FCS Team Members of the Month.

The Franklin County Board of Education has provided time in its agenda for individuals to make comments. Comments to the Board will be allowed up to a maximum of three (3) minutes. The Board does not allow comments on any matter dealing with personnel issues. Kentucky law states specifically that personnel matters are the responsibility of the Superintendent. On all personnel matters, you should contact the Superintendent of Schools. No questions, comments, or decisions/action related to public comments will be made by Board members at this time, unless the specific topic is on the agenda; however, the Board will listen to the comments and/or suggestions which may lead to a discussion of same at a future meeting. If an individual wishes for the Board to discuss and/or take action on a particular issue, they must follow the procedures outlined in Franklin County Board of Education Policy 10.2. The Superintendent or the designee will be able to assist in this request.

The district did a RFP for a propane fueling system for the transportation department.  We received responses from AmeriGas and Ferrellgas.  Both companies offered comparable equipment and installation options.  AmeriGas offered propane for $1.379 per gallon.  Ferrellgas offered propane for $1.82 per gallon.  The Finance Director is recommending awarding the propane fueling system bid to AmeriGas.

The Western Hills football team would like to request permission to run a spring flag football season for the west side elementary and Bondurant Middle schools.  The coaches would be the same as that at the high school and participants would be students enrolled in one of the elementary or middle schools.  This is done in an effort to help build interest in the sport.  All funding would come from the school football team and from registration to play.  

The cost would be $50 per player and that would include a shirt.  Location would be at WHHS Field.  This would be in the spring and run about 6-8 weeks.  

East side student interested would be allowed to participate.

Western Hills High School would like to request permission to enter into a contract with John's Lawn and Landscape company.  The contract would allow for this company to take care of all the seeding and fertilizing of 6 athletic facilities (football game field, practice field, baseball field, soccer field and softball field).  The money would come from the school athletic munis account on a monthly basis.  Attached is the contract.  

The finance director is recommending renewing the contract with Lifetouch National School Studios for school pictures.

The BMS/WHHS Youth Service Center would like permission to apply for the annual ASAP Mini-grant.  The grant is for $500 and is used primarily for Red Ribbon Week to help fund guest speakers, ribbons and drug awareness literature for our students.

Please approve the creation of an Extended School Services Coordinator (position up to 60 days) to provide leadership, expertise, technical and student support for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of effective Extended School Services and other support programs.

Request authorization to seek FT Emergency Certification for Ashton Bailey to teach elementary LBD.

The WHHS HOSA club would like to request permission to attend the 2019 HOSA Leadership Conference in Louisville, KY.  They would stay at the Crown Plaza.  Students and the club will pay lodging and registration fees.  School Transportation will be required, see attached.  One Chaperone and 19 students will be attending.  

The Western Hills High School KUNA convention would like to request permission to attend the annual KUNA Convention located in Louisville, KY.  The convention is located at the Marriott downtown on March 17-19.  There will be 30 students attending and 2 chaperones.  Student will be paying for lodging and registration.  Three meals are provided.  Bus transportation to and from the event will be required.  Students will be competing during this conference.  

Westridge Elementary requests the approval of the fourth and fifth grade 4H camp trip in Carlisle, Kentucky on May 1st and 2nd.  The students will have hands on experiences directly related to NGSS standards.  The activities will also lend themselves to 21st century skills of communication, critical thinking, collaboration and creativity.  

FCHS AFJROTC requests to travel to Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Ohio to participate in a drill competition April 6, 2019.  This trip is not overnight.

FCCTC Welding is requesting permission to attend the 41st annual Midwest Welding Tournament.  This will be held in Indianapolis, IN on May 3rd, 2019.  There will be 5 students and 1 chaperone (Randy Shewmaker - Welding teacher) attending.  They are requesting school transportation to take them and pick them up. Entry fee and transportation will be covered through student funding.  The students and chaperone will be leaving around 7:00 am from CTC and returning that evening.  The students will be competing in the processes that they have learned here for a chance to win scholarships.  Attached is information on Competition and bus request for approval.

FCHS AFJROTC requests to travel to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio 3/21/19 to tour the ASAF National Museum as required by the ASAF for Cadet Academics
