IV. RECOGNITION OF GUESTS AND SPECIAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
IV.A. Students of the Month
Rationale

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL          GAGE SONDERGARD

The EHS student of the month for February is Gage Sondergard.  Gage is a senior at EHS who is a life-long Panther, having attended EIS schools since kindergarten.  Gage is a member of the boys basketball team and enjoys hunting, fishing, and watching sports with his friends in his down time.  He is employed at Dixie Yard Works and also officiates baseball and softball games.  In addition, Gage has excelled in the classroom, taking numerous honors and dual credit classes.  By the time he graduates, Gage will have completed 35 college credit hours.  This year, Gage is participating in the SEEK program at ECTC in the area of Air Conditioning Technology, which means he attends ECTC in the morning and then takes his English and math class in the afternoon at EHS.  After high school, Gage plans to work as an electrician and later on pursue a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management.

Here are some comments from his teachers:

Ms. Thompson (Senior English Teacher):  I have been privileged to have Gage as an English student for two years both in junior English and Dual Credit English. Gage is one of the most outstanding, dedicated, hard-working, kind, thoughtful students that I have ever had in class. I have been very impressed with Gage's level of academic achievement, even during the pandemic. He's dedicated to his learning, to his friends, to his teammates, and to his family. I am so glad that EHS is recognizing this most outstanding young man as our student of the month.

Mr. Hinkle (US History Teacher):  Gage is very personable and hard working in class.  He is seen as a leader by his peers and adds greatly to class discussion.  He is confident in his abilities and easy going, except when teachers bring up a Louisville Cardinals loss, in which case he can be very animated.  Gage is a great student to have in class and a great person in general.  I have no doubt that he will carry forward the Etown tradition of excellence in whatever he does in life.

Coach Todd (Basketball Coach):  Gage is a tremendous young man, who has a diverse list of activities.   I remember visiting an elementary class Gage was in a number of years ago, and he was the modest, quiet leader even then.  I have enjoyed being involved with Gage in basketball and also watched him umpire baseball in the summer.  All of his high school leadership opportunities will serve him well in the future.

Mrs. Lively (Science Teacher):  Gage is an outstanding young man with a drive to succeed.  When he was in my class, he was always prepared and eager to learn.  On and off the court, Gage is a team player who focuses on the success of the entire group, not just himself.  He is an asset to EHS, and I am confident he will continue to be successful in the future.

EHS is proud to recognize Gage Sondergard as the February Student of the Month.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL                                HARPER GREGORY

Harper is an 8th grade honor roll student who is a standout in basketball and volleyball.  She is on the A/B Honor roll.  Her favorite subjects are math and history.  When Harper’s at home she enjoys going to church, she’s an active member of Severns Valley Baptist Church.  She also enjoys spending time with her family.  Her favorite things to do are eat dinner together on Sunday nights and then go swimming with them.

The following teachers had this to say about Harper:

Amanda Smith

Harper embodies all that it means to be an E-town panther.  She always works hard on her classwork and fills my room with a positive attitude.   She has a great personality that has helped to complete my seventh period.  She always arrives to class on time, stays on task until her work is completed and works hard on every assignment.  Harper is very respectful to all of her peers and works well with everyone.  She is a joy to have in class!

Pearman

Harper is a respectful young lady. She takes back after her grandma, Linda Gregory, with whom I worked together for about twenty years.  I appreciate Harper's efforts in class and online during these crazy times. If she continues this path, she will make a fine future citizen in our community or wherever she decides to make her abode.

Coach Shearer

Harper is a very conscientious student.  She is always prepared for class and maintains a positive attitude even when things might get difficult.  She is a pleasure to have in class and her future is incredibly bright!

Harper is looking forward to playing high school basketball and volleyball next year.  She’s not nervous heading to high school and is excited to meet and make new friends.  When Harper graduates she wants to attend college and go into the medical field.  Best of luck to Harper when she attends EHS next year.  Congratulations to Harper Gregory, TKS February Student of the Month.

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY                       ELLA HUMPHRIES

It is Morningside Elementary School’s honor to recognize Miss Ella Humphries as Student of the Month for February.

Ella is a student in Mrs. Shannon Riney’s first grade class.

Ella is a wonderful example of a star student.  She comes to school with a smile on her face and leaves at the end of the day just as happy. When she is not in school, we love to see her smiling face on our Google Meets. She is a very conscientious student both in the classroom and at home, virtually.

Ella takes great pride in following classroom and school rules.  She never needs reminders to do what she is supposed to be doing. She is a great example to the other students who do need reminders.

Ella’s school work is always fantastic.  She puts her best effort in anything and everything she does.  If she doesn’t understand something, I can always count on her to ask for help.

The other first grade teachers strongly agree with this. They say Ella is punctual and attentive during each and every Google Meet. She is the most kind and sweet student.

Here are a few remarks from her specials teachers:

Mrs. Willett says Ella is a bright young lady. She exhibits a high level of attention to detail and craftsmanship at such a young age. She is a joy to teach art to.

Mrs. Stroop says Ella is always attentive and ready to answer questions in class.

Mrs. Evans says Ella is a hard worker who has been doing an excellent job in music class.  She always comes to class ready to learn and has become a great role model for her peers. I’m looking forward to watching her continue to grow in her musical endeavors.

As you can see from the positive comments, we here at Morningside think Ella is a pretty special young lady.  We are very lucky to have her here and I am so lucky to have her in my class.

Congratulations Ella for representing Morningside Elementary as our February Student of the Month!

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS                       BRICE TATUM

It comes with great honor to present to you Helmwood Heights February Student of the Month Mr. Brice Tatum! Brice is a student in Mrs. Davenport’s 1st grade class.

“Brice is such a wonderful student and he is a true pleasure to have in my classroom”, states Mrs. Davenport. Brice always works so hard on anything that we are doing. I am proud of how much he is learning and growing! Brice never gives up or complains and always has a positive attitude. I can always count on Brice to set a good example for his classmates. He does the right thing, even when no one is watching!

Brice’s kindergarten teacher Mrs. Pinkham said “Brice was by far one of the most happiest and exemplary students she has ever had.” He was always willing to do whatever I asked of him. Brice was always eager and willing to help his classmates.

Mrs. Davenport adds,  “Brice is a great friend to everyone in our class! He has a huge heart, and he always brings a smile to my face with the kind words he says and the nice things that he does for others!” Congratulations on being Helmwood’s Student of the Month, Brice! We are so proud of you!!

PANTHER ACADEMY              BRAXTON WILKINS

I am so excited to share with you one of my student’s for February student of the month.  Mr. Braxton Wilkins has been with me since before school started in August.  I had the pleasure of working with him for several weeks prior to kindergarten starting.  I could tell immediately that he was so eager to start school and to learn..and boy has he learned a lot!  I also realized instantly that he is one of the most respectful children I have ever had the pleasure of teaching.  Braxton strives each and every day to be a good listener, to follow directions, and to do his very best work!  I know he wants to make Mrs. Pinkham and his parents very proud...as we all are!  I think it’s safe to say that Braxton loves school as he asks his mom often if he gets to learn with me and his classmates or if he “has to learn from home”.  I can’t wait to return to school because of students like Braxton that make my job easier as well as so much fun!  Braxton has THE best sense of humor and makes me laugh on many days.  He is also so considerate as he asked his momma if I could join them for Thanksgiving dinner or videos just to let me know he is thinking about Mrs. Pinkham...what a fabulous example of Braxton’s kind heart.   I am so proud of you Braxton and I am so thrilled to say that YOU are MY student and that you are February’s Student of the Month!
