Rationale

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL                              EMMA GODFREY

The EHS student of the month for February is Emma Godfrey.  Emma is an outstanding student that is very involved at Elizabethtown High School.  Emma is a member of the Pep Club, an officer for the Student Council, FCA, Service Club, and the Art Club.

During the day, Emma has the opportunity in her Child Services 1 class to spend the hour with Mrs. Kinder and her class at Panther Academy.  Mrs. Kinder was very excited to share these comments about Emma:  “Emma started helping in my preschool classroom after Christmas.  She is a natural with children!  All of my students love her!  They light up when she comes in the door each day!  Emma helps the children play games, put together puzzles, write and draw, build with blocks and role play in our house area.  Emma is wonderful!  I feel ver blessed to have her helping in my classroom!”

Throughout her high school career, Emma has completed Art 1,2,and 3.  Mrs. Dye commented:  “Emma is a fun and creative young lady.  She is actively involved in the Art Club.  Now in her 3rd year of Visual Arts; Emma is currently creating still life paintings as the subject of an independent study.”

Emma is a teacher aide for Mr. Yates, and she is in his AP US Government and Politics class.  Mr. Yates shared that:  “For the past two years, I have taught Emma in American History and AP Government and Politics, she is currently my aide as a senior, and this past soccer season she was the manager to the boys’ soccer team.  It has been such a  pleasure to not only teach Emma (or Ella) as I call her, but get to know her as a person.  She is strong-willed, opinionated, smart, responsible, caring, and just about everything else you would like a young person to exemplify.  Most of all, she has by far the best sense of dry-humor of any student I’ve ever taught.  She will be great at whatever she does!”

Mrs. Thompson, Emma’s teacher for Dual Credit English 101 and 102, had this to say about Emma:  “Emma has quiet strength.  I have enjoyed watching Emma become a more responsible, dedicated student who is excelling in my college level class.  I appreciate her thoughtfulness and dedication to her work.  I am glad that we are honoring students like Emma who show growth and improvement.”

In her spare time, Emma likes to babysit and give swim lessons, as she was on the Dolphins swim team for  several years, starting when she was 8, and also on the high school swim team from 9th through 11th grades.  Emma has been accepted into Eastern Kentucky University for the 2017-2018 school year, but has yet to decide on a major.

Congratulations Emma for being selected as the February Student of the month and thank you for all of your contributions as an Etown Panther.  Etown High School is truly honored to have you represent us.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL                                       AMANDA SISOUMANKHARA

Amanda Sisoumankhara is a smart, talented young woman.  She is active in many aspects of our school including Archery, Student Council, Drama Club, and she still finds time to volunteer at Panther Place afterschool as well.  Academically, she’s a diverse student with a love for both Math and Art.  Mr. Druin, who has Amanda for Art, says Amanda is very creative and one of the most talented students he has seen at her age.  “She will consistently set high standards and goals for herself and her work – not resting until those goals are met.  She often provides helpful feedback and assistance to others in class.”  Ms. Steffy also mentions, “I appreciate her positive attitude and willingness to participate in class every day.  She is a valuable member of our school.”

Mr. Green adds “Amanda is an extremely hard working student that puts maximum effort into her assignments.  She is also a very kind, considerate student.  She works well with everyone and understands how to communicate effectively in group settings.”  “Amanda is a great representative of TK Stone,”  says Mr. Lutz.  “Not only does she excel in math, but she is one of the more respectful and polite students I see each day.  Her work ethic and attitude truly have a positive impact on our school.”

Amanda’s English teacher, Kerrie Bal, states “Amanda is a true joy to have in the classroom.  She never fails to amaze with her incredible work ethic.  From her first day in class until now, Amanda constantly gives her best effort and comes into the classroom every day ready to learn.  She gives 110% on every single assignment, whether a small in-class task or a larger project.  Amanda pushes herself each and every day to be the best version of herself possible.  One attribute of Amanda’s that really sticks out is her ability to lead by example.  Amanda doesn’t need to shout from the rooftops for people to see just how much of a leader she is.  Her ability to lead her peers by simply doing what she knows to be right is admirable!”

Ms. Perry says, “Amanda is such a worthy representative for TKS Student of the Month.  Amanda is a student with a strong work ethic.  Whenever she is assigned a project she exceeds expectations and if it s a group project she inspires her peers to reach a level of excellence.  This young lady will go far in all her endeavors.  She is a great role model and an excellent student.”

Congratulations on being the TKS February Student of the Month, Amanda!

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY     ANNA MEREDITH

It is Morningside Elementary’s honor to recognize Anna Meredith as Student of the Month for February 2017.  Anna is in Mrs. Line’s fifth grade class, but is well-loved and admired by all of her fifth grade teachers.

Anna is a wonderful student to highlight because of the way that she carries herself, cares for her classmates, and her work ethic in and out of the classroom.  She is very deserving of this award.  She comes to school with a smile on her face ready to get to work each and every day.  She always puts forth her best effort and is without a doubt polite and respectful to teachers, other adults and fellow students.

Anna is a very kind and helpful friend to her classmates.  She is always wiling to help others succeed in the classroom by offering her guidance.  Her quiet, kind, and patient demeanor helps set the tone in her class for learning.

Anna is well rounded in many areas.  According to her teachers, Anna constantly strives to persevere and do her best in class.  She is an excellent reader and writer who displays hard work and determination daily.  In addition to being a conscientious student, she plays basketball and tennis.  She is also involved in the MES Newspaper Club and Drama Club.

Anna has a kind heart, an eagerness to learn, and the persistence to always produce her best work.  We are proud to call Anna a Morningside Panther.  It is with great pleasure to present Anna Meredith with this award.

PANTHER ACADEMY                      MARKIZ BURSE

The first thing people notice about Markiz is his smile.  He is always so excited to be at school to learn.  Markiz came to Panther Academy at the end of October and has made incredible progress.  He has become a leader in the classroom by helping those that struggle.  He often finds the student playing by themselves and begins playing with them.  When someone gets hurt on the playground he is the first to come to an adult for help.  When someone goes home sick, he always asks several times throughout the day if they will be alright.  Markiz has learned how to write and recognize his name.  He is also interested in building elaborate structures in the block center.  Working together with other students he has built alligator cages, castles, hospitals and even a school.  Markiz is always engaged during instruction time and shows perseverance when presented with something he is unsure of.  Always with a smile on his face he always tries his best.

PANTHER PLACE                               SYDNEY MANFULL

Sydney started attending Panther Place as a first grader.  She is now a fourth grader in Ms. Adams class at Helmwood Heights Elementary.  Sydney is an excellent student who just made the ‘A’ Honor Roll for the 2nd grading period.  She loves to read and to help other students with their reading and math.   Mr. Gaddis, our 4th grade teacher said that Sydney follows the classroom procedures without having to be reminded.  She is always eager to help whenever there is a need.  She is very respectful and cooperative with staff and classmates.

Sydney told me that she likes coming to Panther Place because she is reminded of her homework every day.  She also likes all the nice friends that she ha made.  When she is not at school or Panther Place she likes playing with her cat, Barney and dog, Poncho.  She played soccer when she was younger and took a couple of years off but, plans on playing again this year.  She is also interested in taking dance lessons.

The following thoughts about Sydney came from her classmates.  “She is really nice and really smart.”  “Sydney is kind when it comes to friendship.”  “She is a good and loyal friend.”  She is funny and sweet.”  “She always gets good grades and is good at singing.”

Because of all these wonderful traits, her helpfulness to others and her desire to be a good student, we are proud to name Sydney Manfull our February student of the month.
