Review of Charter School Policies – Authorizing Role and Application Process

The 2017 Regular Session of the General Assembly approved HB 520, legislation that allows charter schools in Kentucky. At its December 2017 meeting, the Kentucky Board of Education approved four charter school regulations. KRS 160.1590 establishes local boards of education as authorizers and 701 KAR 8:020 requires specific policies to be adopted by authorizers in fulfillment of the duties of authorizing established in statute and regulation. This work session shall include two policies that the Board will review for future adoption relating to the organizational capacity to support authorizing and the application process for charter school applicants.
