I. Revisions to the Code of Acceptable Behavior & Discipline and the Behavior Support System
Rationale

Audio: 6 28 2016 Work Session

Revisions to the Code of Acceptable Behavior & Discipline
During a Work Session on April 26, 2016, the Board received an update on the work of the Code of Conduct Committee, which had met six times during January through March. After that initial Board Work Session, JCPS staff solicited feedback from stakeholders and community members.

During this Work Session, Board members will receive a revised draft of the Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline, reflecting the changes made based on the feedback received, including the addition of language to address the positive behavior supports to improve student behavior, and to reflect adjustments to the range of corrective actions for inappropriate behavior.

Positive Behavior Support System
Board members will receive a report regarding work to establish and implement a new behavior support framework, using a team-based approach with internal and external participants. The presentation will include discussion of:
•    Timelines for development and implementation;
•    Meeting dates for team committee meetings;
•    Initial training planned for Assistant Principals and other school-based staff for the 2016-17 school year to ensure fair and consistent application of behavior policies across the district;
•    Roll-out of expanded Restorative Practice pilot program; and
•    Data monitoring process to improve fidelity, accuracy, and consistency of data collection regarding behavior.
