Students of the Month – February 2022

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL                   LOGAN HELTON

The EHS student of the month for February is Logan Helton. Logan is an exceptional student and athlete who described himself as solicitous, principled and dependable. Logan holds a 3.9 GPA while serving as the team captain for Cross Country and Track and Field. Logan has participated in FCS, Beta Club, KYA and Club Soccer. Logan’s Honors and Awards include making it to State all four years of Cross Country and three years for Track. He has had multiple region and conference medals as well. Logan recently placed 4th in the Robotics competition for Beta. Logan loves to hang out with his friends and run at the lake. When asked to describe an experience that has been of significant importance to him, Logan described being at church camp, where he was able to work students through what it truly means to be a Christian and watching them get baptized. Logan plans to attend Murray State University to study physics with the hopes of becoming an Astrophysicist or Astronomer.

Here are some comments from his teachers and coach:

Mr. Breunig (Cross Country Coach) - “Logan Helton is an outstanding young man, who is not only an impressive student and community member, but an integral member of the boys Cross Country and track teams. Throughout his four years of Cross Country, Logan has consistently been one of our top runners, earning a bid to compete in the Class 2A state meet all four years of high school. Although Logan is a well-mannered and friendly young man, he is fiercely competitive. In fact, Logan’s biggest struggle in practice is not going out too hard! Through his high school career, Logan has maintained a rolling 3.93 GPA while taking seven of the most difficult AP courses including AP Physics, AP Calculus, and AP Biology. His work ethic is so impressive, especially when taking into account all that Logan balances: school, community and extracurricular work, and athletics. Logan is very dedicated to his church community, volunteering in many areas. During the week, he somehow balances his cross country and track practices with extracurricular activities, including Beta Club, Pep Club, KYA, and FCA. Logan is an outstanding selection as the EHS student of the month.”

Mrs. Mills (Engineering Capstone) “Logan is an outstanding student and mentor to his peers.  He never hesitates to help his peers with anything they might need.  He is a member of the BETA Robotics team that placed 4th in the state.  No matter what I might ask him to do whether it is to laser engrave something for me or to help another student, he smiles and accepts the challenge.  I am so happy to be his teacher this year.  He is truly deserving of this award.”

Mr. Ernst (AP Literature) “Logan is an excellent young man. He's a hardworking, capable, and engaged student. Logan's sense of humor makes every class more enjoyable. I'm glad to be his teacher.”

Mr. Hayes (AP Calculus/Track Coach) “Logan is an outstanding student who brings joy to the classroom. He is a fun student to have in class. He is works hard and it shows. He is a joy to work with both as his teacher and his coach.”

February TKS Student of the Month

Molly Durbin

Molly Durbin is TK’s February Student of the Month. Molly’s favorite subject is math.  She is also a great athlete and plays basketball, soccer, and volleyball.  In her free time, Molly volunteers at church, enjoys pick up basketball games,  hanging with her siblings, and attending sporting events.

Pearman

I'm excited to learn that Molly received the honor of Student of the Month.  She completely deserves such a recognition; she is an honest, hardworking, and respectful young person who does her best to excel in all things she attempts.  Any community will be fortunate to have her as a citizen in the future if she continues the path she is currently traveling.  Congratulations, Molly!

Chadwick

Molly is such a bright and cheerful student. She is responsible and not only takes care of her own learning, but helps those around her who need help. Molly is also a good friend. I have seen her assist friends in class and treat people kindly and respectfully. She works hard and makes sure all of her efforts are to the best of her ability. I can specifically remember one time when we had a quiz and she created a study guide on a google doc and shared it with whoever asked for it. She is a treasure to have in class and I feel so lucky to be her teacher!

Schmidt

Molly is a positive personality in my class.

She is on task, focused and always willing to learn.  She ask good questions which enriches the learning environment.

Molly is a joy to have in my class!

Johnson

Molly's academic accomplishments are obvious, but it's what she does beyond her class work that makes her unique. She lights up a room when she walks in, regularly having a positive outlook. Her willingness to help her classmates better understand the content, her ability to make everyone laugh and smile, her confidence and consistent request to be challenged. All of these things increase the morale in my class, and it is truly wonderful to be a part of. I can't wait to see how she grows and the impact she has in her community. Congratulations, Molly!

Molly is excited about getting up to EHS to be with her brother Trey and reunite with her former friends from TKS.  She’s excited to meet new teachers and play high school sports.  After graduation, Molly wants to attend an out of state college and go into health sciences and/or biology. Congratulations to Molly Durbin, TKS February Student of the Month.

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY             KENNADY SALSMAN

I was so happy to hear that Kennady had been selected as Helmwood’s Student of the Month!  She is very deserving of this title.  When I think of what a model Panther student looks like, I think of Kennady!  She is respectful, cooperative, and responsible.  Kennady is such a wonderful young lady!  She sets a good example for others in the classroom and is always willing to help out any way that she can.  I can always count on her!  Kennady constantly shows integrity by trying to do the right think no matter if anyone is looking or not.  Her kindness and her huge heart make me the most proud of all.  She is a friend to everyone!  Kennady works hard on any activity that we are doing in the classroom and loves to learn!  Congratulations, Kennady!  I am so proud to be your teacher!

   Mrs. Davenport wrote…

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY                          ANI MORTON

The 5th grade team at Morningside is very pleased and proud to have Ani Morton as our Student of the Month.  Ani is a model student at all things.  She excels at all things academic and is always working toward excellence.  Ani has been selected as a member of the Junior Beta Club at MES and she was also chosen as a member of the MES Academic Team.  She has received the Panther Paw Award numerous times since she has been at Morningside beginning in the 1st grade.  Ani’s ability to lead both academically and socially sets her apart from the majority of her classmates.  She is a natural leader and her leadership qualities will allow her to shine in the future and take her far in life.  We are all excited and eager to see how she will advance in the future here in the EIS school system and beyond.  We are eager to see her explore space as she pursues her interests in astronomy as an astronaut or a person that works at NASA.  Once again, we are excited and pleased to have Ani Morton as the Student of the Month for 5th grade.

PANTHER ACADEMY                                        MERRICK OWENS

I have been waiting years…5 1/2 years to be exact to have Merrick Owens in my class.  I had her oldest sister who is now a sophomore and her brother who is in 6th grade a few years later…Funny story that she okay’d for me to share but the morning of Foster’s first day, Momma dropped her sweet boy off and was in labor with Merrick.  After coffee and a nail appointment, Momma texted me before school had dismissed that she had a beautiful baby girl named Merrick!  Needless to say, how excited I was to know I would have another amazing Owens child.  Merrick has been so worth the wait!

If I had to give Merrick a nickname, it would be Mini Mrs. Pinkham.  I am confident that if we had a sub shortage and I need to miss that she could fill my shoes for a day!  She is such a strong role model not only following our school and classroom guidelines but is always willing to politely talk to another child if they are struggling with procedures or having a tough time.  She gently reminds the student and ends with a hug!  She finishes her work pretty fast and somehow “knows” if a child is in need of help and will go help explain directions or I’ve even heard her help the child “solve” whatever the problem is…she does this and will not “give an answer”, she has a natural tendency to “teach”.  I have also witnessed Miss Merrick see a student who might need a little extra attention or love on a particular day and ask me if she can invite that student to sit with her or if she can sit with them.  She has such a nurturing compassionate heart.

She has a huge love for learning and such a fun sprite!  She is so eager to please me and always works so hard to be better than the day before.  If she comes back to me in 12 years after graduation and tells me that she has decided to be a Kindergarten, I will not be a bit surprised!  Merrick is so very worthy of being Panther Academy’s January Student of the Month.
