The Franklin County Board of Education has provided time in its agenda for individuals to make comments. Comments to the Board will be allowed up to a maximum of three (3) minutes. The Board does not allow comments on any matter dealing with personnel issues. Kentucky law states specifically that personnel matters are the responsibility of the Superintendent. On all personnel matters, you should contact the Superintendent of Schools. No questions, comments, or decisions/action related to public comments will be made by Board members at this time, unless the specific topic is on the agenda; however, the Board will listen to the comments and/or suggestions which may lead to a discussion of same at a future meeting. If an individual wishes for the Board to discuss and/or take action on a particular issue, they must follow the procedures outlined in Franklin County Board of Education Policy 10.2. The Superintendent or the designee will be able to assist in this request.

Rationale

John Shasky from 5/3 Bank and Shane Smith will present to the board for consideration a virtual card program used by several other local school districts to pay vendors that accept these types of payments. One of the primary benefits to the district is the rebate associated with the program.

VIII.D.3. Western Hills Football Game Agreement with Dayton High School
Rationale

The Western Hills High School Football Team would like permission to enter into an agreement with Dayton High School for a football game during the 2021 and 2022 football season.  This would be during week 3 and could potentially be an overnight event, depending on if it becomes a Saturday game or Friday night.  This is outside the commuting mileage and the football team will be responsible for costs outside the regular trip should they occur.  

VIII.D.4. Special Education and ADA/FMLA Services

Westridge Elementary Drama Club requests the approval of the Candleberry Fundraiser Contract. The students involved with Mary Poppins will sell candles to raise money to cover expenses for the play.

Please approve two continuing 2020-21 contracts with PEBC for Administrative Leadership Coaching paid through Federal Title II funds. 

One contract is for three days of vision/mission work held in June 2020.  The other contract is for 6 days of follow up coaching in the 2020-2021 school year.  Again, both are paid with Title II funds.

Rationale

Western Hills would like to ask permission to continue an annual contract with John's Lawn and Landscaping to continue to fertilize,  Aeration and Seeding.  Money would come from the Athletic account.

VIII.E.1. Super Sibling Library Grant Application- PME
Rationale

Stephanie White school librarian at PME would like to apply for this classroom library grant (not sure they will approve a school library -- but doesn't hurt to try) to purchase books for my Super Sibling program.   Super Sibling will encourage Peaks Mill students to read daily to their younger siblings to increase word exposure and establish reading concepts prior to starting school.

Classroom Library Grant

What?
Grants of up to $500.00 are available for educators for a thoughtfully presented classroom literacy project and/or library collection that increases children’s access to print, including multicultural texts that inspire learning in the classroom.

Who?
Any K-12 level educator who is a member of the Kentucky Reading Association. Applicants that are not current paid members of KRA will not be considered.

Judging Criteria

Winning grant proposals demonstrate:

  • Creativity in designing relevant and challenging projects for students and/or families involved;
  • Clearly defined and reasonable project ideas that contribute to good teaching and/or literacy practices;
  • Direct benefit to students, school and/or community which can be measured and replicated for benefit to others;
  • Encouragement of a love of reading;
  • Objectives aligned to Kentucky’s newly revised standards

Priority will be given to those educators who are willing to share their knowledge and experience of this project through intent to submit a proposal to present at the KRA Annual Conference, write and submit a brief article for the KRA newsletter, or submit an article for the KRA journal.

Rationale

Requesting permission for the students who qualified for the middle school state academic team competition  to stay overnight at the Galt House in Louisville, March 14-16, 2020 for approximately 10 students.  The coach will chaperone.  Parents will transport students to the competition and a bus will be requested for travel home. 

VIII.G.2. Overnight Trip-FCHS
Rationale

FCHS requests approval to send Jacob Hogan (2019-20 Sophomore) to summer Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Conference.  The conference will be held June 19-21, 2020 on the campus of Berea College in Berea, Ky.  Students do stay overnight at the Berea Campus.  FCHS selects one representative to attend the summer leadership conference.  The registration fee of $225 is paid by Franklin County Schools Guidance Funds.  Parent is responsible for transportation to and from the conference.  Parent does not stay at leadership conference.  Supervision is by the HOBY Leadership Conference staff.

The BETA club officers have been invited to the Leadership Summit in Evansville, Indiana.  Four of our club officers would like to request permission to attend the overnight conference.  The student's parents would provide transportation and the club sponsor would also attend.  The club would pay for registration and lodging.  The student would be staying at the Double Tree Hilton in Evansville.  The dates are March 12th and 13th.  

VIII.G.12. Softball Team Trip-FCHS

The FCHS Softball Team would like to request approval to travel overnight to Bowling Green, Kentucky to compete in the Franklin Simpson Invitational March 27-28, 2020.

Our fundraiser will begin the first week of March (pending your approval) and will run until April 4th.

 

The pencils will cost us .50/piece, will be sold for $1, and we hope to sell 300 pencils ($150 profit).
