Pursuant to EIS Board Policy 01.45 Board Meeting Agenda, as part of the official agenda for each regular board meeting, the Superintendent shall prepare a consent agenda of routine business items.  Prior to the approval of the agenda, the members of the board may request to "pull" any item from the consent agenda and place the item on the action agenda for further discussion and review.

VI. CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION DECLARING TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
Rationale

Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated the first full week of May, from May 8 through May 12, 2023 with National Teacher Appreciation Day slated for Tuesday, May 9. 

Below is a resolution declaring Teacher Appreciation Week May 8-12 and Teacher Appreciation Day, May 9, 2023.  

This resolution will be presented to each school building in appreciation for the services and many contributions of our teachers.

RESOLUTION

 

 

TEACHER   APPRECIATION   WEEK

         

WHEREAS,  America  depends  upon  successful schools to meet the needs of every child, and

         

WHEREAS,  America's schools are experiencing a transformation in how teaching and learning occurs, and

 

WHEREAS,  Kentucky  has implemented the most dramatic reform of schools ever legislated in America, and

         

WHEREAS,  teachers  are  challenged daily to implement reform by reaching  out  to  every student regardless of ability, interest in  learning,  social  or  economic  background, handicap, race, religion, creed, or ethnic  origin,  and  to  provide  the assistance   and   guidance   necessary  for  full  intellectual development, and

 

WHEREAS,  each  of  us  can  recall  the personal attention that teachers  gave  to  us as we made important decisions during the formative years of our lives, and

      

WHEREAS,  teachers  are  molding lives and shaping the future of our next generation, and

       

WHEREAS,  teachers in the Elizabethtown Independent Schools are among the best in the nation and deserve the deepest respect and admiration of our citizens.

       

NOW, THEREFORE  BE  IT RESOLVED that the Elizabethtown Board of Education recognizes May 8-12, 2023, as Teacher Appreciation Week and May 9, 2023 as National Teacher Appreciation Day. This is a time for public recognition of the contributions provided by the teacher toward the development of this community and for the influence of the teacher upon the lives of each of us.

VII.F. Approve Bid Proposal for Student Accident Insurance for 2023-2024
Rationale

For the past several years the Elizabethtown Board of Education has provided a total student accident insurance policy thru R.J. Roberts, Inc.  This policy is a secondary policy that reimburses parents for all "out of pocket" medical expenses, including deductibles.  Said policy also provides coverage for all the students involved in all school/district sponsored activities, as well as coverage for athletes during off-season training and out-of-state trips.  This student accident plan is endorsed by KSBA and KHSAA.  KHSAA provides catastrophic insurance for athletes for 10 years from the date of injury.

The cost to renew this program (including preschool) for 2023-2024 school year to include $7,500,000 Catastrophic Limit is:  Cost of policy $39,538.60

VII.J. Approve Early Graduation Applications Due to Hardship
Rationale

EIS board policy 98.1132 states "Students who experience extreme health or economic hardship may apply for assistance with graduation requirements for hardship reasons".  Attached are Hardship Graduation for Early Graduation requesting approval for early graduation.  These students meet all of the requirements for early graduation.  Mrs. Bush has reviewed these applications and is recommending board approval.

VII.K. Approve/Accept Bids Received for Window Screens for School Vestibules
Rationale

BACKGROUND:  Information pertaining to window screens for school vestibules was published in the News-Enterprise on March 2, 2023, with all bids to be in the Central Office by Wednesday March 22, 2023.
 
Only one bid was submitted.
 
RECOMMENDATION:  We recommend approval to purchase of vestibule window screens from the BSN SPORTS. for Panther Academy, Morningside Elementary, and Helmwood Elementary.

On March 14, 2023 the district advertised for architectural services for the T.K. Stone Renovation/Addition Construction Project.  The district received three proposals.

Recommendation:  Approve/Accept Rosstarrant Architects to serve as the Architectural Firm for the T.K. Stone construction project.

IX.B. Consideration of Approval of the Contract for Construction Management Services for the TKS Renovation/Addition Construction Project
Rationale
