The February 18, 2020 Regular Board Meeting of the Elizabethtown Board of Education is Called to Order

"I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS ONE NATION UNDER GOD INDIVISIBLE WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL"

Pursuant to EIS Board Policy 01.45 Board Meeting Agenda, as part of the official agenda for each regular board meeting, the Superintendent shall prepare a consent agenda of routine business items.  Prior to the approval of the agenda the members of the board may request to "pull" any item from the consent agenda and place the item on the action agenda for further discussion and review.

During 2019, Mr. Anthony Kuklinski, Chairman of the EIS Board of Education's professional development efforts resulted in the successful completion of Level V within the KSBA Academy of Studies.  

This in-service training initiative is designed to prepare school board members to succeed in a new era of high expectations through a realistic and practical curriculum designed with the assistance of experts in the field - current Kentucky board members and superintendents.  By completing Level V, Mr. Kuklinski has achieved KSBA's highest level of individual recognition and taken another step in a very important journey that will benefit the students in our school district for years to come.

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL         JOSIE KREMZAR

The EHS Student of the Month for February is Josie Kremzar.  Josie is a senior at EHS who is involved in a wide variety of activities.  Josie has been a member of the Lady Panther Varsity Soccer Team all four years of high school, helping her team to win four district championships and being named All-State Honorable Mention her junior and senior year.  Josie is also a member of the Pep Club (where she is currently serving as vice-president), student council, and she volunteers her time with Feeding America.  Josie participates in our co-op program at EHS where she is employed at Bell, Hess & Van Zant.  After graduation, Josie plans to attend the University of Evansville on a soccer scholarship with an undecided major.    

Here are some comments from her teachers:

Coach Black (Lady Panther Soccer Coach):  I have been blessed to have the opportunity to coach and teach Josie since she was in the 9^th grade.  From day one, she was a spark of life and joy that only an innocent young girl could bring to a team.  Four years later…She is still that same wonderful girl.  Voted by her peers as a team captain, she not only leads by example, but by absorption.  Somehow, players young and old gravitate to her and follow her lead.  I couldn’t ask for a better model for my players.  As a scholar athlete, she has been everything a teacher could want in a student, a coach would need from a player, and most importantly she is everything a Lady Panther at EHS wants in a teammate and friend. Add to the fact that she is one of the best soccer players in the state and one of the top students at EHS, I believe she is everything we expect and more out of a student athlete.  I am proud Josie Kremzar is able to represent EHS as a Student of the Month!

Mrs. Bell (Business Teacher): Josie is a great kid and student. She always has a smile on her face and works hard in everything she does. I have enjoyed getting to know her as a student and expect her to do great things.  

Mr. Ernst (English Teacher):  Josie is a confident and capable student. She is always good-natured and kind, and she works hard to achieve her goals.

EHS is proud to recognize Josie Kremzar as the February Student of the Month.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL                        ZOHA AHMED

Congratulations to Zoha Ahmed for being T.K. Stone’s February student of the month.

Zoha was interviewed by journalism students:  Kristin Richie, Keiran Goodman and Campbell Wallace.

When asked, Zoha the main reason she was awarded student of the month she replied because she feels she is respectful, hard-working and pays close attention in class

Speaking of classes her absolute favorite is Mrs. Johnson’s science class.  In science she has really enjoyed learning about punnet squares.

She represents TK in many ways.  She runs track, is a part of KYA, BETA.  She serves on Student Council and competes for the Academic Team.

Recently she attended the state BETA convention where she was a service leader and received second place on her portfolio.

Outside of school Aoha enjoys going to the movies and reading science fiction books.  Her favorite series is the hunger Games.

Zoha’s good friends complemented her by saying that she has a great sense of humor and a strong work ethic.  They feel inspired by her and feel like she is a great role model and stands out from other people in their class.  Her friends have observed her helping others and feel that she deserves this award.

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL        DEMI CLEAVER

Demi is a very responsible, hard working student.  She is a role model for other students both in her dedication to learning and in her positive relationships with others.

     She goes above and beyond to be prepared for class and to set learning goals for herself.  Demi works hard and always puts her best foot forward.  She sets academic goals for herself and then works hard to achieve them.  She is a great listener and follows through with her plans for learning.

     Demi is also a good friend and role model for other students.  She is loyal and works hard to create win win situations for all.  Her friends know they can count on her to do what she says she will.  Other students know they can ask Demi questions and she will answer honestly and helpfully.

     These are just a few reasons that this outstanding girl is Helmwood’s Student of the Month!--Mrs. Duff

Mrs Carol Lyman stated, “I was lucky enough to have Demi in my 1st grade class.  She would come to school every day with a smile, ready to work and learn. No task was ever too big and no assignment was left incomplete.  She sets her standards high and doesn’t back down.  I know Demi will continue to do great things as she moves on from Helmwood!  Thank you for the privilege of being your teacher.”

Mrs. Kendra Adams wrote, “I had the pleasure of having Demi in my 4th grade class.  She was a very hard worker and always had a kind word for others.  Demi is beautiful on the inside and out!  I loved having her in class and can’t wait to see what her future holds.  Congratulations sweet girl!!!”

Ms. Marsha Adams stated, “I’ve known Demi for years and she has been and will always be a ray of sunshine!”

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY                     MEREDITH DYER

The 5^th grade team of teachers selects Meredith Dyer to be Morningside’s Student of the Month.  Mrs. Key, Meredith’s homeroom teacher, says, “Meredith is an amazing young lady!  She is a confident, hard worker.  She is eager to learn, always give 110% effort, and excels academically.  She is an involved student and leader.  At school, she is a member of the Academic team – Quick Recall and Future Problem Solvers, MES Leadership Club, Gifted and Talented, and Friends Club.  She also is involved in competitive gymnastics, is a Girl Scout, a member of St. James Church, and plays piano and golf.  Most importantly, Meredith is a solid citizen and role model for her peers.  She is respectful to all, well behaved, exceptionally trustworthy, and has a charming personality.   I love Meredith and am very happy to have her in my class!”

Mrs. Line, Writing and Science teacher says, “Meredith is such a hard worker.  She always puts forth her best effort.  In my class, she is able to apply new skills that are taught very quickly.  She is also always willing to help others.  Every day, she comes into class with a positive attitude and is a wonderful role model for her peers.”’

Ms. Shaw, Math teacher, says “Meredith is a teacher’s dream.  She always models the appropriate behaviors for her classmates, is willing to help others at all times, and is the epitome of politeness and respect.  She holds high expectations for herself in everything she does, and she puts forth great effort to reach and exceed those expectations.  She is the definitation of hard work and talent combines!”

Congratulations Meredith – you truly deserve this award!

PANTHER ACADEMY                      WESTON YATES

Happy, funny, hard working and kind; are just a few adjectives that can be used to describe Weston Yates.  He  compassionate nature was displayed on the very first day of kindergarten.  We had a student join our class later in the day and without hesitation Weston patted to the open spot on the carpet beside him and said “come here buddy, you can sity by me”.  I then asked him if he knew him and he responded “no but he can sith with me.”  This small gesture of compassion went a long way not only with the other student by myself as well.  This display of inclusion was just the first of many that I have had the pleasure of witnessing; showing me just how truly special he is.  I have watched him help others clean up centers, work on roup projects cooperatively or make sure that a lonely friend had someone to play with at recess too many times to count.  His heart is so big and full of love and kindness that it becomes contagious to all those around him.

Not only is Weston an extremely caring student he is also a very bright and conscientious one as well.  He loves to be challenged during enrichment either by solving logic puzzles or deciphering letter codes.  He also enjoys working on different writing pieces during the writer’s notebook time and working with different partners during math stations.

Weston is a true blessing to not only the students; but to his teachers equally.  I am so proud of all of his progress this year and know that his future is bright.  His academic successes will take him far; however is inclusive and considerate nature is what will truly make him flourish in all that he does.

PANTHER PLACE                               ALEXANDRA ALLISON

Alex is in Ms. Watt’s 3^rd grade class at Helmwood Elementary and is new to Panther Place this school year.  It did not take us long to realize what a wonderful, respectful young lady she is.  She always has a smile on her face and a contagious bubbly personality.  She was nominated by Mrs. Williams who said that Alex is an excellent role model for the rest of her students.  She is responsible to do her homework and other assigned tasks without having to be reminded.  Alex is very polite and always makes right choices.

I spoke with some of her classmates and they all had nice things to say about Alex.  Everyone agreed that Alex is nice and kind.  They said she tells funny jokes.  She’s confident and smart and does well at all subjects in school.

Alex said that she likes coming to Panther Place to spend time with her friends.  Her favorite activity at Panther Place is math games.  She also loves to read.

Outside of school, she likes playing games with her family.  Cheerleading is a big part of her life, too.  She has been cheering for seven years and is looking forward to an upcoming cheer competition at Disney World.

It is with great pleasure that I name Alex as February’s student of the month for Panther Place Afterschool Program.

In the past EIS has applied for, and has been awarded grants offered through our local United Way agency to be utilized toward the expansion of services associated with the Panther Place Afterschool Program.  Mrs. Karen Skees and Mrs. Kathy Francis are requesting authorization to apply for this same grant for the 2021 calendar year.

The Board must approve a tentative allocation to schools by March 1.  The allocation is to include regular certified staff and related fringe benefits(section 4), classified  staffing levels and fringe benefit costs(section 5), funding for instructional supplies, materials, travel, equipment and other instructional needs (section 6), and any other funds the Board may decide to allocate to schools (section 7).  The minimum certified staffing allocation is prescribed in state regulation 702 KAR 3:246(4).
