Approve Calendar and Disaster Day Waiver Request for 2008-2009
House Bill 322 provides an opportunity for school districts to submit a waiver for make up days related to the weather-related disasters during this school year (hurricane and ice storms).
Due to our late start this year in opening our new school and the days we were closed due to the ice storms in January and February, our current last day of school for students is (Monday) June 15.
In order to proceed with graduation on June 14 and to avoid poor attendance on Monday, June 15, we are requesting a waiver for June 15.
Our first request will be to use our current additional instructional time as the rationale for the waiver. We are submitting our instructional hours -1139 hours for elementary up to 1192 hours for middle and high schools (which well exceed the 1062 hour minimum).
Our second preference would be to add 30 minutes to 12 instructional days to replace June 15. These days would begin on May 4 and end on May 19.
The additional 30 minutes would be used for the following:
Elementary and Middle Schools: Response to Intervention or G/T activities
High School: Development and Implementation of Individual Learning Plans
