The KSBA PEAK Award was established in 1997 to focus statewide attention on outstanding public school efforts aimed specifically at enhancing student learning skills and, in doing so, to promote the positive impact of public elementary and secondary education in this Commonwealth.

Public Comments
The Franklin County Board of Education has provided time in its agenda for individuals to make comments. Comments to the Board will be allowed up to a maximum of three (3) minutes. The Board does not allow comments on any matter dealing with personnel issues. Kentucky law states specifically that personnel matters are the responsibility of the Superintendent. On all personnel matters, you should contact the Superintendent of Schools. No questions, comments, or decisions/action related to public comments will be made by Board members at this time, unless the specific topic is on the agenda; however, the Board will listen to the comments and/or suggestions which may lead to a discussion of same at a future meeting. If an individual wishes for the Board to discuss and/or take action on a particular issue, they must follow the procedures outlined in Franklin County Board of Education Policy 10.2. The Superintendent or the designee will be able to assist in this request.

Pursuant to KRS 157.655-157.660 and 750 KAR 2:010, the School Facilities Construction Commission (SFCC) is hereby making an official FY2023 KETS offer of assistance to the Board of Education.
Based on the statewide ADA figures being used for FY2022 SEEK this year, the second offer of assistance in FY2023 is in the amount of $53,142.03. Accepted state technology fund offers of assistance must be matched equally by the Board of Education or can be escrowed for up to three (3) years.

Use of School Property for Personal Garden
The residents of 132 Seminole Trail, Joe and Linda Stewart, are requesting the continued use a small area behind their house owned by FCS for garden space. This space has been utilized by the residents in the past.
We would allow them to continue using the space on the contingency that they are responsible for maintaining the area (mowing, trimming, etc.) per the approval of the director of maintenance. If the area is not maintained to our expectations, we reserve the right to withdraw the approval.

Social Media Litigation Resolution
School districts in Kentucky and across the country are supporting social media litigation for the harms caused to students. The resolution and details from the representing law firm are attached for your consideration.
Currently, the school boards for Breathitt, Bullitt, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Larue, Jefferson, Jessamine, Johnson, Madison, Martin and Wolfe counties have all approved resolutions to join this litigation. All boards that have considered the litigation have voted to approve it. None have voted no.

Volleyball Camp Overnight Trip-FCHS
The Franklin County High School Volleyball Team would like to request permission to attend the Morehead State University Team Camp on July 11-13, 2023 in Morehead, KY. We will have 25 players attending the camp and 5 coaches. Players will be paying their own fees to attend and meals will be provided by MSU. A bus will be needed for both Monday, July 11 and Wednesday, July 13. The team will be staying on campus and all five coaches (Dale Adkins, Susan Hellard, Chris Schimoeller, Sheila Morris-Rogers, Jessica Williams) will be going as coaches and chaperones.

Volleyball Team Overnight-FCHS
The Franklin County High School Varsity Volleyball Team would like to request permission to participate in the Cake Classic at Highlands High School in Ft. Thomas, KY on Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16, 2023. The team has 15 players attending the tournament and 3 coaches (Dale Adkins, Suzie Hellard, Chris Schimoeller).They will be staying at the Embassy Suites in Covington, KY. The FCHS Volleyball Boosters will pay for the lodging and a meal on Friday night. Players will be responsible for their meals on Saturday.

The Spanish Club at FCHS would like to organize a trip to Costa Rica using CHA Educational Tours on Spring Break during the 2023-2024 school year.

FCHS FFA is requesting permission to compete in the FFA State Convention June 6-9, 2023. The competition will be held in Rupp Arena in Lexington. The FFA Chapter will be paying for the trip and hotel for students. They will be using FCS bus transportation.

This will be for students entering grades 1-6. The cost for each camper will be $100. This will be considered a fundraiser for the FCHS Volleyball Booster Club.

Volleyball Tournament Fundraiser-FCHS
The Franklin County High School Volleyball Team would like to host our annual tournament, the Capital City Classic on September 8-9, 2023. There will be 16 teams that will be participating in the tournament. The cost for teams to participate will be $300 and each team will play 4 games total. We would like to use the gyms at both FCHS and Elkhorn Middle School. Funds collected from tournament fees, t-shirt sales, and other concessions will be considered a fundraiser for the FCHS Volleyball Booster Club.
