IV.A. Students of the Month
Rationale

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL               RACHEL GOFF

The EHS student of the month for May is Rachel Goff.   Rachel is an outstanding student that is very involved both at Elizabethtown High School and in our local community.   At EHS, Rachel is on the leadership team of FCA, the vice-president and co-founder of the Health Career Club, a member of the BETA Club, Academic Team, and VEX Robotics Team.   As a junior, Rachel was selected as a Governor’s Scholar and attended the program at Murray State University, with Spanish as her major.

Outside of EHS, Rachel has participated in dance since she was 3 years old.   This year, she competed at the state Beta Convention in Group Talent and placed 3rd in the state and received a golden ticket which invited her to attend the National Beta Club Convention.  Along with volunteering at Feeding America as part of her extra curricular activities, Rachel also volunteers at Hardin Memorial Health weekly in the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation unit.   Rachel has decided to attend Centre College  with an intended double major of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with plans to attend medical school following her undergraduate degree.

Mrs. Black, Rachel’s Anatomy and Physiology and AP Biology teacher had these comments:  “Rachel is a joy to work with everyday!  She is conscientious about her academic work and demonstrates a diligent work ethic.  She has a vast range of intellectual knowledge and thrives on learning, with a desire to excel.”

Mr. Line, EHS’s PLTW teacher, added:  “Rachel is a natural-born leader with an impeccable work ethic.  She keeps my group of guys in line on the VEX Robotics team and leads by example through the FCA leadership team.  She refuses to settle for anything less than the best and has been a pleasure to have in class her entire high school career.  She is a solid model of a student and person for all others to look up to and emulate.”

Mrs. Lively, EHS’s AP Chemistry Teacher and Academic Team Coach, had this to say:  “Rachel is a hard working, responsible student who is always upbeat.  She is involved in many extra curricular activities, and is an integral part of the Academic Team, participating in both Written Assessment and Quick Recall.  She is successful in everything she attempts, and I know Rachel will do great things after graduation.  It has been a pleasure to have her contribute to my AP Chemistry class this year and I look forward to hearing of her future accomplishments.”

Mr. Ernst added these comments:  “Rachel is an excellent student. In Advanced Placement Literature and Composition, she has demonstrated her ability to navigate complex and challenging concepts more easily than many of her peers. Her writing is clear and succinct, and she is willing to both receive and act upon constructive criticism. Rachel takes her classroom experience very seriously and is a willing participant in all classroom activities; she works diligently and cooperates very well with her classmates. Her excellent work ethic is always rewarded with equally excellent grades.”

Congratulations Rachel for being selected as the May Student of the month and thank you for all of your contributions as an Etown Panther.  Etown High School is truly honored to have you represent us.

Mrs. Perry had this to say:

Qhovia is an excellent student.  She goes the “extra mile” in doing her work.  She completes all assignments with excellence.  She gets along well with her peers and is willing to help any student.  She is a great role model for other students.  She is active in the community as well as supporting EIS in extra-curricular activities.

Qhovia Phillips is an exceptional young lady.  She is a member of the T.K. Stone band program and is an exceptional clarinet player.  As her band director for the last 3 years, I’ve been impressed by diligence and work ethic.  Qhovia always maintains a refreshingly positive attitude and is a great example to her peers.  I very much look forward to hearing about all the great things that are to come in her future.

Qhovia plans to attend UCLA and become an FBI psychologist in the forensics program.  She has a bright future ahead of her.  It is a pleasure to recognize, Qhovia Phillips as our 2018 TKStone student of the month.

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY LANA HUTSON

I am honored to recognize Lana Hutson as the student of the month for Morningside.  Lana is one of the most diligent students I have taught.  She comes to school every day prepared and ready to work.  Her smile is contagious and her caring, gentle spirit has become a model for all students.

In the classroom, Lana has great organizational skills; she has the ability to plan and organize not only her class work, but her thoughts as well.  She is hard-working and puts all her efforts into the task at hand.  She gets along with others, follows the rules, and does her best every day.  In August, she was recognized as a Paw Award winner for 3rd grade because she is a student that exemplifies the character education words, Respect and Responsibility.

Lana is always striving to go above and beyond what is required.  She is a well rounded student that completes all assignments on time with proficiency.  Her skills in academics and creativity have given her the opportunity to work with our gifted and talented teacher, Mrs. Lackey.

Lana used her natural talents to achieve and to assist others.  We are proud to call Lana Hutson a Morningside Panther and the 3rd grade student of the month!

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY        ANNELISE ALDRIDGE

Mrs. Davis’ class is so excited that Annelise Aldridge has been selected as Student of the Month for Helmwood!  Annelise is a 5th grade student and on the All-A Honor Roll, she’s a member of the BETA club, she plays on the Flames Soccer League, and she’s an active member in her church.  She is more than deserving of this recognition for many reasons.

Annelise shows excellent character each and every day at school, she works very hard in the classroom, and is a leader by example.  As you can see from her classmates comments, there is a common theme about Annelise in regards to kindness and compassion towards others:

Hadassah says, “She’s brave, smart, and passionate.  She’s always ready to take on a new friendship with others.”

Campbell says, “I think Annelise got student of the month because she is sweet and a good friend to anyone.  Also, she puts herself in other people’s shoes when they are going through a rough time.”

Aden says, “She is very kind and is the type of person that loves to show respect and make new friends.”

Hannah says, “She is always listening when someone is talking.”

Evie says, “She tries to be friends with everyone and helps others be friends.”

Sara-Kate says, “ Annelise got this award because she is never mean to others and is always respectful.”

Eli says, “Annelise is very nice, kind, a good helper, and just a really good friend.”

Ray says, “The reason she is student of the month is because she is always kind-hearted and always confident.”

Landon says, “She’s a good friend to everyone.  She doesn’t look at people on the outside, only on the inside.”

Her P.E. teacher, Mr. Mudd says, “She always has a positive attitude with a smile on her face everyday.  She is an adorable joy to have in class and I am going to miss her positive attitude and work ethic next year.”

Our school librarian, Mrs. Haycraft says, “Annelise always brings an enthusiastic attitude to library.  She loves to learn about books and knows how to find them in the library.  She often helps others as well.”

As you can see, Annelise is a kind and compassionate student and person.  She exemplifies all the outstanding qualities of a true friend, helper, and citizen.  Congratulations, Annelise Aldridge, Helmwood’s Student of the Month!!!

PANTHER ACADEMY      Evelyn Ann Holt

Words cannot begin to describe how blessed I have felt this year having Evelyn Ann in my class this year.   Evelyn Ann is a natural leader and I can count on her in any situation to either set a good example or help me out in any way that I might need her.  She is our “calm” in the classroom.  When our day might seem a little busy or hectic, Evelyn Ann is always my calm!

She has shown so many strengths in the classroom academically as well.   She shines so brightly in language arts, math, Spanish, science and social studies. Not only does she sit and wait patiently for directions but completes any task given to her with both ease, confidence, and precision.  I could not ask for anything more!  Once she has completed any assignment, she is always willing to lend a hand and help any student in need.  I over hear her and she doesn’t just “give” a child the answer, she is “teaching and explaining” how to get the answer to the other student.  This is a very mature and higher level demonstration.

If only I could keep Evelyn Ann with me for another year!  I will definitely have a piece of my heart taken with me when she graduates!

PANTHER PLACE  ONNICA BATES

Panther Place’s student of the month for May is Onnica Bates.  She is in the fifth grade at Morningside Elementary School.  Onnica has attended Panther Place 3 out of her 5 elementary schools years.  Onnica arrives each afternoon prepared to work on her homework.  She is a hardworking student that completes all her work.  Her Panther Place teacher, Mrs. Napier said, “she is a great leader and never fails to put a smile on my face.”

Onnica is part of a site based match with Big Brothers Big Sisters which meets at Panther Place one day a week.  Her “Big” had this to say about Onnica, “Onnica is a very generous, caring, inspiring individual.  She is also very creative and loves to draw.  Onnica has an outgoing personality and is friends with everyone.  She has an athletic quality and has a smile that is contagious.”  Her classmate unanimously agreed that Onnica is smart, hardworking, and has a positive attitude.  One classmate said, “she’s always there for you even if she’s down.  She’s the kindest friend I’ve ever had.”

Onnica told me that her favorite subject in school is math and that she really likes art and can hardly wait each week to make the art announcement during the morning announcements.  When she is not at school or Panther Place, she enjoys playing softball on the community team, Crush.

We will miss Onnica next year as she moves on to middle school.  TK Stone is gaining a real gem.  We are proud to name Onnica Bates as Panther Place’s last student of the month for the 2017-2018 school year.
