I. Head Start Corrective Action Plan and Next Steps
Rationale

10 10 17 JCBE Work Session Audio

On March 3, 2017, the Office of Head Start within the Administration for Families and Children (ACF) conducted a monitoring review of the Jefferson County Board of Education Head Start and Early Head Start programs. In a letter dated August 24, 2017, the Acting Director of the Office of Head Start notified the Board Chair and Acting Superintendent that, based on the information gathered during the review, deficiencies were identified relating to ensuring safe learning environments for children in the areas of program standards of conduct and reporting.

The Office of Head Start requires that a corrective action plan be developed and submitted by October 24, 2017, to address the deficiencies that have been identified.

The JCPS Office of Early Childhood Education is finalizing the corrective action plan and has already begun initiating steps to improve systems, practice, and reporting to address the deficiencies.

This presentation will provide the Board with a progress report regarding the completion of the corrective action plan, the steps that have already been taken, and next steps, to make certain that the district is in compliance with Head Start and Early Head Start requirements and to ensure safe learning environments for all children that are served.
