II. CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL OF BIDS RECEIVED FOR GIGABIT WIDE-AREA NETWORK SERVICE
Rationale

The bid for proposals for Gigabit Wide-Area network Service for our school district were published in the News-Enterprise on February 15, 2012 with bids to be received and opened in the Central Office at 8:30 a.m. on March 5, 2012.  A copy of said bid proposal is attached.

This bid was for fiber optic service to connect our schools and central office together and allow all classrooms and offices access to the Internet, email and our wide area network.  The original five-year contract expires on June 30, 2012 and must be renewed if we are to have the access and service we currently enjoy.

Only one bid was received for this service on March 5th  - from Brandenburg Telecom LLC (BBTEL).  BBtel has the original five-year contract and provided excellent service and support during this time.  Their network speed has been as advertised and their maintenance support has been timely and accurate.

The contract is for $2500 per month.  This is almost the same price as during the original five year period, but includes one additional building (Panther Academy), so the price per month is 17% lower than the original contract. This $2500 monthly charged will be heavily discounted by Universal Service Fund (an FCC organization) and will actually only cost the district approximately $750 per month.
