ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL                     MARY KATHERINE ELMORE

The EHS student of the month for December is Mary Katherine Elmore. Mary Katherine is the captain of the Etown Panther Cheerleading Squad. She started her cheerleading experience by competing with the All Stars Heartland Flyers through Heartland Gymnastics for 5 years, then transitioning to cheerleading at TK Stone for 2 years. She has cheered for EHS during her Junior and Senior years. Recently, the cheerleading team competed in the Bluegrass Challenge Extreme in which the team placed 3rd in the all girls, medium division, and earned a bid to compete in the national competition held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in February 2015. The cheerleading team also placed first in the KHSAA region competition in their division which qualified them for state competition which was held this past weekend, December 13th. Mary Katherine’s cheerleading coach, Mrs. Joella Nall, had these comments to share: “Mary Katherine is an absolute joy to coach. She is an excellent captain, leading her team with a positive attitude and high expectations. She always has a smile on her face, and she is an extremely hard worker. She will do whatever we ask of her, without question. She is a coach's dream!”

Along with the time she spends with cheerleading, Mary Katherine is also a member of the pep club and was a member of BETA club in previous years. Mary Katherine’s English 4 teacher, Mrs. Ellen Dodson, had these comments: “Mary Katherine's kindness, enthusiasm, and intelligence make her an absolute joy to know. Privileged to have Mary Katherine as an English student, I've appreciated her willingness to step into leadership roles, contribute creatively, and strive for excellent scores on assignments. Her confident, and, yet, unassuming nature will continue to impress and bless friends, instructors, coaches, and employers as she transitions from high school into college.”

In addition, Mary Katherine’s Family and Consumer Science teacher, Mrs. Christa Brangers, made these comments: “I have Mary Katherine for Child Services and Child Development. She is a sweet girl that always has a bright smile for everyone and a positive attitude about everything I ask her to do. I am most impressed by her work ethic. She will work diligently, sometimes even after most others have stopped, until every assignment is finished. For this reason, she always has high grades in my classes.”

Congratulations Mary Katherine for being selected as the December Student of the month and thank you for all of your contributions as an Etown Panther. Etown High School is truly honored to have you represent us.

T.K. STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL                             LUKE CASO

Luke is a dedicated student that cares about his grades and works to his fullest potential. Luke works well with all students and is always willing to help others who my be struggling in Project Lead the Way. He participates in extra-curricular activities and represents TK Stone in a manner that is respectful and honorable. He is a very polite and courteous young man. I am very excited to have Luke in Project Lead the Way this year. I congratulate him on being chosen for student of the month, it is a well deserved honor for him. Witten by Missy Mills

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY                 AIDAN DOZER

Aidan Dozer is a second grade student in Mrs. Watts’ class, but he is not just any ordinary student. Aidan is a wonderful example of what is meant by our Guidelines for Success as “Be your best” and his class is very proud he was chosen as the student of the month. Here are a few insights they wanted to share about his character.

Aidan is always considerate of others. He is kind and shows how much he cares. When a friend looks sad, he tries to find out what is wrong and help. Aidan is also patient. He does not rush others and takes turns when playing games. Those who play with him say he is a “good sport.” They say Aidan compliments others and invites all to participate. He always tries to make everyone feel like they belong.

Aidan has a friendly personality. He is always smiling and laughing. Aidan has a great sense of humor too. He often tells jokes to make people laugh. Although Aidan acts goofy sometimes, he makes good choices and encourages others to make good choices, as well. He is a good friend to have.

Aidan is a hard worker. He is smart and pays attention in class. Aidan is a very good math student and leader in groups. When things are difficult, he has the courage to ask questions and listens to learn. Aidan shows resiliency by trying hard each day and always doing his best.

As a teacher, Mrs. Watts agrees with her students as to Aidan’s excellent character. She feels Aidan is a role model for other students by putting forth a positive attitude everyday and always following the Guidelines for Success. Mrs. Watts says, “Aidan is a respectful young man who takes his work seriously. He accepts challenges without hesitation and strives to persevere. Aidan has a fun-loving spirit, as well, and makes the classroom a wonderful place to work and learn. I feel very blessed to have Aidan as a member of our classroom.”

Aidan is 8 years old. He lives with his older sister and brother, mom, and dad. Aidan enjoys many activities such as playing sports and video games, riding his bike, and jumping on the trampoline with his friends. His favorite place to visit is Disney World in Florida. He has a pet dog named Samson with which he likes to play fetch.

We want to thank and congratulate Aidan for being such a great role model for the students and staff at Helmwood Heights Elementary School. Written by Mrs. Watts and Aidans classmates

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL             ANNA SUMRALL

Anna Sumrall is a dedicated student who deserves to be recognized for her dedication to learning. When Anna Sumrall had to miss school on a Friday due to being ill; she requested that her mother give Anna her spelling test. Mrs. Sumrall took a picture and attached it to an e-mail for me to see. Of course, she spelled all of the words correctly even the ten bonus words! As if that were not enough, Anna took it upon herself, since we had been learning about animals in class to research dolphins on the internet and to write a report to give to the class upon returning to school the next week. Anna did an excellent job of researching and writing her report!

Anna is a very respectful, humble, and well rounded young lady! Anna enjoys spending time “bugging” her sister, “hanging out” with her brother, cooking with her father, spending time with her mother and playing with her Toy Poodle, Libby. Anna enjoys making crafts and reading. Anna enjoys playing soccer for the Elizabethtown Youth Soccer Association in the spring and fall. She also enjoys spending time involved in various church activities such as Vacation Bible School, The Great Pumpkin Chase, and Journey through Bethlehem.

Anna is a positive role model for other students. She is very attentive and remembers key details and vocabulary in content areas. Anna raises her hand and waits patiently to be called on -which is sometimes challenging in second grade! Anna always works well with partners and she has learned how to respectfully agree with or to respectfully disagree when working with a math partner. Anna has learned to persevere during challenging problems and she can explain her reasoning. Anna is wise enough to look over her own work and is able to make adjustments to her thinking when her partner’s solution makes sense. Anna enjoys science experiments, Project Lead the Way engineering design challenges, writing, social studies and reading. Anna gives her very best each and every moment of the day in class in every subject! For these reasons, I am happy to nominate Anna Sumrall as our second grade student of the month.

Respectfully submitted,Debbie Lewis Morningside Elementary School 2nd Grade Teacher

PANTHER ACADEMY                                         JOHN PETTY
John is such an exemplary student. He always gives 100% in the classroom as well as at home with his homework. His work is as close to flawless as could be. He works so hard at his handwriting being so neat in anything that he writes! John is one of the most caring and thoughtful children I have ever had the pleasure of teaching! We also love his spirit and eagerness in learning. Whenever we ask John to do something, he has the most positive attitude and willingness to help Mrs. Skees or myself out as well as other children. John is a top notch kiddo and I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to teach him this year. He is a true example of a student who meets all of our commitment to character words!

PANTHER PLACE                                             UNIQUE COKER

This is Unique’s third year at Panther Place. She is in Mrs. Bell’s third grade class at Helmwood Elementary School. Unique is so very sweet and gets along with all her classmates. She is respectful and well mannered. She is a hard worker putting a lot of effort into her homework and other projects. Math is her favorite subject. Mrs. Compton, her Panther Place teacher, told me that Unique never complains and is always willing to help even before being asked. We enjoy having Unique in our program and are proud to name her as Panther Place student of the month.

VALLEY VIEW EDUCATION CENTER                 GAVIN CAREY

We are proud to have Gavin Carey represent Valley View as our December Student of the Month.  Gavin is a 5th grader who has shown to be a very responsible young man.  He is a great role model for other students in the building.  His teacher says that Gavin has a positive attitude and always willing to help.  Recently Gavin volunteered to help sweep the bus for Mr. Brown.  He really seems to want to do the right thing.  One of his classmates shares that Gavin is very friendly and nice to everyone.  They like playing ball with him because he is really good at it.  Thank you Gavin for being such a great student!  We wish you the best as you transition back to Morningside.
