Rationale

Pursuant to Board Policy 01.821 (attached) Board Member Compensation and Expenses, Board members shall be reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses incurred outside the District. Board members shall obtain Board approval prior to incurring out-of-District expenses.

Chairwoman Diane Porter and Superintendent Donna Hargens have been invited to attend an event at the White House on Monday, July 21, 2014, announcing the Council of the Great City Schools Males of Color Pledge Initiative.

The Board of Education approved a resolution in support of Males of Color on June 10, 2014. The approval for payment of expenses was pulled from the June 23, 2014, Board agenda because the event was cancelled with notice that the event would be rescheduled at a later date.

Superintendent Donna Hargens recommends that the Board of Education approve the payment of necessary out-of-District expenses to be incurred by Board Member Diane Porter to attend an event hosted by the Council of the Great City Schools.

The recommendation passed with a motion by Mr. Chris Brady and a second by Mrs. Debbie Wesslund.
