Summer Slide Prevention
We are excited to announce the district is providing a set of 5 books from Scholastic for every student in Preschool-5th grade to take home this summer! It is our goal to help combat the decline of reading skills often referred to as the "Summer Slide." This also includes books in Spanish for our English Learners! We are working to create a lifetime interest in reading, extend attention spans, aid in language development, strengthen imaginations, build comprehension, and create opportunities for one-on-one bonding time. In total, over 17,000 books will be given to our students in Franklin County! Many schools are also using this opportunity to incorporate special family events to increase parent and family engagement. We look forward to hearing how students and families incorporate reading into their summer activities!
