Rationale

The Franklin County Board of Education has provided time in its agenda for individuals to make comments. Comments to the Board will be allowed up to a maximum of three (3) minutes. The Board does not allow comments on any matter dealing with personnel issues. Kentucky law states specifically that personnel matters are the responsibility of the Superintendent. On all personnel matters, you should contact the Superintendent of Schools. No questions, comments, or decisions/action related to public comments will be made by Board members at this time, unless the specific topic is on the agenda; however, the Board will listen to the comments and/or suggestions which may lead to a discussion of same at a future meeting. If an individual wishes for the Board to discuss and/or take action on a particular issue, they must follow the procedures outlined in Franklin County Board of Education Policy 10.2. The Superintendent or the designee will be able to assist in this request.

IV. New Business
IV.A. Use of School Property for Personal Garden
Rationale

The residents of 132 Seminole Trail, Joe and Linda Stewart, are requesting the continued use of a small area behind their house owned by FCS for garden space. This space has been utilized by the residents in the past.

We would allow them to continue using the space on the contingency that they are responsible for maintaining the area (mowing, trimming, etc.) per the approval of the director of maintenance. If the area is not maintained to our expectations, we reserve the right to withdraw the approval.

VI.F.1. TSA Conference Overnight Trip-CTC
Rationale

Franklin County Career and Tech students in our TSA Club is requesting permission to attend the TSA Competition held at the Griffin Gate Marriott-Lexington, KY.  This trip dates will be for April 25, 26 and 27 of 2022. 

There will be 11 students attending with 3 chaperones.  Glenn Walker and Michael Lee will be advisors attending with students. 

Transportation will be provided by school district buses.  TSA Activity account will cover the cost of the 11 students rooms and registrations.  Perkins Money will cover the cost of the 3 chaperones and their registrations. 

The is an opportunity for engineering and information technology students to compete against their peers in a variety of STEM-related events. Attached is the bus request for approval signature.

VI.F.2. JROTC Field Trip

JROTC requests the following field trip:

 
Where:  National Museum of the Air Force, Dayton, Ohio
When:  29 April  (target date), leave approximately 7:30 am, return approximately 8:30 pm.
Who:  Estimated 50 JROTC students and 3-4 chaperones.  Students would be from FCHS,
           WHHS, and Frankfort High School.
How:  Bus (possibly Miller Transportation)
Cost:  Museum is free admission.  Lunch and dinner: $1,000.00  Bus and driver:  $740.00
Funding:  JROTC Section 578 (Current balance: $1,835.97)
 

VI.F.3. AP World History Class Cincinnati Art Museum Field Trip-WHHS
Rationale

Western Hills High School requests your consideration for approval for the AP World History class, 26 students, to travel by school bus with 4 chaperones on 4/22/22 to the Cincinnati Art Museum.  Students will participate in a tour of the museum's artifacts with an emphasis on world history.  Students will conduct research based on topics they selected from collections.  They will depart at 8:30 am and return at 3:30 pm.  

VI.F.4. FFA Trip to KY State Convention-WHHS
Rationale

Western Hills High School requests approval for WHHS FFA members to attend and compete at the 2022 KY FFA State Convention in Lexington June 7th through June 9th, 2022.  Twenty-five students will attend with 3 chaperones and stay at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Lexington. Students will travel from WHHS to Lexington via school bus and will pay for rooms and registration.  The Kentucky State FFA Convention is a culminating event for some of our FFA members.  Members will represent the FFA chapter and the Capital City Region in competitions with other students from across the state.  In addition to competing, students will participate in leadership sessions and attend the career show.  

VI.F.5. 4H Field Trip-WRE

Westridge Elementary requests approval for an overnight field trip to 4H camp arriving on May 18th and returning May 19th.  Attached are the Field Trip Request Form and the Rental Application.

VI.G.1. Candleberry Fundraiser-WRE
Rationale

Westridge Elementary PTO requests permission to fundraise through Candleberry.  The funds will be used for school activities.

VI.G.2. Glow Dance-HES

Hearn Elementary is requesting to host a glow dance on April 14, 2022.

This is sponsored by Hearn Elementary PTA.

Entry fee for the dance is $5.

Proceeds will be going to the PTA.

VI.G.3. WRE-Betty J. Martin L.I.F.E. House For Animals Donation Drive
Rationale

Westridge Elementary Alpha Council requests permission to collect supplies for the L.I.F.E. House to provide to care to animals.  The Alpha Council is Westridge Elementary Leadership Council that plans community service and school-wide opportunities for our school.

VI.G.4. Spring Musical Fundraiser-BPE
Rationale

Bridgeport is seeking approval for a tshirt fundraiser to benefit the BPE Spring Musical fund in order to 

pay for the cost of our microphone and light rental.
 
Our fundraiser will begin Wednesday, April 13th and will run until Friday, April 22nd.

The t-shirts will cost approximately $10 and we will be selling them for $15. We expect to sell 50 shirts to make a profit of $250.

VI.G.5. Jog-A-Thon-WRE
Rationale

Westridge Elementary requests approval for our annual Jog-A-Thon Fundraiser.  This is a school-wide PTO fundraiser that happens during the school day. Students raise money for the number of laps run during PE class.  The money raised is 100% profit for PTO and is used for student activities throughout the school-year.

VI.G.6. Scholastic Book Fair Fundraiser-WRE
Rationale

Westridge Elementary requests approval for the Scholastic Book Fair April 21st through April 28th.  The money raised will go directly to the library to improve book selection, technology, and maker space items.

VI.G.7. Project Graduation Fundraiser-District Wide
Rationale

The Project Graduation Committee would like to organize a district-wide fundraiser (pending Principal approval at each school) selling popsicles/ice cream. All proceeds will go to Project Graduation.

VI.H. Boys Basketball Skills Camp-FCHS
Rationale

FCHS Boys Basketball is requesting permission to host a basketball skills camp June 20-23, 2022 at FCHS from 8:00am-12:00pm. Cost per attendee is $50. All funds will be considered a fundraiser for the FCHS Boys Basketball Booster club.

 

VI.I. Boys Running Club Fee-WRE
Rationale

The Westridge Boys Running Club is more than just a running program.They combine exercise with fun activities and practical lessons. We are encouraging the boys to be active, be themselves, and belong. This season we will highlight goal setting, setting priorities, being a gentleman, self esteem and making good choices.
 
The cost for the program is $25 and includes a tshirt, snacks at each of our meetings, materials for our meetings and the remainder goes to help offset the cost of the end of season 5K.
 
We have set the program up similar to Girls on the Run, but we are not using a national program and are writing our own curriculum.

VI.J. WHHS Boys Intramural Basketball
Rationale

WHHS requests approval of a boys intramural basketball event to begin May 2nd and conclude May 20th.  Games will take place at the WHHS gym and are for WHHS students only.  Students have secured sponsors and coaches for the event and have planned a tentative schedule for tryouts, practices, games as well as a tournament within the 3 week time frame.  Students have requested to charge a $20 fee for each participant to cover the cost of referees, t-shirts, snacks and drinks for the event.  

VI.K. The Academy & FFECC Extended School Calendar 2022-2023
Rationale

Our state agency school program students at The Academy and Future Forward Education & Career Center go to school an additional 33 days each year. Attached is the 2022-2023 Extended School Calendar for FCS.
