IV. RECOGNITION OF GUESTS AND SPECIAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
IV.A. Students of the Month
Rationale

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL      LANDON SANFORD

The EHS student of the month for April is Landon Sanford.  Landon is a senior at EHS who has excelled academically and athletically.  By the time Landon graduates, he will have completed seven advanced placement courses, six honors courses, and four dual credit courses, with the potential of earning more than fifteen college credit hours.   In addition, he is an active member of the EHS Boys Basketball Team and the EHS Lacrosse Club Team, Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Students (currently serving as president), Pep Club, and the Theater Guild.  After graduation, Landon plans to attend Western Kentucky University where he was accepted into the Mahurin Honors College.  He plans to double major in Biology and Spanish with a career goal of becoming a surgeon.

Here are some comments from his teachers:

Mr. Ernst (English Teacher):  Landon is an excellent student. He is open-minded, hardworking, and willing to ask questions when needed. He is supportive of his classmates, and is always a positive influence on his peers. Great work, Landon!

Mr. Yates (AP Government Teacher):  Landon is a bright spot of my day during my 3rd period class. He is always engaged, talkative, and tries to be funny, but sometimes it sounds like a "dad joke." It really has been a pleasure having him this year...a great young man with a bright future!

Mr. Hayes (AP Calculus Teacher):  Landon is such a joy to have in class. He is a hardworking student who also brings joy and entertainment to the classroom. Precalculus and Calculus are very challenging subjects and it is easy for students to get discouraged during these courses. Landon's personality brings a welcome reprieve to the course. You never know when he is going to show up with a bowl of microwaved brownies in class. One of my favorite memories from virtual classes was Landon being stuck in google meets and his lighthearted way of asking if I could kick him out of the meet. Jokes aside, Landon is an excellent student who I am sure will be successful no matter what he chooses to do.

EHS is proud to recognize Landon Sanford as the April Student of the Month.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL     KATE BRAEGER

Our TKS student of the month for April is Kate Braeger.  Kate is a straight A student whose favorite subject is math.  She participates in cross country, swimming, and is running track for the first time as a distance runner.  In her spare time, Kate enjoys hanging out with her family.  She has five siblings, she says that everyone is surprised her family is that big.

Pearman

I was glad to learn that Kate had received this honor.  She is a very kind, hardworking student who treats both adults and peers respectfully.  If she continues on the path she has started, any future community will be grateful to have her as a citizen.  Congratulations, Kate!

Johnson

Kate is a wonderful candidate for student of the month. She is extremely hard working, helpful and kind to others.  Kate is a great role model for others and always brings positivity to the classroom. She is an absolute joy to have in class, and I can always count on her to be prepared, and excited to learn. Congratulations!

Lutz

I have Kate for Algebra 1 and she is an excellent math student and leader in my classroom. She works extremely hard, has a great attitude, and is eager to learn and improve each day. Kate is a great representative of TK Stone and our school system.

Kate is looking forward to attending EHS so she can take electives like AP geography and honors classes.  After graduation, she would like to attend West Point and possibly go into pre-med or become a dietician. She has a bright future ahead of her. Congratulations to Kate Braeger, TKS April Student of the Month.

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY                GREYSON HUGHES

It is our pleasure to recognize Greyson Hughes as Morningside Elementary School’s Student of the Month for April 2022.  Greyson is in Mrs. Fowler’s class.

Greyson has a great attitude and strives to do his best at all times.  He comes to school with a smile and has a positive outlook.  He has a wonderful work ethic and never gives up even when he’s challenged.  His hard work and determination has made him a role model to the students in his class and grade. Others look at him for guidance and as an example because he is able to follow the Guidelines to Success at all times.  He always goes above and beyond in anything that he does.

Greyson is also a great teacher helper.  He often is the first student to raise their hand and offer assistance. He takes great pride in his classroom and school and encourages his classmates to keep the room neat and organized.

Greyson stands out as an excellent friend to everyone.  He has the ability to connect with each of his classmates regardless of their differences.  He has become a peer mentor to the ELL students in the class and helps them navigate classroom tasks.  His shining smile brightens everyone’s day.

His ability to make good decisions and his thoughtfulness are a few reasons that make Greyson so special.

Congratulations Greyson.  We are honored to present him with the Morningside Elementary School’s April 2022 Student of the Month.  We are all very proud of you!

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS                  MEGAN PLOETZ

Megan Ploetz radiates joy wherever she goes. Her joy and enthusiasm for learning is contagious.  She smiles and passes her happiness on to all of her classmates and teachers. She transforms the entire atmosphere of the classroom when she enters it.

This is Megan's first year attending Helmwood Heights.  She is a military child who has seen many different schools in her lifetime. She has spent many years overseas and is used to adapting.  Despite the changes and transitions into a new school and with making new friends, Megan just fit.  She is conscientious, consistent, and calm. Following rules and common sense are important to her.  It is not uncommon to see her standing up for what is right and lending a hand to anyone who needs it.  Megan can roll with the punches and has a sweet spunky sense of humor.  She is very determined to use integrity in her schoolwork and is always focused on the task at hand. Megan is an exceptional student, and she is also an avid and emerging volleyball talent and tennis player.

Earlier this year, the 4th graders engaged in a writing assignment about being a bucket filler.  A bucket filler is someone who says or does nice things for other people.  Some kids struggled to  come up with ways to fill others’ buckets, but Megan did not hesitate. She quickly had suggestion after suggestion. Megan has a beautiful heart and is so willing to show it.  She  is bright and kind and has an encouraging word for everyone. She not only has an addictive personality, but she is a confident and enthusiastic student. Her work shows her to be a creative and perceptive thinker.  She takes pride in her work, and it is obvious.

When asked to describe Megan, her classmates said that she is sweet, kind, brave and funny.  They also said that she is generous and chill as well as beautiful, smart, and a great friend to everyone.  Megan is also very helpful in the classroom.  She always tidies up my room whenever she sees something out of place.

Megan checks all the boxes in meeting Helmwood’s guidelines for success.  From the first day of fourth grade and her first day at Helmwood Heights, Megan embodied the role of student, friend, and role model. She is the perfect candidate for student of the month, and the entire fourth grade is so proud of her!

PANTHER ACADEMY                     SKYLAR REED

Skylar Reed is a small girl with a big future ahead of her.  She is hardworking, intelligent, determined, helpful and kind.  She possesses so many amazing qualities it was an easy choice for her to be the student of the month for Panther Academy.

From the very first day of school, Skylar has demonstrated the first of our school guidelines, respect.  She was and still is a great listener to not only her teachers but peers alike.  She is respectful during whole group instruction and loves to work in small groups during stations or kagan activities.

Responsibility is the second school guideline we teach to our students at Panther Academy.  Skylar is not only responsible when it comes to completing classroom tasks she is also responsible when it comes to homework assignments.  She reads her baggy books daily and has already mastered reading all of her kindergarten sight words and is very close to spelling them all independently as well.  This is a testament to not only Skylar but to her parents too.  It is very evident that the importance of education and responsibility is being instilled in her at home.

Cooperation is the third guideline we cover as a school body.  Skylar works so well with each and every student and teacher in our room.  She is flexible and willing to work with anyone on any task from writing, solving math problems to building leprechaun traps.  She shares her ideas and opinions while also taking others into consideration.  She is patient when her partner may be struggling and has been seen on many occasions coaching them instead of just giving them the answer.

Finally and probably the most important guideline that she follows and displays daily, is kindness.  Sklyar is loved by her peers and teachers alike because she always shows kindness in all situations.  She is helpful and always has a smile on her face.  She shows kindness to friends who seem sad and helpful to those that may be struggling.

Skylar truly is a special person and one I am so blessed to have been able to work with in my class.   Her love for learning and others is infectious.  She has been a blessing to not only her classmates but to any and all adults that have been fortunate enough to work with her this year.  I can not wait to see her grow in the coming years and to see what she becomes.  Her future is very bright and we can all take comfort in knowing she is our future not only as an Elizabethtown Panther but a productive member in our community as well.

Rationale

As social media platforms have grown, the need for a dedicated staff member charged with developing, planning, organizing and implementing communication and public relations services for the district has grown.  At the same time, the need for additional work in the area of personnel has increased due to staffing shortages.  Along with creating a part time Communication specialist position, the current position "Director of Personnel and Public Relations" job description needs to be revised to eliminate public relations duties.  Separating these duties between two positions will allow for higher quality results as well as a decreased contract for the Director of Personnel position from 240 days to 220.

IX.C. Approve Early Release Friday Schedule for 2022-2023
Rationale

Mrs. Bush will discuss the early release schedule for the 2022-2023 school year.

In order to continue the faculty and staff work needed to accelerate post pandemic student learning, a need continues to exist for collaborative professional learning in regard to reviewing and analyzing student achievement data.  The Early Release Fridays in 21/22 allowed for much needed professional development for EIS staff on topics that focused on strategies and best practices upon returning to full time in person learning.  Now, the focus for the upcoming school year will be "implementation" in relation to formative student assessment data.  This need allows for fewer early release Fridays to occur with the dates strategically placed after the completion of assessments.  The proposed dates are as follows:

Friday, September 2

Friday, October 14

Friday, November 11

Friday, January 27

Friday, February 24

X. INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS
X.A. Transition Opportunities and Partnerships
Rationale

Part of our vision and mission of EIS is to move students forward and that is what our Community Work Transition Program and Project Search do for our students who have special abilities.  Their goal and focus are to teach our students to have skills needed to be successful after graduation and employment. A critical piece of this is building partnerships within our community in hopes to provide better opportunities for our students who have special abilities.

We started these programs in the 2019-2020 school year.  Even during our Covid years, we saw such value that we were one of the very few school districts to find a way to continue teaching our students pre-employment and transition skills.

Speaking will be Karie Pettus our Employment Specialist with our Community Work Transition Program and Brandy Bodnar our Teacher at Project Search.  Both of these ladies will share a presentation of how their programs work and the community partnerships and opportunities they have built.

We will also recognize Damon Corbett for his success at Project Search after we give our presentation.  Damon has been a Panther since K and has been a part of  Project Search as an intern and is now also employed at HealthCare in Radcliff.
