I. Annual Head Start/Early Head Start Training
Rationale

James Christopher Watkins, finance and management specialist, from Training and Technical Assistance Services at Western Kentucky University will facilitate this Governance Training session, which will explore shared decision making between parents, staff, and the community.

Board members will be provided the resource book CEO (Cooperative Effective Oversight) for Head Start and Early Head Start Decision Makers.

Objectives and Outcomes include:

  • To learn the history of shared decision-making;
  • To review the roles and responsibilities of the Policy Council, Governing Body, and Management staff in shared decision making;
  • To review the governance requirements from the Head Start Program Performance Standards and the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007;
  • To discuss basic parliamentary procedures and running a successful meeting;
  • To learn about the importance of teamwork; and
  • To explore the role of the Parent Committee in effective program governance.
