Honoring the members of the

Franklin County Board of Education

during School Board Recognition Month

January 2022

 

 

WHEREAS our community values a quality education as a vital step along the pathway to success for our children; and

 

WHEREAS Natalie Lile, Chuck Fletcher, BeLinda Henson, Larry Perkins, and Justin Watterson contribute greatly to this community through their service on the Franklin County Board of Education; and

 

WHEREAS these decision-makers are responsible for maintaining strong, effective budgetary oversight, high standards for employment and a safe, well-managed set of school facilities; and

 

WHEREAS these board members are serving our community with integrity, honor and a commitment to our children’s futures; and

 

WHEREAS January 2022 marks Kentucky's observation of their contributions through School Board Recognition Month;

 

THEREFORE, I, Huston Wells, County Judge/Executive, do hereby proclaim the month of January 2022 throughout this community as School Board Recognition Month and urge all citizens to honor Natalie Lile, Chuck Fletcher, BeLinda Henson, Larry Perkins and Justin Watterson for their service.

IV. Public Comments
Rationale

The Franklin County Board of Education has provided time in its agenda for individuals to make comments. Comments to the Board will be allowed up to a maximum of three (3) minutes. The Board does not allow comments on any matter dealing with personnel issues. Kentucky law states specifically that personnel matters are the responsibility of the Superintendent. On all personnel matters, you should contact the Superintendent of Schools. No questions, comments, or decisions/action related to public comments will be made by Board members at this time, unless the specific topic is on the agenda; however, the Board will listen to the comments and/or suggestions which may lead to a discussion of same at a future meeting. If an individual wishes for the Board to discuss and/or take action on a particular issue, they must follow the procedures outlined in Franklin County Board of Education Policy 10.2. The Superintendent or the designee will be able to assist in this request.

V. New Business
V.A. Donation from WHHS Football Boosters
Rationale

Donations valued at $1000 or more must be approved by the board. The Western Hills High School football boosters would like to donate $2254.79 to the boys soccer team.

V.B. KASA Legislative Drive-in Bus Request
Rationale

KASA is requesting the use of two buses and bus drivers on January 12th from 10:45-1:45 for the purpose of transporting KASA members and legislators from the Capitol Annex to the VFW for a legislative drive-in day.  All costs associated with this request will be covered by KASA.

VII.E.1. WHAS Crusade for Children Grant 2022-2023
Rationale

The WHAS Crusade for Children Grant proposal is requesting $41576.04 to purchase Moving with Math materials and hire one instructional assistant to continue with the Sonday System.  This will provide students with disabilities, grades K-6, a research based intervention to address reading and math.

VII.F.3. Request FT Emergency Certification
Rationale

Request Approval for full-time emergency certification- Jonathan Owens to teach English at WHHS, Samantha Nolot to teach Special Education at EMS.

 

VII.G. Overnight/Out-of-State Trips
VII.G.1. Skills USA Overnight Trip-CTC
Rationale

CTC is requesting permission to take 10 students and 2 adults to Skills USA State Competition.  Advisors going with students will be Randy Shewmaker and John Sanders.  The Trip is scheduled at the Galt House in Louisville, KY on April 13th-16th, 2022.  The Student Activity account (Skills USA) will be covering cost of students rooms, and registration.  Perkins Money will be covering cost for the advisors.

VII.G.2. All-State Band-FCHS
Rationale

FCHS Band requests approval to participate in All-State Band Feb. 2-5, 2022 in Louisville, Ky.

Josh Toppass, band director will chaperone the two students attending.

 

Accommodations:  The Galt House, Louisville

The cost per student is $200 (paid by student and boosters).

Parents will transport their own student to and from the event.

VII.G.3. Ski Club Perfect North Trip-WHHS
Rationale

The new ski club at Western Hills High School requests your approval to take 17 students to Perfect North Slopes on January 14, 2022. Students will be transported by FCS buses and paid for by the FRYSC.  Two chaperones will be attending. 

VII.H. Shortened School Day Notice
Rationale

Previously the board was notified of five students requesting a shortened school day/week.

We have been notified of one additional shortened school day.  All records are maintained in Jami Miller's office.
