Rationale

The Franklin County Board of Education has provided time in its agenda for individuals to make comments. Comments to the Board will be allowed up to a maximum of three (3) minutes. The Board does not allow comments on any matter dealing with personnel issues. Kentucky law states specifically that personnel matters are the responsibility of the Superintendent. On all personnel matters, you should contact the Superintendent of Schools. No questions, comments, or decisions/action related to public comments will be made by Board members at this time, unless the specific topic is on the agenda; however, the Board will listen to the comments and/or suggestions which may lead to a discussion of same at a future meeting. If an individual wishes for the Board to discuss and/or take action on a particular issue, they must follow the procedures outlined in Franklin County Board of Education Policy 10.2. The Superintendent or the designee will be able to assist in this request.

VII.D.3. Revise Salary Schedule for Extra Duties
Rationale

Request that the board approve the attached revised Salary Schedule for Extra Duties to include A $25 payment for teachers who cover classrooms during their planning and a $30 payment to SRO's for athletic game coverage.

VII.E. Overnight/Out-of-State Trips
VII.E.1. 4th grade 4H Environmental Camp-HES
Rationale

Hearn Elementary 4th grade team is requesting to attend the North Central 4-H Center in Carlisle, KY. This trip will take place April 1-2, 2020. We are requesting permission to attend early so that we may let our parents make payments towards the trip in advance in the hope it will make it easier for them to afford the trip. The trip itself will cost between $55-60 per student. 

VII.E.2. Beta Convention- BMS
Rationale

Kentucky Jr. Beta Convention held in Louisville January 22-24.  Requesting permission to take 32 students to this annual convention to participate in academic and art competitions.  The cost of the trip is approximately $109 for each student.

VII.E.3. Y-Club Overnight Trip-FCHS
Rationale

FCHS Y-Club requests approval to travel to Louisville, Ky Dec. 5-7, 2019 to participate in the KYA Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Chaperone:  Greg Pelfrey (Sub to be paid from Y-Club activity funds)

19 FCHS Students will particpate

Cost per student:  $250, this includes registration for the conference and accomodations

Financial Aid is offered through YMCA for those that apply

Transportation:  District transportation is requested (to be paid from District Competition Funds)

VII.E.4. EKU Honors Band Overnight Trip-WHHS
Rationale

Select students have qualified for the EKU Honor Band.  Students will attend November 24-26th and stay at the Best Western in Richmond, KY.  Twenty eight students will attend and Stephanie Wallace will chaperone.  The boosters will pay for lodging and registration.  

VII.E.5. KUNA Overnight Field Trip-BMS
Rationale

Request permission for Bondurant students to attend the annual Kentucky United Nations academic competition sponsored by the YMCA.  The trip includes overnight stay from March 1-3 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville, KY.  Students will be accompanied on the trip by organization leaders Macy Johnson and Andrew McDonald

VII.F. School-Wide Fundraisers
VII.F.1. School Wide fundraiser-EMS
Rationale

The Mighty EMS PTSO would like to conduct a school wide fundraiser. The Mighty-a-thon would allow for students to pick something they are good at and solicit donations for the task. The PTSO would use the money raised by students to pay for teacher appreciation week, PBIS awards/incentives, and student events.  They have discussed this idea with school leadership and with your approval, will begin planning the structure of the event. 

 

 

VII.F.1.a. Mary Poppins Fundraisers- WRE
Rationale

Westridge Elementary requests the approval of two fundraisers to support the production of Mary Poppins.  

1)  Jar Guessing Game:  students/staff will buy chances to guess the number of items in a jar.  

2)  Santa Grams:  Students/staff can purchase "Santa Grams" to send to a friend.

 

All money will go to the drama account and will be used to offset the amount for sets.

VII.G. Shortened School Day BPE 2019
Rationale

We are recommending a shortened school day for a student.  The ARC has followed the appropriate procedure for requesting a shortened school day.

VII.H. Disposal of School Property
Rationale

The district has 9 automatic external defibrillators that are obsolete, 43 student desks, 2 file cabinets, and 6 small tables that need to be disposed of with the board's approval.   

VII.I. Free Youth Football Skills Camp, Spring 2020-FCHS
Rationale

The FCHS Football Coaching staff is looking to put on a Free skills camp for local elementary school children.  The purpose of the camp is to help children develop athletic skills to enhance their abilities in sports while creating a fun, family-like atmosphere.

All Elementary School Kids grades 1-5 are invited to participate

This will take place in the spring of 2020, likely April or May

It will take place at Elkhorn Elementary, Hearn Elementary and Peaks Mill Elementary

Again, there will be no cost to participants
