; additional resources for our highest-need schools; District-wide racial equity initiatives and financial support to increase student instructional time.
