IV. RECOGNITION OF GUESTS AND OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
IV.A. Students of the Month
Rationale

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL                  ZYANNA GEE

The EHS student of the month for March is Zyanna Gee.  Zyanna is a very active student at Elizabethtown High School and is currently a member of the Earth Club, Young Democrats Club, and SADD Club.  During her freshman, sophomore, and junior year, Zyanna also bowled on the bowling team.  If you come by the high school in the morning, Zyanna is the teacher aid first period, always ready to help parents with a smile.  Mrs. Simon stated:  “Zyanna is my first period aide and she is a very professional and polite young lady.  She is very helpful to me and the people she helps when answering the phone.  Love having her help me in the office and I will miss her next year!!!”

Outside of EHs, Zyanna holds a part-time job at Papa Johns and is a member of a nationwide organization, Top Teens of America, through their Louisville branch of Top Ladies of Distinction.  Teens from the Louisville area gather together to perform community service, including Christmas caroling at local nursing homes, participating in the March of Dimes Walk and cleanup at Freeman Lake.

In her senior year, Zyanna has taken many dual credit classes, including Freshman Composition and College Algebra through Campbellsville and Intro to Psychology and Public Speaking through Western.  Zyanna has been accepted into Murray State University and currently plans on majoring in Zoology Conservation, to go with her love of animals.

Mrs. Brangers had these comments about Zyanna:  “I have had Zyanna in class for several years, including Early Lifespan and Child Services.  Zyanna is a pleasure to work with – she always has a smile on her face and a pleasant attitude and always gives me her best effort on every assignment.  Her teachers at Panther Academy really enjoy working with her.”

Mrs. Dodson added:  “Zyanna is a hardworking, driven student.  We enjoy her presentations in communications.  She has a big heart and that always shines through in her behavior and her presentations.  She will be a blessing to others in all her endeavors.”

Congratulations Zyanna for being selected as the March Student of the Month and thank you for all of your contributions as an Etown Panther.  Etown High school is truly honored to have you represent us.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL                       KYANN CLARK

Kyann is an 8th grader at TKS.  She is a straight “A” student and usually has a lot of homework after school.  Her favorite subject is ELA with Ms. Bal.  Kyann’s hobbies include playing drums in the winter band, percussion in the band, and bass drum in marching band.  She’s obviously a talented musician.  Her favorite food is pizza and a well kept secret is that Kyann is a talented pianist.

Mrs. Perry had this to say:

Kyann is a wonderful student that is so deserving of the honor of Student of the Month!  She gives her very best in every assignment.  If she misses class she makes sure that she is held accountable for her work.  She is kind to her peers and is willing to help others as a peer tutor.  She is the embodiment of Panther Pride at work!!!

Mrs. Lunsford remarked:

Kyann Clark is a student that a teacher notices!  She doesn’t call attention to herself, but I’ve noticed throughout the year what a great student she is.  Kyann is admirably conscientious.  She doesn’t just do enough to get by, but goes the extra mile.  She does work for extra credit when she has a very high score.  Kyann is patient and helpful with classmates who may need some assistance.  I thoroughly enjoy having Kyann in my first period class!!

Mr.  Grossman mentioned:

Kyann works hard every day. She shows compassion for her fellow students and takes time to make sure that they are successful in class as well.  She always has a positive attitude too.

Kim Evans

Kyann Clark is an exceptional young lady and student.  Kyann was a member of the Elizabethtown High School Marching Band and is currently performing in the EHS Winter Percussion Ensemble.  As her band director, I’ve seen many examples of her talent and have been impressed by her diligence and work ethic.  Kyann always maintains a refreshingly positive attitude and is a great help to her peers.   It is pretty rare to see such a young student with the talent and ambition to know what they want to achieve and the direction and purpose they need to achieve it.  I’m very much looking forward to watching Kyann continue to improve and grow as a musician and student.

Kyann plans to attend WKU and obtain a degree in special education.  She enjoys being able to interact and nurture students with special needs.  She has a bright future ahead of her.  It is a pleasure to recognize, Kyann Clark as our March  2018 TK Stone student of the month.

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY                     JOHN LEWIS HUMPHRIES

It is our pleasure to recognize John Lewis Humphries as Morningside Elementary School’s Student of the Month for March 2018.  John Lewis is in Mrs. Fowler’s first grade class.

John Lewis has a great attitude and strives to do his best at all times.  He comes to school with a smile and positive outlook.  He has a wonderful work ethic and never gives up even when he’s challenged.  His hard work and determination have made him a role model to the students in his class.  Others look at him for guidance and as an example because he is able to follow the Guidelines for Success at all times.

John Lewis is also a great teacher helper.  He often comes to school early so he can help his teacher with anything that needs to be done.  He takes great pride in his classroom and school and is often the first to help clean up and organize.

HE is able to apply the skills that he has learned at school to his outside activities.  John Lewis recently moved up from a Wolf to a Tiger in Boy Scouts.  He also earned his God and Me badge in front of his church.  His ability to make good decisions and his thoughtfulness are just a few reasons that make John Lewis so special.

Congratulations, John Lewis.  We are honored to recognize him as Morningside Elementary School’s March 2018 Student of the Month.  We are all very proud of you!!

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY      KEIRAN GOODMAN

If you look around a classroom for someone following the Guidelines for Success, your eyes would rest on Keiran. Even though she is quiet, she is a positive and strong leader. She listens to her classmates’ ideas in group work and encourages students to get involved. Keiran includes others and doesn’t want to see anyone being left out. Another great aspect she has is work ethic. Keiran is the type of student who will say, “Am I allowed to answer all of the problems?” when only a few are assigned. Her work is always neatly done, organized and on time.

Outside of the classroom, Keiran stays active in soccer. She is a key member of her Flames soccer team where she plays wing or striker. Keiran was also selected as a Young Achiever because of her positive influence and being a role model for others.  These are just a few reasons why Keiran is worthy of Helmwood’s Student of the Month for March.

Our school librarian Mrs. Haycraft had this to say about Keiran, “Keiran shows the utmost respect and has the best attitude when she comes to the library.  She is a joy to recommend, read, and discuss books with.  She’s an avid reader who will try different genres as well.  She is very deserving of this award!”

Mr. Mudd also had this to say, “Keiran always comes to P.E. with a positive attitude and gives 110% effort!  What I enjoy the most about Keiran is her willingness to help others who may struggle or not completely understand the activity of the day.”

PANTHER ACADEMY                      ADDILYNN THORN

Addilynn Thorn is a child that I am so blessed to have in class this year.  She is very witty, kind and extremely creative.  Addilynn is always willing to help other students when they may be struggling with a subject or task.  She is also very inclusive never wanting to see anyone play by themselves.  I have seen her on many occasions include other students in the games she is playing on the playground so they are not alone.  She is very social at lunch and free times and makes sure everyone around her is included in her conversations.  Addilynn is very thoughtful and a friend to all.

Not only is Addilynn kindhearted she is strong academically as well.  She is an avid reader, writer and also enjoys solving complex math equations.  Addilynn wrote and illustrated a book about a Queen that she brought in and shared with the class.  After she shared her book with us; the other students were so impressed and excited about writing they began to create their own “books” in class.  Her writing motivated my other students to start creating and writing on their own.   Now, many students choose to write and illustrate “little books” in our classroom when the weather does not cooperate and we have indoor recess.   Addilynn’s enthusiasm for learning is an encouragement to her peers; she is an inspiration to them without even trying.

Addilynn Thorn is such an outstanding little person now full of enthusiasm, compassion and kindness I cannot wait to see what the future holds instore for her.

PANTHER PLACE                               MIKAYLA DURMAN

Mikayla Durman is Panther Place’s March student of the month.  This is her first year in the Elizabethtown Schools and Panther Place Afterschool Program.  She has proved to be a wonderful addition to our program.  Her Panther Place teacher, Mrs. Anderson nominated Mikayla because she exhibits all the positive qualities that we desire of all our panthers.   Mrs. Anderson said, “Mikayla is so sweet and always asks others if they need help.  She never yells out but, always raises her hand and waits patiently.  She always has a happy vibe that just makes you smile.”

Mikayla told me that science is her favorite subject in school.   She likes doing science projects and learning about nature.  She said that she likes Panther Place because it’s fun.  She likes all the activities.  Mikayla has a Panther Place site-based match with Big Brothers Big Sisters.  One of the highlights for Mikayla each week is spending time with her “Big” at Panther Place.

Some of Mikayla’s classmates shared the following comments with me.  “Mikayla is a quick learner.”  “She sets priorities and does her homework before doing anything else.  She takes pride in her homework.”

“She’s nice and if someone needs help, she helps them.”  “She likes to draw and is good at it.”

We are happy to name Mikayla student of the month for March.
