IV. RECOGNITION OF GUESTS AND SPECIAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
IV.A. Students of the Month
Rationale

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL              EMMA HOCKENBERRY

The EHS student of the month for October is Emma Hockenberry.  Emma Hockenberry is an outstanding student at Elizabethtown High School, and has been a 5 year member of the cheerleading team.  Along with her commitment to the cheerleading team, she is also co-secretary of the Pep Club.

At EHS, Emma is completing the Early Childhood Pathway and as part of the pathway, she is working 2 periods a day at T.K. Stone with Mr. Alvey’s special education classroom.  Emma’s post secondary goals include cheerleading at Western Kentucky University, and becoming a special education teacher herself.

As the Early Childhood Pathway teacher, Mrs. Brangers had these comments about Emma:  “I have had the pleasure of having Emma in class for three years and knowing her since she was a little girl.  She is a bright young lady that works hard and often goes above and beyond in my classroom.  She is a friend to all students, and will help anyone (often without being asked).  She is funny, and definitely not afraid to say what she thinks!

The students and teachers at Panther Academy and TK Stone that she works with, just love her.  She is a natural teacher that can lead others with a sense of humor that makes them want to follow her.  She is going to be successful where ever she goes.”

Her cheerleading coaches had these comments:

From Mrs. Nall;  “Emma is a responsible, committed young lady.  She has an excellent attitude and gives 100% in the classroom and to her sport.  She is an outstanding student athlete who is a joy to coach.”

And from Mrs. Housh:  “Emma is a true leader and team player full of school spirit and pride.  Emma goes above and beyond to help others on a daily basis, whether it is in the classroom, on the cheer mat or with personal matters.  She is very organized and responsible and also has a great personality.”

Mrs. Thompson, Emma’s English 101 teacher, had these comments:  “Emma is a kind, conscientious student.  She cares very much about her education and also about her peers.  I am grateful to have her in my class this year!”

Congratulations to Emma for being selected as the October Student of the month and thank you for all of your contributions as an Etown Panther.  Etown High School is truly honored to have you represent us.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL                       ASHTON BAILEY

Ashton Bailey claims that she is “just not that interesting” but she certainly is involved in our school and community!  She has been a Panther since the 4th grade and is a member of the Tennis Team, Beta Club, and the TKS Academic Team among other groups.  Additionally, Ashton plays the piano, likes crafts, and enjoys reading mysteries and realistic fiction.  She has an  older brother Kade, who is a sophomore at EHS, and when she is not working on school, or another of her many interests, she enjoys hanging out with a large group of close friends.

Mr. Druin says, “It is such a pleasure having Ashton in class.  She faces each and every new challenge with creativity and enthusiasm.”  Sue Steffy states that “Ashton Bailey is a polite, hard-working, and conscientious student.  She is also kind and helpful to others.  Ashton is a delight to teach.”  Ms. Lunsford says that she is “enjoying having Ashton Bailey in Spanish class this year.  Ashton is a hard-working, conscientious student in my class.  She is polite and respectful.  I appreciate her mild and calm presence in the room!”

Kerrie Bal has this to say of Ashton:  “I have absolutely loved having Ashton in class these past three years!  Ashton is easily one of the most dedicated and self-disciplined students I’ve ever had.  She knows that anything is capable with hard work and dedication, and she is willing to put both in to excel!  Ashton always has a positive attitude and is willing to help out any classmate in need.  She constantly persists in her quest for knowledge, even when the work is difficult.  Ashton is wise beyond her years;  I often forget I’m speaking to a student when I’m speaking to Ashton because the quality of conversation she can hold is beyond the typical peers of her age!  I can’t wait to see all Ashton accomplishes in the future, as I know she is bound to be a successful woman in whichever field she chooses!”

Everyone comments on how hardworking Ashton is, and that is very true, but in school Ashton always seems to have a smile and a kind word for everyone and that is one of the traits that makes Ashton stand out as our representative for the T.K. Stone, October 2016 Student of the Month.

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY      EMMA RAINS

Emma Rains is an outstanding first grader at Helmwood Heights Elementary!  She is a well rounded girl who stands out in many areas, including academics, citizenship and personality.

Emma is an excellent reader, writer, and mathematician.  She has definite areas of interest and finds books to further her knowledge of topics she is interested in.  She has read every dog book in our classroom library!  She is a natural problem solver, and very effectively communicates her thinking to others in the classroom, helping them learn as well.  Her writing is often humorous and full of details.  She writes about her learning without even being asked to.

Emma is also a great friend to all the other students in the classroom.  She is a patient, respectful partner and small group worker.  She is always ready to help others and is very responsible and trustworthy.  She is a real leader and role model in our classroom.

Emma is out-going, curious, and hilarious.  She is an eager learner who loves to dance, play soccer, and make people laugh.  She helps make our classroom community a relaxed, fun environment for learning.

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY                     TEDDY MOORE

Teddy is a shining example of what the student of the month exemplifies at Morningside Elementary.  Teddy comes to school each day with a consistent, positive attitude.  No matter the task at hand, Teddy puts forth his best effort and gives it his all!  He never gives up and always tries his best.  In addition to his positive attitude and wonderful work ethic, Teddy is an extraordinary classroom citizen and leads by example.  If someone needs a friend, Teddy is there.  Teddy’s classmates know that Teddy is kind and caring and shows  respect to all his classmates and teachers on a daily basis.  He simply has a heart of gold.  Teddy makes our classroom a happier place just by being there and spreading his positive vibes to others.  Congratulations to Teddy Moore on being our Student of the Month!

PANTHER ACADEMY                                      BLAKE SOULES

                                                                       HUNTER SOULES

Sometimes twins are separated and placed in different classrooms but I am so happy Blake and Hunter were not.  Not only was I doubly blessed but these two are “those twins” that NEED to be together.  They thrive off one another.  They support each other.  They might even find it a little funny when I can’t tell them apart (which has NEVER happened to me with twins until this year)!

When  I say they support each other, I see one helping the other with independent work or at centers if the other is thinking extra hard & might need a little nudge.  I even notice that if we are in whole group, one twin is always rooting for the other or sending some sort of vibes to the other.  They always have each others back in the classroom.

They both work so hard at any assignment or activity that is presented to them and nothing makes a teacher happier than to see such effort!  These boys are always on task and exemplify model behavior in and out of the classroom.  I feel confident knowing they are always making great choices and setting the BEST example for their peers even if they aren’t with me!

Again, it’s super hard to separate the two!  I’ve never had twins with such mimicked personalities, expressions & behaviors but have found great joy spending every day with Blake and Hunter!  I hit the jack pot not once but twice!  Thank you boys for bringing so much sunshine into our class each day!                                                                                                    Written by Becky Pinkham

PANTHER PLACE                               CIARA PEELER

This is Ciara’s second year at Panther Place.  Ciara is in Mrs. Billings’ fourth grade class at Morningside Elementary.  Mr. Chris, her Panther Place teacher, Ciara is an excellent student who always follows the rules.  She starts her homework immediately and helps others with their spelling.  She willingly participates in all our activities.  She is a great example for others and a joy to have in our classroom.
