IV. RECOGNITION OF GUESTS AND OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
IV.A. Students of the Month
Rationale

Elizabethtown High School                                James Washington
The EHS student of the month for April is James Washington.  James is a hard working student in and out of the classroom.  Coach Billings say that "Ever since transferring to EHS his sophomore year, James has been a pleasure to be around.  James is a friend to all, and never seems to meet a stranger.  He can always be seen with a smile on his face and walking tall around campus.  His work ethic in athletics is what seperates him from his peers.  However, you would never know you are talking to one of the best athletes in the state, as James has always remained humble.  He has been a wonderful addition to the Panther family and I know in the future he will make Elizabethtown Proud."  Coach Mooney expresses much the same sentiment regarding James, saying, "I had James for Health and Physical Education last year.  He did a great job in my classes then.  He always had a great attitude and put forth tremendous effort.  James is one of the hardest working football players I have ever coached.  His effort and courage along with his mental and physical toughness were second to none as he represented Elizabethtown High School on the football field all last year while playing with an injured shoulder.  James was a team leader by example and voice and he was a player who believed deeply in the team concept."  In addition to his contribution on the football field, James was named state champion (take a good look at his gianormous ring!!!) in the 110 meter Hurdles in May 2013.
It is an honor and privilege to name James Washington as EHS Student of the Month for April.

T.K. Stone Middle School                                   Courtney Brangers
Courtney is and I'm sure will continue to be an excellent student.  She continually strives for improvement in not only her academic affairs but also her many extra-curricular activities.  As her teacher in Project Lead the Way I'm not surprised that she has been recognized as the student of the month.  She not only does what she is supposed to in class everyday, she helps her fellow students when they show signs of struggle.  Many students show potential and fail to capitalize, Courtney on the other hand knows what she should do and more importantly does it without complaint.  Congratulations Courtney, you deserve this recognition.

Helmwood Heights Elementary                          Rachel Shultz
Active listener, creative, confident, problem-solver, intelligent, friendly, loyal, and lots of personality!  These are just a few of the words we would use to describe Rachel Shultz, April's Helmwood Student of the Month!  We couldn't agree more that Rachel is more than deserving of this award.  Every day she shows these qualities in the classroom and school.  Here's how Rachel brightens each of our days and strives to be in her personal best.
"Rachel is very smart in all subjects and she works hard to study for tests.  She is also a good friend to everyone." - Jacob Moberly
"Rachel is not only smart, nice, and funny.  She's also athletic!" - Stanley Buckner
"Rachel is trustworthy and fun to be around.  She is also kind and pretty."- Shayna Kelly
"Rachel is a genius!  She is intelligent, hard-working, and kind to everyone." - Caleb Turner
"She is full of personality and is always determined to do what she needs to do."  Trinity Withers
"Rachel is extraordinary.  She is always there for me.  I know she will be my friend through it all."  Addison Williams
"Rachel is a determined, hard-working who challenges herself and asks questions to learn more.  By her example, she encourages us all to do our best and reach for the stars!" - Mrs. Davis
It is obvious to students and teachers as well that Rachel is a shining example of a good citizen, excellent student, and all around good friend in our classroom.  Congratulations, Rachel Shultz!  We are so proud for you to represent our school and classroom!

Morningside Elementary                                    Maddie Edlin
Maddie Edlin has been selected as Morningside's Student of the Month.  Maddie is a 3rd grader at Morningside and is a shining example of a model classroom citizen!  Each and every day she goes the extra mile to make sure her work is an example of the very best she can do.  Maddie takes pride in each and every task given to her and is a role model for others to follow in the classroom.  Not only is Maddie's classroom work exemplary, her contribution as a positive leader is a real asset to our school.  Maddie is there to help her fellow classmates and shows kindness and care on a daily basis.  Maddie can be counted on to always follow our school's Guidelines for Success on a DAILY basis.  Clearly, Maddie is an enormous asset to Morningside Elementary and we are very proud to nominate her as our Student of the Month!

Panther Academy                                               Jagger Mardis
Jagger is just an incredible kiddo!  He sets a wonderful example for all children, both the students in our classroom as well as the other classrooms.  He's friendly to everyone.  I especiallly remember an instance where we had been talking about rhythm in music and we had been clapping, stomping, and snapping(which is very hard at this age).  One day during centers, I saw him sitting with two little boys that he doesn't normally play with, teaching them how to snap.  The boys' eyes were glued to him.  Definitely a moment to melt a teachers heart!  I have to say that Jagger works hard to not only complete all of his work on time, but he takes great pride in the neatness and quality of his work.  He is so eager to please me and shows shows much maturity when he does not understand something, he will come to me and ask for help because he truly wants to learn and understand the concept.  Jagger is a true example of a student who loves learning and wants to learn!

Panther Place                                                        MaQuasia Evans
This is MaQuasia's third year at Panther Place.  She is in Mrs. Buckingham's 5th grade class at Morningside Elementary.  MaQuasia has maintained good grades in all this school year.  Something that I really admire about MaQuasia is her honesty.  Ms. Pait, her Panther Place teacher wrote the following, "I have enjoyed having MaQuasia in my class at Panther Place.  She is respectful and always willing to lend a hand to help.  She works hard to complete her homework.  She is a good friend to the other students.  I am ver proud of her."  MaQuasia has just blossomed this year and we love seeing her beautiful smilt!  We will miss her next year as she moves on to middle school.
