V. RECOGNITION OF GUESTS AND OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
V.A. Students of the Month
Rationale

Elizabethtown High School                            Reauna Cleaver
The EHS student of the month for April is Reauna Cleaver. Reauna has been a 5 year member on the Etown Lady Panther basketball team, along with being a Lady Panther little league coach and a Lady Panther summer camp coach. Along with her major commitment to the basketball program, Reauna has been a member of the pep club and friend of Rachel for 4 years.

Her basketball coach, Coach Mudd, had this to say about Reauna: "Reauna always thinks team first and has been one of the best teammates this program has seen. This season Reauna played the entire season with a torn meniscus delaying surgery just so that she could continue to help her team in any way possible. Love this girl!"

Mrs. Dodson, Reauna's English teacher had these comments: "Though Reauna has had to miss a great deal of first period English for physical therapy, she has been diligent about keeping up with assignments and maintains a high B in English. I also always appreciate Reauna's attentiveness and participation in class."

Mrs. Mudd, who has known Reauna for many years, had these comments: "Reauna is a model student with respect to attitude and character. She is loved by all, hence her nickname of "Sweets". She is a consummate team player who demonstrated her leadership ability earlier this year while having to sit out many games due to injury. Though frustrated that she could not play, she handled the situation with maturity and constantly encouraged her teammates from the bench. Once she returned to the starting line-up she continued to lead by example. Her hard work over the years has been a testament to her determination to improve her ability and is evidenced by her being named as a Miss Basketball candidate and signing a letter of intent to play at Louisiana Tech University next year."

Congratulations Reauna for being selected as the April Student of the month and thank you for all of your contributions as an Etown Panther. Etown High School is truly honored to have you represent us.

T.K. Stone Middle School                               Sabrina Hindle

Sue Steffy had this to say about Sabrina – Every teacher wishes they had a whole class just like Sabrina Hindle.  She is smart and conscientious about her grades.  She has a good sense of humor and is very personable.  Sabrina is an extremely responsible young lady.  She was chosen as the sound and light director for the TKS play, “The Rest of the West” this year and she did a marvelous job.  Mr. Cherry, our director, was very impressed with her.

I’ve watched Sabrina grow up the past few years from a little girl to a young woman.  She is gaining confidence in who she is and it’s been a pleasure to watch the transformation.  Sabrina Hindle is an excellent choice for Student of the Month and I congratulate her on this honor.

Linda Gregory had this to say about Sabrina- If you looked up the term “model student” in the dictionary, the definition would be Sabrina Hindle.  Besides having a perpetual smile on her face, she is diligent, responsible, considerate, and trustworthy.  Seemingly, she is a fri3end to all, including her teachers.  She goes out of her way to make sure she is doing what is asked of her, whether it be academic or athletic.  She will be successful in whatever she chooses to do; her attributes are hard to find wrapped up in one package.  Sabrina is a model any person would be wise to emulate.  I am so pleased to have her in my class.

Helmwood Heights Elementary School          Emma Grimm

“Drum roll please! Get out the red carpet!  Emma Grimm is Helmwood’s Student of the Month!”  You may be wondering what makes Emma qualify for this special honor?  Our class wants to inform you about how Emma’s character makes her stand out.  Character is doing the right thing at all times, even when no one is watching!  Well, our class has caught Emma in the act of having excellent character, and we want to share some of our experiences with you!

Our class agrees that Emma is a role model in numerous ways.  To begin, Emma puts forth her best effort on her school work.  Her assignments and projects are always done correctly and turned in on time.  Secondly, her behavior is top notch.  Students report that when in question, they can look to Emma to see a model of appropriate behavior.  Lastly, Emma does whatever she is asked to do the first time she is asked!  Emma always responds with “please and thank you.”  If you think Emma is an awesome role model, just wait until you hear how generous she is on a daily basis!

Emma has a unique gift, it’s her generosity.  Let us explain how her generosity has affected everyone in our class. To begin, new students report that Emma is the “go to” person if they have a question.  She gives her time and effort to welcome new students and make them feel a sense of belonging.  Other students in our class say that Emma plays with them at recess when they are feeling left out.  Emma gives up her own free time to care for other students that need a friend.  Lastly, Adrienne reported that when Emma brings candy to lunch, “she shares it with the entire table.”  How’s that for generosity?

Kindness…let’s pause for a moment to think about that word.  What an incredible action!  Doesn’t our world need a little more kindness?  When our class was asked to brainstorm a few character traits about Emma, kindness was the most common theme throughout every response.  Students reported that Emma is always aware of others’ feelings.  Emma will offer to play with anyone at recess that seems lonely.  Another way Emma displays kindness is the way she talks about other students.  One student reported, “Emma shares only positive comments about others, she must hold the negative ones inside.” J As you can see, Emma’s kindness makes our classroom a better place.

“Sound the trumpets and blow the horns!  Emma Grimm is Helmwood’s Student of the Month!”  We hope our real life examples showcase how Emma is known as a role model, and for her generosity and kindness.  We hope you now understand why Emma was selected as Helmwood’s Student of the Month.  Our class has a challenge for you!  We challenge YOU to display all of these great characteristics so you can be like Emma.  “Emma motivates me to do better and try harder,” wrote Esharra!  Who knows, Emma may be the role model that inspires all of us to make the world to be a better place!

Morningside Elementary School                   Liberty Ratcliffe
Laura Beth Hayes, wrote these words about Liberty…

If I could describe Liberty Ratcliffe in one word, it would be “fighter.”  Liberty is strong, tough, and determined.  On many days, she has to fight through some battles that could make learning a challenge for her.  However, she faces these challenges head-on, and desires to prevail.

Liberty fights to do her best.  Her work has improved significantly this year, and it is mostly due to her positive attitude and willingness to succeed.

Liberty fights for her friendships.  She is a passionate friend, and is eager to show kindness and compassion to others, while also defending and strengthening her relationships.  She is often the student cleaning up after others or lending a hand to someone who needs help.

Liberty fights for what is right.  She is not afraid to voice her opinion and stand up for what she believes in.  She holds firm to her beliefs, and wants to be sure things are fair and just.

My life has been enriched by Liberty’s presence in my classroom  this year.  I look forward to watching her continue to fight as an Etown Panther, and ultimately, be a champion.

Ashley Jury wrote these words about Liberty…

Liberty is a student that has come such a long way since the beginning of the year.  There is not one day she does not give 110% on each task she is given.  She is eager to learn, and eager to improve and grow in her writing skills and in Social Studies.  Not only is she a student that gives each assignment her all, she can light up a room with her smile, laugh, and personality.  I truly enjoy having Liberty in class this year.

Brandon Thomson wrote these words…

Liberty has worked so hard in 4th grade math this year.  She is constantly surprising me when comes into class to show me what she knows how to do or what she has learned from the Math interventionist.  Math does not come easy for her, but instead of giving up Liberty works even harder until she better understands what is being asked of her.  Liberty is respectful in class, even when it is hard to do or others around her are not doing the right thing.  She is always well-mannered and takes class very seriously.

Sharon Billings wrote these words…

Liberty is one of those students that you want 24 of in your classroom.  She works extra hard to accomplish her goals.  Just because things are hard at times-she doesn’t give up and keeps working hard so that she will cover come whatever obstacle is in front of her.  In science class-I can put her with any student as a partner because she will be the partner that is trying to make sure that everything is done well and the partner that wants to figure it all out.  Liberty could easily say things are too hard and I just won’t try but that isn’t her attitude.  She digs in even harder and has a will to succeed.  All the 4th grade teachers are so proud of liberty.

Panther Academy                                          Ailla Hinton
Ailla is a sweet, kind, 5 year old in Mrs. Julia’s preschool classroom.  In the classroom, Ailla is a great friend.  She plays cooperatively with others and asks others to join her when they have no one with which to play.  She offers help to other students who are in need.  She always treats others with respect.  Ailla also encourages others especially the younger students in the classroom.  Last week, Ailla noticed that two of the 3 year olds were finally participating in music and she said, “Great job you guys!  You are doing music!”  and she gave them high fives.  She is also a leader.

Ailla is a very bright and hardworking student.  She can identify all of her upper case letters, most of her lower case letters and almost all of her sounds.  She is also beginning to sound out words.  Ailla can identify numbers 0-20 and she can connect quantities to numerals.  She loves to create and draw as well as write.  Some of Ailla’s favorite things at school are dramatic play, art center, and playing Frozen with her friends.  She is a wonderful young lady and we are proud to have her at Panther Academy.

Panther Place                                                 Jonathan Larimore
Jonathan is in Ms. Davis’ fifth grade class at Helmwood Heights Elementary School.  He has been attending Panther Place since he was in the first grade.  We have enjoyed every moment with Jonathan.  He has a wonderful sense of humor and I think he could entertain a large group for hours!  He loves to draw and is very creative.  He has the ability to create amazing pieces of artwork out of random everyday objects.  Jonathan is willing to participate in all activities.  He may politely let us know that he doesn’t like the activity but, he always tries his best and doesn’t complain.  This year, he was the most improved student in our archery program.  Another thing that I have observed about Jonathan is how very thoughtful he is.  He loves his mom and is not afraid to show her with a big hug every time she picks him up.  Ms. Pait, his Panther Place teacher, wrote, “Jonathan is a pleasure to have in my class at Panther Place.  He h as impeccable manners and is always willing to help.  Homework is not his favorite activity, but he puts forth 100% effort to complete it.  Students like Jonathan make teaching a pleasure!”

Valley View Education Center                       Erica Mercado
We are proud to have Erica Mercado as Valley View’s April Student of the Month.  Erica is a freshman at the View.  She loves to read and is interested in a career related to animals or acting.  Erica is very artistic, and always smiling.  Her teacher says, “Erica is a hardworker and always does what is asked.”  Another staff member notes that “Erica is very friendly and cooperative.”  Ericais a good role model for our younger students and gives her best each day.  We are excited to honor Erica as our student of the month.
