III. Public Comments
Rationale

The Franklin County Board of Education has provided time in its agenda for individuals to make comments. Comments to the Board will be allowed up to a maximum of three (3) minutes. The Board does not allow comments on any matter dealing with personnel issues. Kentucky law states specifically that personnel matters are the responsibility of the Superintendent. On all personnel matters, you should contact the Superintendent of Schools. No questions, comments, or decisions/action related to public comments will be made by Board members at this time, unless the specific topic is on the agenda; however, the Board will listen to the comments and/or suggestions which may lead to a discussion of same at a future meeting. If an individual wishes for the Board to discuss and/or take action on a particular issue, they must follow the procedures outlined in Franklin County Board of Education Policy 10.2. The Superintendent or the designee will be able to assist in this request.

IV. New Business
IV.A. BMS Choir/Drama Program Donation
Rationale

Donations valued at $1000 or more must be approved by the board. The Michael C. Davenport Chapel Charity Foundation would like to donate $5000 to the Bondurant Middle School Choir and Drama Program. The donation specifically is to help BMS bring back opportunities for students to perform in school musicals and drama performances.

IV.E. Graduation 2022
Rationale

The district surveyed senior students, parents and staff at Western Hills High School and Franklin County High School for the following options:

 

1. Graduation ceremonies to take place on Saturday, June 4, 2022 in Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. 28.9% preferred this option.

2. Graduation ceremonies to take place on our high school football fields on Saturday, May 28, 2022.  A rain makeup date would be on Sunday, May 29, 2022 (using our high school gymnasiums as a backup plan if it rains both days). 60.1 % preferred this option.

3. Graduation ceremonies to take place at Kentucky State University in the Exum Center with a set amount of tickets available for families (date to be determined). 11% preferred this option.

Rationale

We are requesting approval to apply for the Snapdragon Book Foundation Grant. The amount we are applying for is $3,000. If awarded, this grant would be used to purchase books for a new section in the library that will be dedicated to junior nonfiction titles. The grant application is attached.
 

VII.E.2. KySTE 2021-2022 Outreach Application-BMS
Rationale

James Gary, teacher at Bondurant Middle School, would like to apply for the KySTE 2021 Outreach Grant. The total of his proposal is $7993.  See attached for details. 
 
The grant will be used for purchasing 3-D Printers and Materials.

VII.G. Overnight/Out-of-State Trips
VII.G.1. FCHS Beta Overnight Trip-FCHS
Rationale

FCHS requests permission to participate in the KY State Beta Club Convention January 9-11, 2022 at the Louisville Convention Center.
Students will be traveling by bus to the Galt House. The cost for students is $215.
There are scholarships available for students who cannot pay or require a reduced rate for the trip. 80 students are estimated to attend and 6 chaperones: Kathy Parritt, Stacia Campbell, Amy Lofton, Jennifer Donnelly, Josh Toppass, and Tom Marshall.

 

VII.G.2. U of L Honor Band-WHHS
Rationale

WHHS requests for approval of an overnight Band trip on January 21-22, 2022, to the University of Louisville for students to audition for the University of Louisville Invitational Honor Band.  Students were selected to audition earlier this year.  Band members will audition, rehearse and perform during both days of this trip.  They will have the opportunity to work with university faculty, staff and graduate students as well as the opportunity to explore the U of L campus.  Students will travel via school bus.  

VII.G.3. KMEA All-State Band Conference-WHHS
Rationale

WHHS students completed two auditions and were selected to perform with the Kentucky All-State band at the Kentucky Music Educators' Association Conference. WHHS students will have the opportunity to work with students from across the state, see performances and attend exhibits of new music and instruments.  Mrs. Wallace, WHHS Band Director, will conduct a Professional Development session as well.  Students will be transported by their respective parents. We respectfully request your consideration of approval for this trip, scheduled February 8-11, 2022, in Louisville, KY.  

VII.G.4. Chorus Overnight Trip Request-FCHS

FCHS Spring Choir Tour


April 29-May 1, 2022


This letter is written on behalf of the choral program at FCHS. In lieu of our NYC trip, we are sticking with a trip closer to home. Treble Chorale and Choristers will travel to Pigeon Forge, TN to compete in Music in the Parks at Dollywood. We will also be taking 2 small college tours at EKU and UCumberlands on the way down to TN. Students compete Friday evening, 4/29. They spend Saturday, 4/30 at Dollywood with an Awards Ceremony. And Sunday, we travel home. 


40 Choristers and 36 Treble Chorale Members plus several FCPS Board Approved Chaperones will be traveling.


Attached to this letter is the Hotel Contract (Hampton Inn, Pigeon Forge, TN) and the Motorcoach Contract with Miller Transportation.


Estimated Trip Cost: $325 (Includes lodging 2 nights, at least 2 meals each day, Music in the Park Fee, motorcoach transportation, and accomodations for director/accompanist.)


No child will be denied the opportunity to travel due to cost. Community Sponsors will help assist with kids who cannot afford the travel costs.

VII.G.5. Overnight Trip Request for Chorus-FCHS
Rationale

FCHS requests permission to travel overnight to Louisville, Ky Feb. 2-5, 2022 to participate in the Ky KMEA All State Convention and In Service Conference at the Hyatt Regency and the Louisville Convention Center.

Please see attached letter with full details.

Trip Cost per student is $180 for Senior High and $120 for Junior High. All State Registration costs were paid using booster funds.  No child will be denied the opportunity to go based on financial reasons.  The students are responsible for food costs throughout the weekend.

District Transportation is needed to Louisville on Wednesday and Parents are responsible for pickup after the respective concerts on Thursday and Friday evenings.

WHHS requests approval for an overnight trip to the State Beta Convention, January 9-11, 2022, in Louisville, KY.  Students will compete in a variety of events in several academic areas.
