IV. RECOGNITION OF GUESTS AND OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
IV.A. Students of the Month
Rationale

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL                              CHASE BRIDGES

The EHS student of the month for March is Chase Bridges.  Chase is an outstanding student and a shining example of the values that we recognize at Elizabethtown High School.  At EHS, Chase has been a 3 year starter at defensive end and a two year starter at tight end on our Panther Football team.  At the football banquet, Chase was awarded the academic award for the senior football class.

Coach Brown had these comments about Chase:  “Chase is a model student in the classroom and on the football field.  Chase is a natural leader and peers tend to gravitate toward his leadership.  He led by example through his hard work, dedication and attitude throughout his time in our program.  Chase did what we ask of all of our players when entering our program, he left it better than he found it.  I am proud to say that I coached and taught Chase Bridges.”

EHS Assistant Principal Dawne Swank has spent much time with Chase over the years and wanted to share these comments:  “Chase Bridges is a hard working student with a terrific attitude.  He always has a smile on his face and is a pleasure to be around.  I always enjoy having conversations with Chase, he is well spoken, knowledgeable, and well-rounded.  Chase has a strong work ethic and a great sense of humor and has matured into an awesome young man.  I’m excited for what the future holds for Chase – He’s going to go far in life!”

This year, Chase has been attending ECTC as a student in the SEEK program, where he is completing the first year of a 2 year technical program in Culinary Arts.  Chase earned 12 credit hours in the fall and he is currently working on an additional 12 credit hours.  And all of these hours have been tuition free with our partnership with ECTC.

For teacher comments, we asked Chase’s junior year teachers to contribute and Mr. Ernst stated that :  Chase is a fine young man of excellent character.  He is hard working and is capable of anything he sets his mind to.  He has a bright future ahead of him.

Mr. Hinkle also added:  “Chase is very personable and easy going.  He gets along well with his peers and teachers and keeps up with his school work.  He also is friendly outside of the classroom as evidenced by him yelling my name across the checkout lanes at Kroger while bagging groceries.”

Congratulations Chase for being selected as the March Student of the Month and thank you for all of your contributions as an Etown Panther.  Etown High School is truly honored to have you represent us.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL                       GAGE SONDERGARD

Gage Sondergard says “Life is a hustle,” and he certainly knows what he is talking about!  Gage is an active, busy, and outgoing student who is very involved in many aspects of T.K. Stone.  He represents our school in three sports:  Basketball, Football and Baseball, and he claims that winning the Football Championship and the Basketball semi-finals this year are the highlights of his 8th grade year thus far.

Gage’s performance in the classroom and in our school is no less impressive.  Ms. Coogle describes Gage as “an exceptional young man, who is friendly and kind to those around him.  He is a hard worker who always  puts forth his best and is always willing to help our in any way needed.”

Ms. Lundsford also mentions that Gage “strives to reach his full potential in the classroom.  He exhibits a positive outlook and attitude in class with his peers and with his teachers.  He is courteous and thoughtful in his interactions with others and he always seems to have a smile on his face!”

Ms. Steffy also mentions that “Gage is a dedicated student athlete and is a delight to have in class because he is respectful, polite, and has a kind heart.”

Gage recognized the significant role of family and friends in his life.  He mentions that his cousins play a big part in the type of person he is and as the grandson of former Mayor Tim Walker, he mentions that he knows the value of having goals “outside of himself.”  Gage is looking forward to joining the EHS teams as his high school years play out, and then says “going to college is a big deal and is definitely part of the plan.”

We all look forward to seeing where the future takes him, and it is a pleasure to recognize Gage Sondergard  as our March 2017 T.K. Stone Student of the Month.

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS                  NADIA DARHALI

There is a fifth grade student from Helmwood Heights Elementary that is going to change the world.  Her name is Nadia Darhali and she is our March Student of the Month.  Please allow me to tell you a little about this amazing young lady.

Earlier this year, Nadia had a student say something mean to her on the bus.  At first, it hurt her feelings, she cried a little and then she responded.  Nadia responded with love and creativity.  She wrote a beautiful poem about bullies and read it to the entire school on Hello Helmwood, our morning TV show.

How is that for a mature and respectful  resolution?  But wait, there’s much more to tell about this precious young lady.  Keep reading, you won’t be able to believe the impact his girls has on others.

Nadia’s peers were asked to tell why they think Nadia was selected as Student of the Month.  Listed below are some of the most common responses to this question:

  • She truly listens and considers what the other person says, she doesn’t just push her ideas on you

  • Follows directions

  • Genuinely cares about others in her class and school

  • Kind, kind, kind, loving, always

  • A great friend to all

  • Is funny, but only at appropriate times!

  • Helpful to both classmates and teachers

  • Giving, she shares her books with her friends and then donates them to the class library

  • Avid reader and writer

  • Smart and of course beautiful, inside and out

  • She makes others feel good about themselves

As you can clearly see, Nadia is a role model through and through.  She is going to use her creativity, intelligence and kindness to make a big difference in our world.  At a time when there seems to be so much bullying and conflict, we are blessed with the beautiful light of a precious young lady, Nadia Darhali!

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY     WILL LYNCH

Morningside Elementary is honored to nominate Will Lynch as the student of the month.  He is a one of a kind student and person.  He is the epitome of a role model student here at Morningside.  He can always be found following the Guidelines for Success and has an amazing attitude even when things get tough.  All of the 4th grade teachers agree that he stands out as a leader.  He excels in all areas of the classroom as well as in sports.  On the basketball court his teammates feel he is always encouraging and is great at hyping everyone up for the game.  In addition they said that he is one of the best at good sportsmanship during a game.  When I asked a few students about Will’s interaction with them they were quick to say he is kind, athletic, funny and sweet.  I can tell daily that he is highly thought of by his peers, his teachers, and the staff although he remains humble and just wants to be the best he can be every day.  In the future he wants to play professional football for the Dallas Cowboys.  All in all Will is a wonderful student who works hard, gives the utmost respect to his teachers and friends, and enjoys life.  You can see there are many reasons that we are honored to recognize Will Lynch as the Morningside student of the month.

PANTHER ACADEMY                      CLAIRE McCOY MILLER

Claire Miller is the student of the month for Panther Academy!  She is in Mrs. McCurry’s class and is an absolutely awesome student.  She has great character and is enthusiastic about learning.  He is an acrostic poem to tell a little more about her:

Loves learning                                           Is sweet

Artistic                                                      Listens well

PANTHER PLACE                               ANNABELLE BANKS

This is Annabelle’s second year at Panther Place Afterschool Program.  She comes to Panther Place from Helmwood Heights Elementary where she is in Ms. Gardner’s second grade class.  Her Panther Place teacher, Mrs. Phoenix Peeler, said, “Annabelle is a joy to have in my class at Panther Place.  She has a positive attitude and each day comes in ready to take on that day’s challenges.  Annabelle shows a sincere appreciation for her teachers and fellow classmates by always being kind, helpful, respectful and friendly.  She is a smart, confident girl that is enthusiastic about learning new things.  She loves reading all sorts of books and enjoys sharing her thoughts about the books she has read.  Annabelle also takes great interest in math.  Whenever she has the opportunity to engage in a math-related activity, she is often one of the first children to jump in and challenge herself.  Annabelle loves to smile and laugh and has a sense of humor that brightens my day.”

Annabelle never complains and eagerly participates in all activities at Panther Place.  She is an excellent role model for the other students.  Recently, Annabelle became a big sister which she is so proud of.  She said that she loves taking care of her baby sister, Clementine.  I’m sure she is an awesome big sister!

Because of all her wonderful character qualities, it brings us great pleasure to name and celebrate Annabelle as Panther Place’s March Student of the Month.
