Rationale

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL        JONAS CLAGETT

The Elizabethtown High School student of the month for March is Jonas Clagett, an outstanding senior in the class of 2020.  Jonas has been a member of the band since 6th grade, playing the trombone in concert, marching, and jazz band, and the cymbals in winter percussion.   Jonas is also an artist, being accepted into several art schools – including Jonas’s top choice– the Columbus College of Art and Design, which is where he will be attending in the fall.   In the community, Jonas volunteers for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, spending an hour weekly at Panther Place with his little brother.   This is Jonas’s third year he’s been involved with the program.   Jonas has also volunteered three times for the Chrysalis program and in his spare time enjoys reading and is part of a collaborative comic group online.  Jonas is an enjoyable student who is always willing to participate and comes each day with a positive and helpful attitude.

Jonas’s English teacher, Mrs. Thompson shared these comments:  “I am so thankful that our school is recognizing one of the most unique, talented, deep thinking, super cool young people as our student of the month. I have enjoyed working with Jonas as his dual credit English teacher and through the band program. What stands out to me most about Jonas is that he is an intellectual. His thoughts and approaches to class tasks and discussions are not simply unique but enlightening and full of an understanding that the world is a really big place and he has an important place in it. I appreciate this young man and his wonderful family and want to congratulate him on being our student of the month!”

Mr. Cantrell, Jonas’s band director added:  “Jonas is one of the more dependable band members that I have.  He is always thoughtful and hard-working and will leave a big void in the band as he graduates this year.”

Jonas is also taking Fundamentals of Public Speaking with Mrs. Dodson who says: “Jonas is a pleasure to have in communications class.  He understands the importance of improved communication and works hard on all assignments.”

  • Congratulations Jonas for being selected as the March Student of the Month and thank you for all of your contributions as an E-town Panther. You are a leader of the class of 2020 and Elizabethtown High School is honored to recognize you as the March student of the month.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL           MARISSA TOMS

She is involved here by swimming for the swim team being a peer tutor and working in Mr. Alvey’s  room.

She believes that her positive attributes are that she pays close attention in class shows strong leadership, tries to be a good example to her peers and finishes her work.

Marissa is a lifelong Panther. She spent her life attending Morningside and Helmwood and then moved on to TK, she prides herself in making good grades and has always been an A/B honor roll student.

When not doing her schoolwork she likes to read.  Her favorite book is Land of Stories because it is fiction and adventurous.

Marissa attends Southeast Christian Church and enjoys our small group.

In addition to swimming for TKS she also swims for the Dolphins.

Ms Johnson submitted a statement about Marisa:

Marisa is an absolute joy to have in class.  Everyday I want to first point out her attitude. I can never tell if she is having a bad day. She is always respectful, excited and bubbly. I strive for her attitude toward life!

Academically, she has a champion! Even when she is struggling with the concept, she reaches out for help until she gets it. Her determination and work ethic are impressive and she is an incredible role model for all those around her. I look forward to seeing her every day, and can’t wait to see how the end packed her community! I see her doing amazing things in her future! Congratulations on this much deserved honor!

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY      ZOIE EDWARDS

Zoie Edwards

As I think about our entire 4th grade class, many students exemplify the qualities that work together to make successful students.  However, I was so excited when I found out Zoie Edwards was voted to be this month’s Student of the Month.  I believe Zoie’s classmates were as delighted as I was when they heard she had been selected.  I asked each of her classmates to write about what he/she thought described Zoie.

Sincerely,  Marsha Adams, 4th grade teacher

Words they used repeatedly to describe Zoie:

Has Integrity   Hardworking  Attentive             Intelligent        Responsible

Good Friend, Kind, Nice   Cool  Funny            Helpful

Never Gives Up    Loves Science

Quotes from her classmates:

Friendship:

“Zoie is the nicest, funniest person I have ever met.  She is everything above nice.  I’m glad she was selected.”

“Zoie has a nice heart and I’m glad you are my friend.  You are a beautiful person.”

“Zoie is a good friend by being really nice and sweet.  When you fall, she is there to help you back on your feet.”

“Zoie is one of the nicest people I know.  If I’m alone at lunch, she will sit by me.  She cares if I am sad.”

“Zoie is kind to everyone.  If she sees someone alone at recess, she plays with them.”

Leadership:

“Something good about Zoie is that she works hard on whatever she is doing.  She never gives up and she is a leader.”

“Zoie is a great team-player.  She helps everyone get something done.  She is a hardworking classmate.”

“She is awesome and she loves science.”

“What I admire about Zoie is that she always does the right thing even when no one is watching.”

“I think Zoie is cool because when she loses at something, she does not get mad.”

“Oh, wow! Zoie is the Student of the Month!  She is a leader and she is never bossy, mean, or disrespectful.  She always does the right thing.  She is very smart, she always pays attention, and she always tries even if it’s hard.  She inspires me because she is always herself: funny, kind, silly, loving, and a good friend.”

“Zoie is an amazing person inside and out.  She is funny, sweet, and smart.  Zoie is one of the best friends I have and it’s because of who she is.  Zoie should have this amazing opportunity because she is awesome.”

Our second grade teacher, Mrs. Gardner also wanted to add, “Zoie always brightens my day.  Her smile is contagious!  She loves to help others and is always a hard worker!!!

Mrs. Kendra Adams said, “Zoie is such a kind sweet soul.  She always has a smile on her face and always has a positive attitude.  I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!  Great things will come to her based on her character and determination.  A well deserved honor!”

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL             HUDSON DAVIS

It is Morningside Elementary School’s honor to recognize Hudson Davis as student of the month for March 2020.  Hudson is a student in Mrs. Shannon Riney’s first grade class.

Hudson is a wonderful role model in our class on how to treat others.  He is genuinely kindhearted and friendly to everyone and will go out of his way to help others.  He also has a great personality and sense of humor.  He wrote a story about school and said “my teacher thinks I’m funny. I always make her laugh!” How true!  He really does make me laugh! I love his easy going nature and quick wit!

Hudson is also a very well rounded first grader.  He excels in academics, always striving to do his best work.  His is also involved in soccer, karate and basketball.

I’m not the only person who thinks Hudson is deserving of this award. Mrs. Willett, Hudson’s art teacher, said that “Hudson is an excellent role model for listening and participating in class.  He always comes in my door with a positive attitude and gives 110%.” Mrs. Evans, his music teacher, said “I am so glad Hudson was chosen as student of the month.  I cannot think of a child more deserving.  Hudson is a great role model for other students.  He always comes in to music class with a smile on his face and a desire to learn.  He is also helpful and supportive to his peers, helping them or sharing kind words to anyone having a tough time.  I can always rely on Hudson to make good choices and do the right thing, even when no one is looking.” Mr. Knight, his PE teacher, says that Hudson is a terrific young man who makes great choices and leads by example.

So as you can tell, we at Morningside think Hudson is a pretty special boy!  I’m very lucky to be his teacher and share in his enthusiasm for learning.  Congratulations, Hudson, for representing Morningside Elementary as March Student of the Month!

Melody Witten is a fabulous all-around kid!  She is a role model in our classroom and has great character.  She won the monthly award for “Respect” in August, but could easily win all character awards that are given.  She is respectful, responsible, kind, and hard-working.  I can always count on her to do the right thing.  She loves learning and has grown tremendously this year.  She likes to make connections to her own life and explore and extend her learning at home.  She is very detail-oriented and remembers everything.  I am so happy to have her in my class and know she will be very successful in everything she does in the future!

Here is an acrostic poem written about this wonderful student and person:

Yearns to be great in all that she does

Nice manners alwaysPANTHER ACADEMY                MELODY WITTEN

PANTHER PLACE       BENTLEY MULLINS

Bentley Mullins is Panther Place’s student of the month for March.  She has been attending Panther Place since the beginning of first grade and is currently in Ms. Watt’s third grade class at Helmwood Heights Elementary School.  Her Panther Place teacher, Mrs. Williams had these kind words to say about Bentley, “This young lady is friendly, intelligent and always doing the right thing.  Her smile lights up the room.”

Bentley is a natural leader and other students follow by her good example.  She works on her homework diligently and she said being able to receive help with her homework is why she likes coming to Panther Place.  Her Panther Place classmates all agree that Bently is nice and kind.  Several students shared the following comments:  “She helps me.”  “She is a a good friend.”  “She’s fun to play with and makes up fun games” “She is smart.” “She tells funny jokes.”

Bentley told me that her favorite subject in school is science, especially chemistry type experiments.  When not in school she is involved in cheer and she likes to practice basketball skills at home.

Bentley is such a joy to have in the program.  She is a great role model, exhibiting all the good character traits that we desire for our Panthers.  She is respectful to both staff and students.  She is responsible, compassionate and has lots of integrity.  Bentley certainly is the kind of student that we want to represent our program and it is with great pleasure that I name her student of the month for Panther Place.
