Rationale

The Franklin County Board of Education has provided time in its agenda for individuals to make comments. Comments to the Board will be allowed up to a maximum of three (3) minutes. The Board does not allow comments on any matter dealing with personnel issues. Kentucky law states specifically that personnel matters are the responsibility of the Superintendent. On all personnel matters, you should contact the Superintendent of Schools. No questions, comments, or decisions/action related to public comments will be made by Board members at this time, unless the specific topic is on the agenda; however, the Board will listen to the comments and/or suggestions which may lead to a discussion of same at a future meeting. If an individual wishes for the Board to discuss and/or take action on a particular issue, they must follow the procedures outlined in Franklin County Board of Education Policy 10.2. The Superintendent or the designee will be able to assist in this request.

IV.C. Award Propane Fueling System Bid
Rationale

The district did a RFP for a propane fueling system for the transportation department.  We received responses from AmeriGas and Ferrellgas.  Both companies offered comparable equipment and installation options.  AmeriGas offered propane for $1.379 per gallon.  Ferrellgas offered propane for $1.82 per gallon.  The Finance Director is recommending awarding the propane fueling system bid to AmeriGas.

VII.A. Flag Football Program- WHHS
Rationale

The Western Hills football team would like to request permission to run a spring flag football season for the west side elementary and Bondurant Middle schools.  The coaches would be the same as that at the high school and participants would be students enrolled in one of the elementary or middle schools.  This is done in an effort to help build interest in the sport.  All funding would come from the school football team and from registration to play.  

The cost would be $50 per player and that would include a shirt.  Location would be at WHHS Field.  This would be in the spring and run about 6-8 weeks.  

East side student interested would be allowed to participate.

The WHHS HOSA club would like to request permission to attend the 2019 HOSA Leadership Conference in Louisville, KY.  They would stay at the Crown Plaza.  Students and the club will pay lodging and registration fees.  School Transportation will be required, see attached.  One Chaperone and 19 students will be attending.  

VII.G.2. KUNA Convention- WHHS
Rationale

The Western Hills High School KUNA convention would like to request permission to attend the annual KUNA Convention located in Louisville, KY.  The convention is located at the Marriott downtown on March 17-19.  There will be 30 students attending and 2 chaperones.  Student will be paying for lodging and registration.  Three meals are provided.  Bus transportation to and from the event will be required.  Students will be competing during this conference.  

VII.G.3. 4th & 5th 4H camp trip, Carlisle, KY- WRE
Rationale

Westridge Elementary requests the approval of the fourth and fifth grade 4H camp trip in Carlisle, Kentucky on May 1st and 2nd.  The students will have hands on experiences directly related to NGSS standards.  The activities will also lend themselves to 21st century skills of communication, critical thinking, collaboration and creativity.

Rationale

FCHS AFJROTC requests to travel to Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Ohio to participate in a drill competition April 6, 2019.  This trip is not overnight.

VII.G.6. FCCTC Welding Class Trip
Rationale

FCCTC Welding is requesting permission to attend the 41st annual Midwest Welding Tournament.  This will be held in Indianapolis, IN on May 3rd, 2019.  There will be 5 students and 1 chaperone (Randy Shewmaker - Welding teacher) attending.  They are requesting school transportation to take them and pick them up. Entry fee and transportation will be covered through student funding.  The students and chaperone will be leaving around 7:00 am from CTC and returning that evening.  The students will be competing in the processes that they have learned here for a chance to win scholarships.  Attached is information on Competition and bus request for approval.
