II. CONSTRUCTION
II.A. PANTHER ACADEMY CONSTRUCTION AND HELMWOOD HEIGHTS RENOVATION CONSTRUCTION UPDATES
Rationale

Mr. Jeff Wells, with Alliance Corporatioin will give an update regarding the Panther Adacemy Construction Project and Helmwood Heights Renovation Project

II.B. DISCUSSION OF POTENTIAL CHANGE ORDERS FOR THE PANTHER ACADEMY CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
Rationale

These are Proposals, the Change Orders will be presented for approval at the November 21, 2011 Board Meeting.


PR # 26 – Remove an existing wall at the existing building to make one large room – Approved to perform T & M.

PR # 27 – Re-locate proposed location of light fixture to place outside the paving area. - $554.79.

PR # 28 – Add lighting to existing school signs - $11,661.09

PR # 30 – New fixtures, partitions, and accessories for the existing restrooms - $25,001.37

 

Additional overlay and remediation of existing parking lots at the E-town Preschool – We received a price; however, Alliance needs to review the scope of work more thoroughly with the contractor before presenting for approval.  We will send out the price prior to the meeting for your review.  This will be a very sizable change order but at least a portion of this will definitely need to be done. 

II.C. DISCUSSION OF POTENTIAL CHANGE ORDERS FOR THE HELMWOOD HEIGHTS RENOVATION PROJECT

These are Proposals, the Change Orders will be presented for approval at the November 21, 2011 Board Meeting.





PR # 16 – Door and Building Security - $15,911.00

  • This was already discuss and approved by the Board; however, the price presented was $14,461.  Since this time, the contractor brought to my attention that on his quote he had a breakout price of $1,450 to add the gym motion sensors and contacts.  I don’t know why he broke this out but it was missed in the number presented. 

PR # 19 – Relocate existing hand dryers and add quieter ones at the new gang restrooms $2,027.61

PR # 20 – Sidewalk and grading in the courtyard area connecting the gym to Phase IV classroom wing.  - $4,209.33

PR # 21 – Re-locate the light pole outside the Cafeteria per Owner’s request - $4,313.24 plus asphalt patching

PR # 22 – Phase III Sidewalks at the front of the building.  This provides a large bus drop off area and connects the different phases of the building with sidewalks. - $19,053.90

PR # 23 – Additional stage data outlets per Owner’s request - $2,115.00

SCO # 23 – Additional fencing around Mechanical units at the Cafeteria - $3,999.00

SCO # 21 – Paint drywall header in the Cafeteria that was added - $557.52

SCO # 25 – Tilt Kettle Change from tilt kettle requested to be bid by contractor to a model that the Owner – Deduct ($154.00)

SCO # 26 – Provide a different 3 compartment sink with the sink sizes preferred by the Owner - $8,491.00

SCO # 27 – Add Serving line lights per Owner’s request- $3,444.00

Arnold’s Engineering – Additional testing services unsuitable soils found in parking lots of both schools. - $760.00

II.D. ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Rationale

Mr. Bob Kelly with Studio LC, Architects, LLC will give a construction update on the Elizabethtown Roof Replacement Project

II.E. CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL OF CHANGE ORDERS FOR THE ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL ROOF REPLACEMENT PROJECT
III. CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL OF CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE CONTRACT FOR THE 2012-2013 SCHOOL YEAR
Rationale

 We have an opportunity for our district to implement the Chinese Language into our high school and middle school curriculum for the 2012-2013 school year.  Several school districts in our educational cooperative (GRREC) are participating or going to participate in this opportunity.  A survey of students at EHS showed that they have more than enough interest to support the class.  It is important to note that the contract constitutes one school year, however another one-year contract can be signed for the following year.     

IV. CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL OF THE LOCAL PLANNING COMMITTEE
IV.A. NOMINATION OF A BOARD MEMBER TO SERVE ON THE LOCAL PLANNING COMMITTEE
Rationale

Pursuant to the LPC process, a member of the Elizabethtown Board of Education must serve on the Local Planning Committee.

IV.B. CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL OF COMMUNITY AND BOARD MEMBER REPRESENTATIVES TO SERVE ON THE LOCAL PLANNING COMMITTEE
Rationale

The Elizabethtown Independent Schools’ District Facility Plan is to be reviewed, revised, etc. by April 1, 2012.  Pursuant to 702 KAR 1:001 “The Kentucky School Facilities Planning Manual”, our district is in the process of developing the Local Planing Committee. School districts shall develop a local facility plan once every four years in accordance with the schedule set by the chief state school officer.  The State Board for Elementary and Secondary Education shall approve the facility plan submitted by the district upon the recommendation of the chief state school officer

The Local Planning Committee is to be made up of a maximum of twenty (20) members and a minimum of ten (10) members to include the Superintendent, a parent, teacher and building  administrator representative from each school, a Central Office staff member, two (2) community/business leaders, one (1) Board member and a local building/zoning official.  The parent, teacher and buildilng-level administrator are selected at the building – level (as per the direction of the planning manual).

 The required advertisement for the business/community leader was published in the News-Enterprise on September 11, 2011 with letters of interest to be received in the Central Office no later than September 30, 2011.

We received interest from business/community members:

Mr. Anthony Slone,  Mr. Mike Harmon, and Mr. Rick Games

 

Pursuant to the LPC process, the board is now directed to approve two community/business representatives that expressed an interest in serving on this committee.  Further, pursuant to the regulations/guidelines, a member of the Board will also be selected to serve on the Local Planning Committee.

V. CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL OF FIELD TRIP REQUEST
Rationale

Mr. Steve Smallwood, Principal at Elizabethtown High School, is seeking approval for the EHS Band to travel to Bever Creek (Ohio) High School to participate in the Mid-States Championships November 4-5, 2011.
