ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL      CARLIE OLIVER

The EHS student of the month for April is Carlie Oliver.  Carlie is a senior at EHS who is involved in a wide variety of activities.  Carlie has been a 4-year member of the Lady Panther basketball ball team where she played varsity for three years and was named one of the captains for this year’s team.  Carlie helped the Lady Panthers to win 4 district titles and 1 region title which resulted in 1 state appearance.  In addition to basketball, Carlie has also played Lacrosse for the past 4 years, 3 years on the community club team and 1 year (this year) on the inaugural Lady Panther Club Lacrosse team.  She was also a member of Y-Club for 2 years, where she had the opportunity to attend KYA as a delegate.  Carlie has participated in various service projects, such as, Feeding America and food drives, as well as, attending mission trips to help with hurricane clean-up after Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Harvey.  She also participated in a mission trip to Calvary Campus in Eastern Kentucky to assist with clean-up efforts at the church and in the community.  After graduation, Carlie plans to attend ECTC for two years and then transfer to UK to finish her bachelor’s degree and then proceed to physical therapy school.

Here are some comments from her teachers:

Mr. Swiney (Lady Panther Basketball Coach):  Carlie is one of the most humble student-athletes I've ever been associated with. But, make no mistake - she is full of humor and personality. Carlie is a brilliant young woman, and I'm sure she'll find success in college and after.

Ms. Thompson (English Teacher):  Carlie is an outstanding student and young lady who has really impressed me this year by her depth of thinking. She hasn't been afraid to take on challenging topics in her writing for ENG 111 and 112, which I value and appreciate. I am so glad to have her in class this year and very happy that she is being recognized as our student of the month!

Mrs. Pennington (Co-op Teacher):  Carlie is a co-op student at HMH Therapy and Sports Medicine department.  She has been an excellent representative for EHS and this program.  She has had exemplary attitude and attendance and received excellent evaluations throughout the year.

EHS is proud to recognize Carlie Oliver as the April Student of the Month.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL                        JASON TOWELL

Jason is an 8th grade honor roll student at TKS.  His favorite class is math and his least favorite is ELA – even though he’s very good at English.  Jason is also an avid tennis player and has played for about 4-5 years.  He contributes a lot to the team and enjoys playing both single and double matches.  In his spare time, Jason enjoys playing Fortnight and hanging out with friends.  He also likes spending time with family and is active at First Christian Church.

Ms. Hindle says Jason is the epitome of Panther Pride.  He is a great student-athlete who lives by example and sets a high standard for himself and his peers.  Jason has a strong work ethic and gives full effort on every assignment, activity, project and assessment.  I have had the honor of teaching Jason for two years now.  He is quiet, but participates in class discussion with well-developed comments.  He is the type of student every teacher dreams of having in class and so deserving of this award!

Ms. Steffy says Jason Towell is an excellent student with a positive attitude.

Mr. Pearman says I was happy to learn Jason has received this honor.  He’s a very respectful young man to adults and peers alike.  His diligence in his educational pursuits is evident too.  I look forward to hearing about the great things he will accomplish in the future.

Congratulations, Jason!

Jason is looking forward to taking engineering classes at EHS and plans to continue playing tennis during his high school career.  After graduation, Jason plans to attend University of Kentucky and major in civil engineering.  Congratulations to Jason Towell, our April student of the month.

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL        EVELYN SHIRTS

It is Morningside Elementary School’s honor to recognize Miss Evelyn Shirts as Student of the Month for April 2019.  Evelyn is a student in Mrs. Shannon Riley’s first grade class.

Evelyn is the exemplar of a star student.  She comes to school with a smile on her face and leaves at the end of the day just as happy.  Teaching Evelyn is a teacher’s dream come truel  You can see it on her face that she is eager to learn new things and she loves sharing what she knows about whatever it is we are learning about that day.

Evelyn takes great pride in following classroom and school rules.  Sometimes I joke with her about her arm getting tired because she is always sitting on the carpet on a zeip voice level with her arm up.  She is a great example to the other students who aren’t always so quiet.

Evelyn’s school work is always fantastic.  She puts her best effort in anything and everything she does.  I always look forward to reading what she has written in her writing journal and seeing her colorful and imaginative drawings.

As I said before, Evelyn is the exemplar of a Star Student.  I am truly blessed to be her teacher and to share in her enthusiasm for learning.  She is going to go far in life!  Congratulations, Evelyn, for representing Morningside elementary as Student of the Month!  You are well deserving of this honor!

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL    LUCAS GREENWELL

Lucas Greenwell in Mrs. Thompson’s second grade classroom  has been selected as Helmwood Heights Elementary School’s Student of the Month for April.  Lucas embodies everything it takes to be a leader and great role model in the classroom as well as the school and community.  I am honored to be his teacher and watch him blossom, into the wonderful student and classmate that his is.

Lucas works extremely hard and always perseveres even when a task is proving challenging to him.  He takes pride in his work and always strives to do his best.  But he doesn’t stop there – you can find Lucas in the classroom helping other students long on to a computer.  He is always there to lend a heling hand-even if it’s just knowing the teacher needs a hug!!!)

Besides being a great student at Helmwood, he plays soccer for the local competitive soccer team – Athletico Flames and also plays basketball  for the Valley Creek Church league.  He is also quite the actor and will be auditioning for a part in a local play.

Lucas is 8 years old.  His parents are Timothy and Jorga Greenwell.  He has one brother, Elijah who is a 5th grader at Helmwood.

Lucas is well-deserving of this special recognition and his classmates and teacher are extremely proud of him!

Lucas our Superhero!!!

PANTHER ACADEMY                      LUIS MAYA

Mrs. Hines wrote- I am proud to nominate Luis for Panther Academy’s student of the month.  Luis is a hard working student.  He comes to school with a smile on his face every day.  He is very helpful and always tries to do the right thing.  Since the beginning of the school year, he has been teaching our class Spanish.  He has taught us color words, numbers, animal names, and simple phrases.  You can tell he loves school and is excited to be here.  Luis is a friend to every person in the class.  He is willing to jump in and help with anything and everything.  He is a great role model that always shows kindness, compassion,  honesty and loyalty to others.

PANTHER PLACE                               YANA JOHNSON

Panther Place’s student of the month for April is Yana Johnson.  She is in the fifth grade at Helmwood Heights Elementary School and has been attending Panther Place since the 2nd grade.  It is such a joy seeing her come off the bus each afternoon with a big smile on her face.

Yana is respectful and a good friend to all her classmates.  She never complains about anything.  Yana is very witty with a wonderful sense of humor.  One of our teachers had this to say, “Yana is a sweet young lady.  She inspires the people around her to help others.  She has a brilliant mind and a beautiful smile.  I am proud to know her.”  A couple of her classmates shared these words, “She’s kind and hardworking.”  “She’s smart and knows all the states and capitols.”  Yana is like a walking encyclopedia.  She knows so many facts about so many subjects.  She is very confident about what she likes and dislikes and gave me a big list of her favorite things.  Her favorite subject in school is Social Studies, she loves Panther Place family nights and at home, she likes eating supper with her family.  Her favorite food is cheddar broccoli rice and for dessert, vanilla ice cream!

We will miss Yana next year as she moves on to middle school.

TK Stone is gaining a real gem.  We are proud to name Yana as Panther Place’s April student of the month.
