IV. RECOGNITION OF GUESTS AND SPECIAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
IV.A. Students of the Month
Rationale

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL                              MICHAELA SHOULTS

The EHS Student of the Month for March is Michaela Shoults.  Michaela is a senior at EHS who will have completed nine advanced placement courses, eight honors courses, and two dual credit courses earning more than 16 college credit hours in total by the time she graduates.  In addition to her excellence in the classroom, Michaela has also been involved in a wide variety of extracurricular activities.  She is a member of the Beta Club and pep Club.  Michaela has also participated in Hardin County Teen Court, Hardin County Youth Salute, Hardin memorial hospital health Explorers Program, Women in Science and is an active member in her church.  She has also spent some time volunteering at Warm Blessings Community Kitchen.  After graduation, Michaela plans to attend the University of Kentucky, where she was accepted into Honors College, and major in Biology to become a science researcher.

Here are some comments from her teachers:

Mr Ernst(English Teacher):  Michaela is an excellent student, and a pretty awesome person in general.  She’s a leader in the classroom, and is a positive influence on others.  She cares about being successful, and is willing to work as hard as necessary to get there. Great job, Michaela!

Mrs. Heslop (Anatomy & Physiology Teacher):  Michaela is an inquisitive student and is a joy to have in class.  She is extremely helpful to her peers while working in groups.

Mr. parsons:  Michaela is an amazing young woman.  I have had the privilege to have her as a student during her Freshman year and now she is my Teacher Aide for her Senior year.  To witness her growth and maturity over the years is incredible.  She has always been an extremely hard worker and now to see her go out of her way to help these Freshman is awesome.  I have no doubt she will be very successful after she leaves EHS and can accomplish anything the world puts in front of her!  Congratulations and Well Deserved!

T.K.  STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL                      REANNE DAUGHERTY

Our TKS student of the month for March is Louis Reanne Daugherty.  Reanne is an honor student whose favorite subject is science because she enjoys hands-on learning. Reanne participates in archery and student council during school; outside of school she enjoys running and exercising, video games.

Schmidt

Rea is one of my most respectful & responsible students.  She adds value to every class and is never a distraction for others to learn - which is refreshing!

Rea has a maturity level that is to be desired by most other middle schoolers.  Rea is always on task and treats her classmates and teachers with respect.

Rea is a great example of "excellence" we expect in ETown Ind Schools.

Pearman

I was happy to learn that Rea received this recognition.  She is a respectful, diligent student.  Her hard work is evident in her studies; the respect she shows toward others extends to her teachers and peers.  If she continues on the path she's on, any future community will be grateful to have her.  Congratulations, Rea.

Weaver

Rea comes in every day enthusiastic and ready to get to work. She’s a team player, but can also fly solo if she needs to. Whenever given an assignment or a task, there is no doubt 200% effort will be given by her. I appreciate her kindness to other students and respect to adults; her selflessness; and her “never give up” attitude. Rea is genuine, and you don’t see that quality very often in people. I’m honored to be her teacher.

Reanne is looking forward to attending EHS to take new classes and being in a larger environment.. After graduation, she plans to possibly get EMT training. She’s just not sure. . Congratulations to Reanne Daugherty, TKS March Student of the Month.

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL                   ANDIE BERRY

It is with great pleasure that Morningside Elementary recognizes Andie Berry as the Student of the Month for March, 2022.  Andie Berry is a student in Mrs. Lynn’s first grade class.

Mrs. Lynn, Andie’s homeroom teacher, says, “When you think of a first grade student, the first word that comes to mind isn’t often wise.  However, if you met Andie Berry that is exactly what you would think.  When you talk to Andie you could easily forget she is 7 (and a half as she likes to say).  Andie speaks and thinks with wisdom beyond her years.  I have never heard her mutter a word that is unkind, she is truly a friend to all.  Andie is a natural leader.  She is one of those students who you can trust to lead and be an example even when no one is watching.  Andie is also respectful to her peers and her teachers, she always has a positive attitude, and is a great role model.  Being Andie’s first grade teacher has truly been a pleasure and and she has set a high standard for other first graders to come.”

Mrs. Willett, Morningside’s art teacher, says, “I simply love Andie.  She is always cheerful, helpful to her peers and myself.  She always comes to class eager to be creative and try new things!”

Mrs. Correll, an assistant in Andie’s class, says “Andie is always kind, but goes above and beyond and looks for ways to be kind to brighten others’ days.  She gives her full effort in each activity and, even at this young age, embodies a tradition of excellence that EIS endeavors to instill in our students.”

Andie, I am so proud of you and could not think of another student more deserving to represent the first grade student of the month than you.  Congratulations sweet girl on being awarded Morningside’s March Student of the Month!

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL                    LAEKYN RITTER

Laekyn Ritter is Helmwood’s Student of the Month for a very good reason.  She is the embodiment of what it means to be an Elizabethtown Panther.  Her respect, responsibility, cooperation, and drive to be her very best make her a shining role model for all the students in fifth grade and in our school.

When it comes to respect, Laekyn goes far beyond just using her manners.  She treats everyone with kindness, but it doesn’t stop there.  She is respectful of the procedures in our building, respectful of the learning that is taking place around her, and respectful of herself and her goals in life.

Laekyn takes the job of being a student very seriously.  Her dedication and sense of responsibility stand out among her peers.  She sets goals for herself and works hard to achieve them.  She goes above and beyond in completing her assignments and looks for new ways that she can grow and learn.  She loves writing and is even currently working on writing a book!

Cooperation is also a factor that makes Laekyn a fantastic student and classmate.  She always does what is asked of her, but it is more than just that.  She cooperates with everyone in the class.  She is willing to work with and help all the other students in the class.  She puts forth her best effort, asks for help when she needs it, and gives help to all others around her on a daily basis.  She is a learning partner that everyone is glad to work with.

Laekyn is always challenging herself and setting high goals for her learning.  Her work is always neat, complete, and on time.  She keeps track of her grades on Infinite Campus and addresses any problems that might arise with maturity and responsibility.  All of these characteristics, routines, and habits that she has built for herself will take her far in life, and I am so happy that I have had the opportunity to learn and grow as a teacher this year by having Laekyn as my student.

PANTHER ACADEMY                                                      LATAIRA JACKSON

Mrs. Shilts shared that Lataira Jackson is the perfect child for the student of the month.  She is a star Kindergartner and excels in many areas.  First and foremost she is kind.  She is friends with every student in our class and is welcoming to those she doesn’t know.  She tries to make every person she meets smile.

Lataira is also a hard worker.  She is an avid reader and writer and is proficient in math.  She is always looking for ways to extend her learning and was recently accepted into our gifted and talented program.

Not only does Lataira excel in the classroom, but she also excels on the basketball court.  She attended the Lady Panther basketball little league this year and was a standout player.  Many of the current high school players spoke of how dedicated Lataira was on the court, but also how they loved her as a person.

Overall, Lataiara is very deserving of this award.  It is an honor to be her teacher, and I know I will hear her name being praised throughout the years in the classroom and on the court.  I can’t wait to watcher her grow!

VI.E. Approve Boys Soccer Program at T.K. Stone Middle School
Rationale

Ms. Dawne Swank, Principal at T.K. Stone Middle School and Mr. Corey Yates, EHS Soccer Coach are requesting approval to seek interest and start a Boys Soccer Program at T.K. Stone Middle School.

The practice bermuda facility would be the primary training ground for the middle school team.  NO facilities at T.K. Stone would be utilized to carry out the training and match environment.

Through using school announcements, word of mouth, social media and email distribution, the EHS coaching staff would gain interest in student-athletes from 5th - 8th grades to join the program.  A certified Level 1 volunteer and EHS assistant coach would train and facilitate match environments for the squads created by the interest shown from each district school (T.K. stone, Morningside and Helmwood)

The EHS Boys Soccer Program would incur all financial costs in the first year of the program (2022) to ensure participation, opportunity, and freedom from any and all obstacles holding back a student-athlete from participating.  Each player would be given a home/away kit for the season from training and match purposes.
