IV.B. Students of the Month
Rationale

STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

ELIZABETHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL                                RYAN HARRIS

Competitive, committed, and responsible - Ryan is an excellent role model for his peers.  He recognizes the importance of a college education and is determined to be successful, regardless of the task.  He is a highly decorated Varsity Golf member and a leader on the varsity basketball team.  Ryan has demonstrated the understanding that hard work does yield great reward and is able to balance his studies and athletics in a way that only a dedicated student-athlete could.  He has chosen a course of study that will enable him to continue his pattern of success, academically, at the collegiate level proving that he will work extremely hard and will be an asset to whichever academic community he chooses.

T.K.STONE MIDDLE SCHOOL                                    SARAH HINTON

In her own quiet, unassuming way Sarah Hinton makes sure that her responsibilities are taken care of.  Whether she is in the classroom, on the golf course, or in the dance studio, she works to the best of her ability to be successful.  I have seen her redo assignments and retake tests, if necessary,  to improve them much the same way that she practices putt after putt, drive after drive, and dance routine after dance routine.  She leads by example in her own quiet, unassuming way, typifying the Panther “tradition of excellence” wherever she is.  She is a pleasure to know.

HELMWOOD HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY                        JASLYN HAWKINS

Jaslyn Percell Hawkins is a true blessing in our classroom community.  As a teacher I am thankful to have Jaslyn as a student because she exemplifies what we, as caring adults, strive for each of our students to obtain.  One of the qualities I admire about Jaslyn is that she has an intrinsic desire to excel academically as well as on a personal level.  More importantly is how her peers view Jaslyn and as such she is a truly effective role model.  Listed below is a combination of comments her peers have shared about Jaslyn …

“Jaslyn is a bright, young lady and she deserves Student of the Month.Among other qualities, she always does what she is told by following directions the first time. She makes good choices, even when no one is looking – integrity. She follows the rules.”

“One thing about Jaslyn is that she is an honest girl. She never lies.If she talks in the restroom, she admits it to the teacher. Also, she is very respectful. For example, one day she dropped a piece of pizza. She didn’t leave it on the floor.Jaslyn took time to respectfully pick it up.

"Jaslyn shows responsibility because she never forgets her homework.  She also shows respectfulness because she does not talk back to people and she treats them nicely."

"Jaslyn is very confident and has a lot of courage.  Whe she doesn't know the answer to a question, she does not give up and whine about it.  She works on it until an answer is found.  Jaslyn makes herself speak up and participate in class.  She works through her fears while she presents projects."

"Another thing about Jaslyn is that she is a great friend to other people.  She is trustworthy.  You do not have to worry about her talking bad about you  or anyone else.  She is a great example for the little kids in our school.  She is wonderful to be around."

"Jasly has empathy.  If I tell her something I am worried about, she will tell me how sad she is that I feel bad.  I also do not have to think about her telling other people what I am worried about.  Additionally, if you ask her for help, she helps you without complaining."

"I hope Jaslyn can follow her dreams!"

MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL                        HUNTER SHARP

Hunter is the type of student every teacher hopes to have in the classroom. He is energetic, friendly, fun to be around, and best of all ……enthusiastic about learning!

The student citizenship qualities we all admire about Hunter are his leadership skills and his integrity. He is always willing to take the lead and guide learning tasks as he shows a sincere desire to help other students and his teachers. His work ethic is a model to other students as he challenges himself to go beyond grade level expectations. He is on a daily quest to find the best and most efficient way to tackle a task, especially in math.

At a young age Hunter has discovered how to be reflective and accept responsibility for his behaviors. He has, on more than one occasion, signed the classroom behavior book on his own….saying things like, “I need to sign the book too because I was a part of the too much, loud talking in our classroom.” This example of honesty shows the integrity that we each try to cultivate within ourselves and our children.

Some of Hunter’s school accomplishments for this year include……

Talent Pool with Ms. Lackey

Attending Ms. Crawford’s 3rd Grade Math for Enrichment Block

Daily Independent Enrichment -Technology Learning Program

Presenting an outstanding Show What You Know project with confidence as a speaker and respect as an audience member

Being recognized with the Paw Award for following MES Guidelines for Success

Earning Level 1 Behavior Reward for the first Nine Weeks of Panther Points

Hunter is an all- around great kid! He enjoys playing team sports and he is an actively involved with his church.  He hopes to be a future leader in our community.

MES is a better place because Mr. Hunter Sharp is a Panther!

PANTHER ACADEMY                                                    GABBY McGREGOR

Gabby McGregor is an excellent student who loves to show off her artistic abilities.  The other student in her class are always amazed by her drawings.  She is always thinking about others and willing to help anyway she can.  Even if it is letting another student borrow her crayon.  She is very kind hearted.  I have noticed several times she has seen someone playing alone on the playground.  On her own, she has went over and played with the student who was alone.  If she sees a student upset she will go over and give them a simple pat on the back or hug.  She is a model student who is eager to learn new things.  It is very sweet that on the weekends when she is at her grandparents she teaches them all the things she has learned at school.  She said, "I have to teach them everything because they don't go school."  Congratulations Gabby McGregor!

 PANTHER PLACE                                                        DREVOUN CAMPBELL

Drevoun is in 2nd grade at Helmwood Elementary. This is his second year at Panther Place.  He was nominated by Mrs. Williams who tells us that Drevoun is a model student.  He always finishes his homework and quietly reads on his own or asks before playing in the activity area.  She said that he is liked by all his peers and gets along with everyone.  Drevoun is very respectful and is always quick to obey.  His behavior is a good example for the other students.

Drevoun told me that he wants to do good in school and that he likes to do homework and study spelling words.  When not doing school work, he enjoys playing with his little sister and playing basketball.

I am happy to name Drevoun as Panther Place’s Student of the Month for October.
