Students of the Month
ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL EVELYN WILLOUGHBY
The EHS student of the month for October is Evelyn Willoughby. Evelyn, a senior, has worked extremely hard since enrolling as a freshman, maintain a 3.8 GPA, while trying to learn the language and learn all about high school life. At EHS, Evelyn is involved in the SADD Club and Writing Club and outside of school, Evelyn is very involved with her church, Crossroads Baptist Church. In addition, Evelyn s a big help at home helping to take care of her 7 younger sisters, all of whom are from China. After graduation, Evelyn plans to attend ECTC and become an interpreter so that she can help other kids and families with adoption.
Here are some comments from her teachers:
Mrs. Dodson (English 4 and Communications Teacher): Not only is Evelyn a very considerate and compassionate young lady, but she is also a very conscientious student, never hesitating to ask questions and applying initiative to complete her work successfully. It is also to Evelyn’s credit that she knows how to laugh at herself when she occasionally makes a mistake. I enjoy having her in both English IV and Communication.
Mrs. Pennington (Business Teacher): Evelyn is a joy and a pleasure to have in my Medical Office Management class. She participates and asks questions. I am impressed with her common-sense approach to solving problems we discuss in class, and she is always willing to share her opinions with us.
Mrs. Dye (Art Teacher): Evelyn has a smile that lights up the room. She has a great sense of humor and gets along well with everyone. Evelyn is always willing to help others and she has a wonderful attitude.
EHS is proud to recognize Evelyn Willoughby as the October Student of the Month.
T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL JENNA SMALLWOOD
Jenna Smallwood is an 8th grader at TKS. She is a straight “A” student and excels in challenging courses such as high school Algebra I, History and Appreciation of the Arts, Spanish, and Pre-AP English. Jenna is also active in Student Council. At the beginning of the school year, she was one of the runway models when student council put on a dress code show. She did a terrific job.
Mrs. Lunssford, her Spanish teacher had this to say:
I am so excited to know that Jenna has been selected as the October Student of the Month. She is an outstanding young lady. I thoroughly enjoy having her in my 3rd period class. Jenna is polite, kind, and respectful. Her work is spot on each time…she really pays attention to detail which is so important in a language class. Jenna is such a pleasure each day and I am enjoying getting to know her.
Mr. Lutz, her Algebra I Honors teacher said:
Jenna is an excellent math student. She works very hard and is willing to go above and beyond expectations to improve her skills. Jenna is very respectful to all staff and students at TKS. She is a great representative of TKS and our school system.
Her social studies teacher, Toni Perry said:
Wonderful young lady!! I really enjoy having her in my class. She is such a responsible student. She was absent one day and emailed me and requested any missed work. She is like a “sponge” for learning content materials. She earns very high academic grades and is a great role model for her peers.
Sue Steffy says:
Jenna Smallwood is an ideal student. She is smart, she works hard and she has a great attitude. Jenna has a good sense of humor and she is always a pleasure to have in class. She is also a dedicated gymnast, working on her skills multiple hours every day.
Her passion is gymnastics; Jenna has been in competition since age 8. She travels in and around Kentucky competing and her favorite gymnastic event is the floor. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, swimming, and participating in Bible studies with her friends.
It is my pleasure to recognize Jenna Smallwood as TKS Student of the Month.
MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY MACY WARD
The 5th grade teachers select Macy Wars as the EIS Student of the Month.
Macy is an exceptional student in all ways. She is self-motivated, values education, and is an extremely hard worker. She is willing to invest the time needed to be successful in class.
Comments from her teachers include:
Mrs. Key-Macy earned 103% of the Panther Points available the first nine weeks, which means she earned 10 points every day as well as bonus points for being helpful to her classmates and teachers. She is very intelligent, but humble, and is a mentor to her peers helping them to be successful as she is! Although she is a quiet person, her actions speak loudly as she demonstrates exemplary behavior and models responsibility and good manners.
Mrs. Rowland-Macy always has her work completed on time, she participates in class and is kind to her classmates.
Mrs. Line-Macy is an excellent student! She works well in groups and is always helpful to me and her classmates. She is a fantastic writer and strives to get better every day.
Mrs. Oldham-Macy does well in math class and has a strong desire to improve her math skills. She is a joy to have in class.
Macy is a member of FRIENDS Club in which she is a “buddy” to students in a special needs classroom. She is an active member of Severns Valley Church and participates in the youth group there, and plays on a soccer team.
Congratulations to Macy – we love her dearly and she certainly has earned the right to be Morningside’s October Student of the Month!
HELMWOOD HEIGHTS JAKE HUBBARD
Jake Hubbard is a 4th grade student in Mrs. Hinton’s class. Although this is only his second year at Helmwood Heights, he has made a powerful impact on the school and his classmates.
When Jake found out that he had been chosen as October’s Student of the Month, his reaction was one of surprise. He told Mrs. Hinton that he was really excited, but surprised that it was him. His classmates weren’t a bit surprised to hear that Jake was the 4th grade choice for Student of the Month. Here are a few quotes from his classmates.
-
Jake is a hard worker that will help others that need help.
-
He is a role model for everyone and he is also funny!
-
He is one of the nicest people I have ever met.
-
Jake is always respectful to others.
-
He is not a bully. He is a kind friend.
-
Jake, you stand out. If you see someone that is sad, you go and help them and cheer them up.
-
He always has a positive attitude.
As you can see from the above quotes, Jake has made quite a positive impression on not only his classmates, but his teachers as well. Jake is a true role model and is a constant example of our school’s guidelines for success. He is well deserving of this honor.
Congratulations, Jake!! We are all proud of you! Keep up the good work.
PANTHER ACADEMY BRADEN HOUSE
Braden House is an outstanding student and an excellent candidate for Student of the Month. He is very hardworking, respectful, and always takes our classroom conversations to the next level. However, the biggest thing that sets him apart from the other students is the compassion he has for others. At the beginning of the school year, Braden noticed a student on the playground from another classroom that would play alone. He quickly realized the main reason this child kept to himself was because he is nonverbal. Everyday Braden would try and play with this student so he wouldn’t have to play alone. He would go home talking about his new friend and how he could communicate with him better. Braden asked his friend’s teacher if she would help him communicate with the other student. His grandmother even bought Braden a sign language book so he could learn ways to talk to his new friend. Braden has shown his compassion in other ways too. In the classroom, he will have others go before him in line, class discussions, etc. He always puts others first, which is a trait that normally kindergarteners don’t possess. Most 5 and 6 year olds are not constantly thinking about other people and their needs. I love how Braden is always thinking outside of the box with his creativity. When asked something hat is the color pink during the color days his reply was, “Sometimes God paints the sunset pink for us to look at.” Braden is a student that teachers wish to have in their classroom. Not because he is well behaved and extremely smart but because he makes everyone he is around want to be a better person, even me. I am so blessed to have Braden in my class this year and proud of him to receive this honor.
PANTHER PLACE RYNIA HAWKINS
This is Rynia’s second year attending Panther Place. She comes to us from Mrs. Hayes third grade class at Morningside Elementary. Her Panther Place teacher, Mrs. Compton, said that she really enjoys having Rynia in her class. Rynia always comes prepared with her homework and a good attitude. She is very respectful to everyone and willing to help others whenever she can. Rynia says that she loves Panther Place because she has made new friends there, enjoys all of the activities and has time to get her homework done so; she can spend time with her family when she gets home. Rynia’s favorite subjects in school are science and math. When Rynia is not at school or Panther Place she likes going to church and learning Bible stories. Because Rynia displays such wonderful character traits and is a model student, we are proud to name her Panther Place’s October Student of the Month.
