V. RECOGNITION OF GUESTS AND OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
V.A. Students of the Month
Rationale

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL                              MADISON MORAN

The EHS student of the month for April is Madison Moran.  Madison has worked extremely hard over the past four years and is an excellent student as depicted on her transcript and resume.  She has maintained a solid 3.9 GPA while taking several honors and dual-credit classes.  By the time Madison graduates, she will have earned 24 college credit hours, all of which were earned her senior year.  Madison is currently the President of the SADD Club and the Friends of Rachel Club.  She is a member of the Writing Club, Young Republicans Club and the Beta Club.  She is a four year member of our Lady Panther Soccer Team and a three year member of the EHS Archery Team.  In addition, Madison enjoys volunteering at her church, St. James, the Hardin County Public Library, Feeding America and at youth soccer camp.  Madison is, without a doubt, one of the finest young ladies to walk the halls at Etown high School.

Here are some comments from her teachers:

Mr. Black (Soccer Coach):  Madison Moran is a wonderful representation of what it means to be an EHS Panther.  I have been fortunate to have taught Madison in class and her on the soccer field for the last four years.   She is a soft spoken young lady with a tremendous heart and attitude.  Even a broken leg did not deter her from making contributions to our soccer team.  She was always there to help the team on and off the field.  I am delighted that we have named her as Student of the Month.  She is a stellar example of what we should be looking for in all of our students.

Mrs. Barcenilla (Spanish 2):  Madison is a sunny, intelligent, lovely girl.  She is polite, hard working, gets along well with everybody, and has the nicest, open, embracing, polite attitude.  Madison is one of those students that makes teacher’s life easy:  no drama, no rudeness, no bad grades.  I love having her in class, only wish she had taken Spanish earlier!

Mrs. Thompson (Eng 101/102):  Madison is a one of a kind student and young lady.  She is incredibly dedicated to her education, and also beautifully humble and well-respected by her peers.  I am very pleased that she is this month’s honored student.

Mr. Swiney (Journalism):  Madison does a tremendous job as our newspaper editor.  This year was tough on her because we have such a small staff, but she handled the leadership role as I hoped she would!  She’s a delightful young lady – seemingly always with a smile on her face.  I’m fortunate that she chose to be a part of the Journalism staff, because she’s done a great job with whatever I’ve asked her to do.

Mr. Thorn (Archery Coach):  Madison has been part of the High School archery team since its inauguration back in 2014.  Since then she has developed as a true leader of the team.  Always the first to arrive for practice, Madison truly exemplifies  true-leadership  qualities.  Madison is a role model to the younger archers and brings a positive attitude to each and every practice/tournament.  She demonstrates the work ethic, determination, and drive all teachers and coaches like to see.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL                                       ANNA GRACE CARTER

When you meet Anna Grace Carter for the first time you are struck by her open and wholehearted smile.  She makes a real effort to get to know other people around her and to make the interaction positive.  She has both a carefree and light side, as well as a serious and composed side to her personality.  In addition to playing for the EHS soccer team, she plays for the Flames, participates in the TKS student council, Kuna, and KYA.  She has a large group of friends and is always willing to extend herself to make more.

Ms. Steffy says, “Anna Grace is a sweet girl.  She works hard in class and strives to be the best student possible.  She is also a dedicated athlete who excels on the soccer field.”  Ms. Lunsford,  who has had Anna Grace for two years, says “it is such a joy to see her bright smile each day!  I appreciate Anna Grace’s respect  that she shows to others and to me.  She says hello outside of class, in the hallways or out in the community.  Anna Grace is a conscientious student and fun to have in class.  She participates daily and helps keep the class morale up.  I’ve watched  Anna Grace grow up and she is becoming a lovely young lady.”  Mr. Pfeiffer also mentions that “Anna Grace is the consummate student-athlete. She is a very diligent worker, and truly cares about the quality of her schoolwork.”  Ms. Carter, who has had Anna Grace in English, says “I have come to appreciate how hard working and well-rounded you are.  I enjoy watching you get excited when you come up with a great idea to write about or when you concentrate so deeply that you scrunch your nose.  I know you love being a Panther and it is fun to watch you in your element each day.  I appreciate that you are creative yet structured and disciplined.  I love that you are confident yet always eager to learn from your peers.  I love that you take your job as a panther seriously and feel like TKS is part of your family.  Enjoy your moment!”  Finally, Ms. Hindle has this to say, “Anna Grace Carter is very deserving of T.K. Stone’s Student of the Month.  She is very conscientious and focused on achieving academic excellence in all her classes.  If she does not understand a concept, she settles for nothing less than mastery.  As a classmate, Anna Grace works well with any of her peers and is positive and pleasant to all.  She is usually smiling and greets everyone with a smile and a “hello”.  She is also dedicated as an athlete on our EHS soccer team.  She trains year round and demonstrates hard-work and good sportsmanship on the soccer field.  She exemplifies Panther Pride!”

For these reasons, we are thrilled to honor Anna Grace Carter as our April TKS student of the month!

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY                                     KALLEIGH FAIRCHILD

This is Kalleigh Firchild’s first year at Morningside and she is an excellent example to be recognized as the Student of the Month.  Kalleigh is a kind-hearted student that is always looking out for others.  She is a role model in the classroom and other students often look to her for guidance or help.  She has easily made friends with every student in our classroom and truly lives by the saying, “Treat others, as you would like to be treated.”

All of the teachers that have had the privilege of interacting with Kalleigh know how much she values her education.  Her work ethic is strong and she always goes the additional mile with her homework and class work.  She is an “outside the box” thinker and you can see the wheels turning when she is given a challenging problem.  She craves difficulty and loves to excel.

I am honored to recognize Kalleigh Fairchild as Student of the Month for Morningside Elementary.

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY                      CATHERINE BROWN

Catherine Brown is a very deserving student for this award.  Along with demonstrating the character education words, she also has a kind and generous heart.

Catherine may be quiet and attentive in class, but she readily gets involved in group activities.  Her kindness comes through when she sees someone needs a partner for the activity.  Catherine invites them to join her group, or she leaves who she was going to work with and works with that person.  She does a great job working with others and helping them to get involved.  Another way Catherine is kind is by staying positive.  There is never a negative comment from her.  She readily does what is asked of her, even if she may not want to do it!

Catherine is an avid reader.  If you were to enter our classroom, if she is not working with someone, you would see her reading a fantastic book.  She is an above grade level reader and always has a book or two ready to open.

Outside of school she is involved with her church, Severns Valley, and she also has a love for horses and takes riding lessons.  Her days are busy with helping others, reading and riding.

Congratulations to Catherine Brown for being Helmwood Heights’ Student of the Month!

PANTHER ACADEMY                                                      WILL BENNETT

Funny, smart, nice, great friends, these are just a few comments I have heard from other students when they describe Will Bennett.  Will is the type of child that other students want to be friends with and the type of student teachers enjoy teaching.  He is compassionate, kind, funny and enthusiastic about learning.  We have wonderful class discussions in kindergarten and I am always excited to see what ideas or thoughts Will is going to share with the group.

He is able to make real world connections with various topics and apply them when working independently or in a group setting.  He loves math and is always challenging me to give him “harder work”.  During our writer’s workshop Will stays on task and creates wonderful pieces about places he wants to visit or what he likes.  His piece he created about what he would do if “He were King” was fantastic.  He wrote about how he would go eat Mexican, watch Garfield, sleep in and let the Trolls have a party.  I love his creativity!

Will not only excels academically but socially as well, he is friends to all his peers and superb role model.  His manners and communication with adults is delightful and refreshing.  His since of humor is wonderful, especially for a six year old.  We often tease each other over our favorite basketball teams and who we cheer for.  He never gets upset and is very witty and clever with his comebacks.  He always brings a smile to my face.  Will is an absolute joy to have in class and has been a blessing to my life.  I cannot wait to see what greatness he accomplishes in the future.  He is a bright and special boy and most deserving to be the Student of the Month.

PANTHER PLACE                                              QUESEAN TATEM

Que Sean is a fifth grade student coming to Panther Place from Ms. Cann’s class at Helmwood Heights Elementary School.  His Panther Place teacher, Mr. Horton had this to say about Que Sean.  “QueSean is a very polite and respectful student.  He is a friendly student who makes and effort to be positive and kind finding a way to connect with everyone, daily.  He is always willing to engage in all activities at Panther Place.”

I talked with several of his classmates who had this to say, “QueSean is very intelligent.”  He is a good friend and makes people laugh when they’re down.”  “He listens and pays attention in class and is very helpful.”  “He makes me smile a lot.”

QueSean says that he likes all the fun activities that they engage in after their homework is completed.  He is a well rounded student who likes math, reading and social studies.  He said that when he is not at school or Panther Place, he enjoys playing outdoors and going to his grandma’s house.

QueSean was one of only 4 fifth grade students that proved themselves to be respectful cooperative and responsible students who follow the program rules.  These students were given the chance to participate in an archery unit for the month of March.  QueSean has proven to be an excellent archer and would make a great addition to TK Stone’s archery team next year.  QueSean is a model Panther and we are proud to name him Panther Place’s April Student of the Month.
